Chapter 15 - what did you do?

When Carlos arrived home that day, the maid informed him that his wife had been in his daughter's room for quite a long time and only came out of there for some snacks.

A smile crept on his face, but he shook it off, fearing that his conjecture might be wrong.

Lara hadn't accepted Kiera all these years, no matter how hard he tried; the best they could do was for the two to stay out of each other's way.

Keeping this in mind, he climbed up the stairs and headed to Lara's room; he arrived at the doorway just in time to see Kiera faint.

Anger surged and he rushed to catch his wife and then stared daggers at Lara.

"What did you do?" He asked, shouting at Lara in the process.

Lara was taken aback and was frozen still for a few moments before coming to.

After processing what fully happened just now, she felt wronged yet decided to follow her father.

Carlos brought his wife to their bed, While trying to see her properly, she noticed Lara standing at the door and scolded her to get out.

He saw his daughter's eyes filled with unshed tears and hardened his heart, focusing on his unconscious wife.

He didn't want to scold Lara, but for the past few years, she had intentionally harmed Kiera, thrice of which had landed Kiera at the hospital.

He was about to move to get his phone when Kiera stirred, he looked down at her and saw her eyes flutter open.

"Hon, I just had a very good dream," she said and burst into tears. Already used to her bursting into tears easily he carefully coaxed her until she calmed down.

Who told him to rob the cradle whilst looking for a wife, and now he was stuck in this position.

"What was this dream about?" He asked softly and pressed kisses on her eyes earning a smile from her.

"Lara let me do hair and makeup and she ….. she…." She started hicupping and Carlos passed her a cup of water.

She immediately gulped down the water and continued with her story.

"She even hugged me and apologized" she finally continued and then burst into more tears.

"If…. If…. Only….." she started and stopped when she noticed that her nails were now painted red. Didn't Lara paint her nails after she had done her hair?

"Ha!" Kiera immediately screamed out and scared Carlos. The old man held his hand on his chest and counted his heartbeats.

Before he could ask what had happened, Kiera had already jumped out of bed and was running outside.

He slowly got up and gracefully followed Kiera out only to see her entering Lara's room.

Lara was seated on her vanity lost in thought, her earlier excited mood all washed away by her father.

Kiera stood at the door and saw the earlier lively Lara all shriveled up.

"That is no way to look when waiting for a date," Kiera teased from outside when she saw her looking like that.

"Are you okay?" Lara asked and immediately rushed towards Kiera standing at the door.

"I'm fine, I was just… shocked?!" She replied still not sure if Lara had really apologized earlier or she had just imagined it.

Hearing this, Lara knew that Kiera was still in denial about her earlier actions.

To be honest, Kiera was a good wife and a qualified mother; it was only her prejudice that had left her hating this amazing woman before her.

"Come in," Lara said and closed the door behind her; she saw her father looking at her room from a distance and pretended not to see him.

Carlos stood at a distance, looking at the interaction between the two stupified; then he remembered what his wife had said when she first woke up and began being a smart person and knowing his wife well.

He concluded that Kiera had probably fainted from the shock of Lara's 360-degree change.

Then that means, that he had wronged his daughter. He walked off into his room to freshen up and decided to just ask his wife what to do when they were alone later.

Inside the room, Lara had, in the sincerest way possible, apologized to Kiera for her behavior in the past and asked that they start a new one.

Kiera also apologized for any wrong she might have done Lara and soon they were both a crying mess.

The two women sat on the carpeted floor and cried their eyes out.

Almost an hour later, they both calmed down and then remembered that Lara had a date which was in 30 minutes.

Kiera retouched Lara's hair and makeup, but this time added a light layer of lightener to cover her swollen eyes.

She then helped Lara into her dress and heels and urged her to go downstairs to wait.

Lara was halfway to the door when she remembered the arm ring, she then took it from the box and carefully wore it on her right arm.

Soon, both of them were in the living room waiting. Lara looked at the clock and saw that it was exactly 7, and immediately she heard the sound of the main doors opening.

She turned around to see her fiancé at the door, and unconsciously, a smile blosomed on her face.

She got up to face Lucas, and seeing the smile tugging at his lips, she knew that this man was already hooked on her.

Lucas and Lara said a quick goodbye to Kiera and Carlos who had entered the living room at some time.

When they exited the house, Lara saw a black Maybach packed before them.

Lucas escorted Lara to the car and opened the front passenger seat for her.

"We wouldn't want someone to infringe on our date now, isn't that so?" He whispered in her ears and later closed the door when she was finally seated.

He walked around the car, entered the driver's side,e and then drove off.

Seated in the car, Lara noticed that her heart felt lighter, and she was in the best mood since she returned.

Who knew all she needed was to have her heart-to-heart with Kiera, and things would be.

Seeing Lara distracted but with a happy smile on her face, Lucas used his free hand to hold her hand nearest to him and kissed it.

This action brought Lara to the present, and he turned to look at the man beside her only to see him also glancing at her for a second and focused on his driving.

"Lara, are you ready for the night you'll never forget?"
