The value of a hero

This is a story about Doryoku Suzuki, a kid whose powerful and uncontrollable quirk gave him many problems throughout his life, and who unlike everyone else, his only dream and goal is to help his mother instead of being a hero. —The story mostly takes place at the same time as when Aizawa was studying at the U.A. —Bnha and the image on the cover don't belong to me obviously. —Any advice to improve the writing is welcome.

Internships with Last laser: Part 6

Doryoku sat calmly in the center of the living room with his mask in his right hand, or so it seemed.

While that spot was the easiest to see from multiple directions, that made it the best spot to keep watch from all angles as well.

Doryoku was mindful of the two windows on either side of him, the window in the kitchen that was easily seen from the living room, and most of all, the exit to escape.

Was that a cowardly thought? He concluded that yes, although it was a bit complex not to be a coward when you had all the possible misfortunes in mind and with total constancy of them.

The plan was simple, if someone entered with murderous intentions he can run infinitely, something very simple but effective and moldable to the situation, it should be noted that it is the best thing he came up with.

Doryoku could tell instantly from sitting there that the informants and their gazes disappeared, leaving only an eerie emptiness, which only made him more tense and alert.

The night was very quiet, and the only thing easy to hear was the wind and a cricket, which was moving very suspiciously according to Doryoku.

'Come on, calm down a bit, if you don't you can't think clearly' thought Doryoku quite nervously and taking deep breaths to try to calm down.

He shouldn't lower his guard, but overthinking wasn't an option either, he should stay calm... If only that were possible.

Doryoku took several more breaths to try to calm down, and there was a small moment where he at least was able to calm down a bit, which didn't last long as he thought of something he had forgotten due to nervousness.

'The backpack' thought Doryoku with blank eyes and realizing his simple but fatal mistake.

Doryoku looked in the direction of the kitchen and it looked very intimidating, it was a certain death zone, at least based on his current situation.

The most logical thing was to just let that backpack die, there was really nothing that he couldn't recover in it.

The point was that... That was his favorite backpack, one that despite being all fixed with threads is also one that always accompanied him, and that was enough to at least try.

Doryoku slowly got up from his seat and walked silently through the living room to get to the kitchen, something that was not very complex for him really.

He was alert and above all he was very careful with the window, so at this moment any movement would make him alert as if he were a cat.

After a couple of heavy strides that seemed like forever and reaching the kitchen, Doryoku walked over to his backpack and heaved a small sigh of relief when he touched it, as if it was going to explode or something.

This one took the backpack and walked towards the living room again with it and with total caution, until...

*Crackkkkk!!!*

Suddenly, the wall behind Doryoku which was the main entrance was destroyed with a sudden blow, causing Doryoku's body to go completely tense and into a position of absolute alertness, as he threw his backpack into the living room to at least leave it out of direct danger.

A large amount of dust was generated due to the massive destruction of the home, and when the dust stopped bothering Doryoku's eyes, he could see a man in his 20s and 30s, quite overweight, poorly dressed on purpose, and bald practically.

"Hey senior, shouldn't we have looked for more information before entering?" Said another somewhat confused voice, this time that of a young man with very light and dry gray hair, in addition to having a clear dehydration and a bottle of water in his hand, dressed in quite damaged and deteriorated clothing.

"No need, we're not here for multiple targets or one too heavy" Said the overweight man calmly as the young man nodded and they both turned their attention to Doryoku, waiting for some attack or similar.

"This is the test subject? He seems quite uptight" The dry haired youth said with a confident smile as Doryoku instantly noted that he was almost his own age.

"That's right, although you already made a mistake and you underestimate him, we still don't know what he can do" said the man with a warning tone while the young man had some nerves due to this.

Doryoku was able to analyze the situation and concluded that at least they weren't trying to kill him, but that of 'test subject' didn't sound good either.

He took a deep breath, relaxed his posture a bit and decided to try to talk first even without putting on his mask to express himself better.

"Excuse me, could you explain to me why you're doing this?" Doryoku asked quite cordially, greatly confusing both villains.

"What the hell is wrong with you, we are villains, where are the screams and accumulated irrational hatred?" said the dry-haired young man with quite a bit of confusion due to the strange attitude of the test subject.

"I'm not good when we talk about irrational things, I'm sorry" Doryoku said still cordially making the dry-haired young man look even more confused.

"Hey kid, what are you looking to know?" said the overweight man trying to gauge the situation subtly.

"I would like to know why you are here, and if we can solve this without fighting" Doryoku said with a serious attitude and still very alert for any movement.

"I see... Well, it turns out that we came here to test this rookie's abilities, and unfortunately for you, you are a very good test subject" said the man quite calmly, but answering the question and making Doryoku have several other doubts.

"The fact that you have listened to us despite everything makes you strange, and for that reason I will at least tell you our names of villains" said the man with enough seriousness and making the atmosphere no longer confusing, but purely aggressive.

"The boy calls himself Kanbatsu despite being provisional according to him, and I am Big Stout, despite your good intentions, no real villain lets his ideals or decisions be bent by pretty words" said Big Stout with great seriousness and determination as Kanbatsu smiled excitedly.

Big Stout's body began to writhe and shift, turning his fat into muscle and concentrating into one giant arm of pure muscle on his right arm.

