Marcy sat in the front passenger seat in silence for the longest time while Max drove. Occasionally Max would send Marcy a worried glance wonder if she was okay. And Marcy would check from time to time to make sure that Dexter was still fallowing close behind them. After about an hour of silence max finally spoke " are you gonna be okay?" Marcy turned her head slowly to stare at her for a moment collecting her thoughts. The look she gave max only made her more anxious. "Marcy!!" "...do I look okay Max? Ian just walked me through a mass grave of men who were there to kill us. I'm being hunted and I'm not a wolf or werewolf or whatever. But I'm protected as Ian would say. Your brother still hasn't spoke to me and I need fucking answers, like yesterday Max! saying this is a lot to process is a huge understatement" Max sighs at Marcys answer knowing she's right . The last couple of days have been stressful enough for her and the other members of the pack, but up until the last few days Marcy was just a normal girl with a normal life and Max knew that since Ian didn't have the time to give her any of the answers that she deserved then Max would have to do her best to fill in the blanks for her friend.
"Okay I will do my best to tell you about the curse if you think it will help.... So the legend is our curse started about three hundred years ago. There was a witch being burnt at the steak by some towns people because she had apparently been snatching the towns children.were cursed for our part in her death apparently. She cursed us to not be able to control the change, to not have more than two children, to not be able to love more than one mate. We are forced to change once a month for our entire adult life." Max pauses to make sure Marcy is still listening and absorbing any of the information she is throwing at her. "So over the years the males have been able to control the change with more and more practice, females still can't." Marcy nods "and the reason Ian doesn't want me?" Max wore her defeat on her face, she knew this was a conversation for Ian to have but Marcy deserved answers now. "Like I said we can only have one mate. If you take Ian he can never be with anyone else and it will mark you as his mate, mutating you, so you can produce pups to keep the curse alive. Like I said it comes with a ceremony, kind of like a wedding showing a commitment to both Ian and the pack since we only have one chance at love and a family." Marcy's eyes wide taking in the answers that Marcy had been looking for. Though she had waited for these answers it didn't make it any easier to swallow. "Okay, so you were cursed by a witch you shift into wolves every once in a while when the moon is full or when needed if you are a man. And you mate for life in hopes to have a small family and spend most of your life running from people who want to hunt you simply because some witch some years ago cursed your families? Is that about right?" "Yes that about sums it up Marcy. But you have to understand they hunt us for a reason. Though our pack is safe most packs still don't have control when they shift they are still dangerous to families and livestock and have been hunted for hundreds of years because of it. We were simply lucky that we evolved and adapted.' " so your pack isn't dangerous but other packs are because they haven't adapted?" "Yes!" Max sighs as they pull onto a dirt road. "We're here, do you have any more questions?" Max glances at Marcy as she puts the car in park. Marcy lifts her head as if coming out of a deep concentration to look back at Max "that's it for now, but please keep being honest with me. Because weather Ian wants it or not I am a part of this world now." Max nods her head and Dexter pulls into the driveway behind them.
The girls get out of the car and Dexter ushers several men out of the car. Dextert hands the keys to one of them says something to them and they pull back out of the driveway. "Is there a problem" Marcy asks looking at the now vanishing van. " No, just sent him to get some necessities for you girls that I know are not in the house. Seeing as how we didn't have time to pack" he responded to Marcy and looks at Max with a smile before shifting and catching up the the other wolves who appeared to be posting up to watch the cabin that Marcy and Max now stood alone in front of. "Come on, let's go inside they will be a while and I'm sure you and I both could use some sleep." Max says locking her arm into Marcy's and taking her inside.
