*Ch 236: Darling Angels Revealed

Not wasting any time, he zipped us from there to our bedroom before an eye could blink.

After I recuperate from that sudden rush, I asked him, "What is it that you wanted to say?"

First, his sigh protracted, and then he said the least excited. "In the next few days, we are leaving for a masked ball. At this ball between enemies and allies, it will be packed full of vampires and vampiresses. It's a celebration to honor the peace after the two greatest world wars in our vampiric history."

"Wow, that sounds pretty major," I stated. "So the vampires that want me dead will be there?"

"That's a given, but my father claims we're forbidden to do any harm to the granted humans or human mates that will attend. We'll all be staying together under an Imperial Palace where the ball will be held," Kai told me and that was a lot to take in, on such short notice.

"So we only have three days to pack?" I asked to confirm this information.

"Yes, and buy you a Victorian gown and mask for the ball," Kai replies. "And me a matching suit with a mask."

Ticking silence lingered from me thinking about this, until I gleed. "Attending a ball sounds fun for the dress-up."

Blinking at me, Kai seemed rather surprised by my response and lopsided his head. "I'm glad to see you're exhilarated," he hesitantly stated.

"I mean, I love those gothic-styled gowns. Regardless, if most of these vampires and vampiresses want me dead. Maybe this will be fun," I giggled, being more optimistic, and Kai chuckled.

"I'm glad you're enthralled, and here I was worried you'd be scared," Kai gleamed, seemingly impressed by my onward enthusiasm.

"No, I already trust that you'd never let anything happen to me," I smiled, meaning what I said.

Then his eyes softly stare at me. It made my heart melt with such warmth from those capturing agate color eyes. I loved his natural eye color far better than his red eldritch sight.

In the bestowing romance, I went to kiss him fondly. Till his eyes narrowed in a blatant gaze at my stomach. Those beautiful eyes shone into this frightful red. He stepped forward and touched my belly.

"What is it?" I ask, concerned.

"I'm not picking up the same scent from our baby," Kai replied in this strong voice that was alerting.

"What are you saying?" I say bewildered. Until a thought ignited me to anger, so I shoved his hand off. "If you're indicating this baby isn't yours, I can assure you, you're the only one I've slept with!"

Kai cocked his head and stared at me like I was the crazy one. Yet he was the one to apply such nonsense.

"No, that isn't what I was saying," Kai rephrased in this frazzled voice as if I stunned him. "The baby is mine, but it's not the same scent I've been bonding with."

"Ok, what are you talking about?" I asked, but he didn't answer. Rather he stared with x-ray eyes at my belly.

Then he shook his head faintly and took out his phone saying. "You need to be examined."

"What?" I said, baffled, but he didn't talk to me from speaking to Dr. Riley over the phone. He told her I needed an ultrasound on the double. Well, my wording, not his. Once he ended the call, I got my coat, and we left for the gynecologist's office.

In the waiting room, she was there expecting us.

"Let's head back," she said, seeming frenetic like Kai. Which had me worried because they wouldn't say what was going on. Once in the room, I lay on the table bed and Dr. Riley did her usual preparations. The image was projected on the tv screen, and we saw our baby.

Fourteen weeks pregnant, the baby was forming into a well-developed being. It makes you wonder how anyone can abort their unborn child at this stage. Medical issues, ****, or not, I could never do it.

As I awed at the screen, Dr. Riley adjusted the image for a better look at the whole baby rather than being close up. That's when we saw the baby had an extra whole arm and a hand rising from behind it.

"Oh no! My baby is going to be a blood-sucking mutant!" I said in panic and overly emotional.

Kai gave a happy chuckle and took my hand to calm me. From the screen, he took his attention to me.

"No, honey, we're having twins," Kai shared, being ebullient.

"Twins," I repeated in shock. Not only did I have one vamp baby, but now I have two. Oh my! I was overwhelmed as Dr. Riley moved her hand around for the image to show three round heads.

"Their three-headed Siamese mutant twins!" I cried out, losing my senses and they both glanced at me like I lost my mind. Which yes, I likely did.

Rather gently, Dr. Riley's voice chimed in my ears. "It's not twins or deformed Siamese twins. You're carrying perfectly developed triplets!"

Her excited voice nearly made me faint.

Overwhelmed was putting it lightly for how I felt right now. Time froze in one spot to watch Dr. Riley found a perfect overhead view of all three babies' faces. Distinctively you could see the shadows of their mouths moving. The shadows of their round eyes were visible and their tiny noses were too adorable. Love and anxiety poured through my heart for each baby. There was no favoritism between the three. Only pure undeniable love is what I felt.

Then I moved my neck toward Kai, beaming with the same heartwarming expression I had. Our eyesight met and he smiled lovingly at me as if I gave him everything in the world to bear his three offspring.

"I'm going to kill you and Jack for giving me all those fertility pills," I falsely threatened. Kai and Dr. Riley chuckled at me.

He kissed my lips and whispered, "I can handle that."

"Are you certain there are only three, not four or six?" I asked Dr. Riley, and she decreased the image and we viewed only three vamp babies moving about like jiggling jellyfish.

"I'm certain it's only triplets. Nothing more, nothing less," she warmly smiled at me.

Now it made sense as to why my mom said, my angels. The only thing that doesn't make sense is who my mother was referring to when she said, "Don't trust them." Don't trust who, the question is?