Big Stout threw said punch at Doryoku and Doryoku absorbed it completely with his left hand, taking Big Stout a bit by surprise.

Doryoku was about to make a move, but he realized a terrible problem.

'Where is the other one?' Doryoku thought with some tension as he didn't see Kanbatsu in his position.

And just at that moment he felt the hostile presence of someone next to him, so he suddenly dodged to his left side and only received a light touch from Kanbatsu's palm on his face, which he quickly passed by then from this.

And without giving even a second to breathe, Big Stout launched another blow at Doryoku, this time pushing him out of the house due to being caught off guard.

"Subject to tests and comparisons... apparently the old man never changed, any real experience for him is worth much more than any common training" said Last laser shaking his head after hearing the words of the man with earth-colored hair.

"Apparently you know what you're talking about, but I'm sick of talking nonsense, it's time for a little warm-up" said the man with earth-colored hair as he seemed to stretch his body expectantly.

But a fleeting moment later, he had to dodge a swift Last laser kick that went straight for his stomach, then cautiously backed away a bit.

"Pfff, you seem very desperate, huh Laser? Don't tell me you fear for your disciple" said the man who seemed to be trying psychological plays, although now he was completely alert and serious.

"I just remembered something that really worries me more, so the best thing would be to send you to the Tartarus directly" Last laser said with great seriousness while his eyes lit up slightly and his hair shone, in what seemed to be his quirk.

"Tch, typical of heroes, the good guy always wins, right?" the man with earth-colored hair said with considerable annoyance and ready for combat.

"Don't get me wrong, but it's a reality that unless your rookie is a genius in a million or has some 40+ year old and experienced partner, there's no way that kid could be in any real danger" Last laser said quite confidently as his hair seemed to absorb the little light than was around him.

"Well, there's nothing more to say, prepare for the battle against one of the 5 elements, Last laser" said the man with earth-colored hair as the ground around him cracked slightly.

*Crackkkkkkkkkk!!!!!*

Doryoku went through the wall and instantly absorbed the full impact around him, landing on his feet about ten meters from the hearth and a little sore.

'Ugh, going through a wall doesn't just involve kinetic energy' Doryoku thought with a bit of pain, after all he did break the wall with his back and his left hand trembled slightly due to the force of the impact.

In that little exchange Doryoku realized many things, like Big Stout's quirk, which could transform body fat into muscles and control them, although that didn't help him much.

Kanbatsu was too agile like Oboro or Aizawa to a lesser extent, though he wasn't that exaggerated so it must be a post-quirk requirement.

Big Stout had enhanced stamina probably, the very idea of the pain of transforming the body directly was horrible and it could only be attributed to his quirk's innate stamina and his body showing no expression when doing so.

'What will Kanbatsu's quirk be?' Doryoku thought quickly and not entirely sure as he kept an eye out for any changes and put on his mask.

When placing it, he felt a kind of scratch and later pain on his right cheek, and when he passed his hand he realized that it was very dry, so much so that it hurt a lot.

He also noticed that he was thirsty, so he instantly concluded that the quirk was about dryness, and the very idea that a simple touch would have such an effect on him was terrible.

'The best thing would be to start running, I never wanted to fight but an emitter of that level makes me completely sure of what is best' thought Doryoku with his mask on although it hurt a little and thinking of some escape route.

*Crash*

A slight sound was heard at that moment, it was something like glass breaking into thousands of pieces, which made Doryoku remember something.

At that moment Doryoku knew exactly what it was, so even though the villains were already visible and leaving the hearth, he quickly moved in the direction of the noise.

Big Stout and Kanbatsu prepared for a direct battle, but neither expected Doryoku to stop about 5 meters from them to search through the rubble, so they were left a little confused again.

Doryoku quickly searched and found that the well-constructed little glass box was just pieces, nothing more.

Still, the little hummingbird inside had survived because of it, so Doryoku tried to take it but...

'I can't, what if I destroy it? I don't want to finish off what little is left' Doryoku thought as his body trembled slightly due to indecision.

"You really are very strange, I'm beginning to think that you are not as much as we thought" said Big Stout shaking his head noticing the boy's indecision and problems.

Big Stout deformed his body fat back into muscle and formed a large hand to attack Doryoku again.

This realized instantly, and given the indecision of the moment, he decided to do a damn irrational stupidity.

Doryoku took the little hummingbird and covered it with both hands, then used his kinetic body to do a big jump backwards avoiding the punch.

*Crackkkkkkkkk!!*

This caused a large crater in the ground, plus Doryoku landed about 15 meters from his previous spot in a nervous sweat.

"Huh? At least you have great mobility it seems, let's see what else you can do" said Big Stout returning to his overweight form with some expectation.

Doryoku kept his hands closed, he didn't even want to know if the hummingbird was okay or not, the best thing was to just ignore it as much as possible and run away.

Kanbatsu took advantage of the moment to quickly approach again, to which Doryoku stomped hard causing a slight earthquake and making him lose his balance, before running south.

"Hey rookie, come here we have to catch up" said Big Stout deforming his body again and making his legs, back and the rest of his body pure muscle beyond what is humanly possible.

Kanbatsu held on to his back apparently without hurting him and then he ran at a great speed following Doryoku, much more than he could run.

Novice Author's Diary {Note 4}

I imagine that each author writes differently, for example I always seek to get closer to reality in my stories despite being fiction, I wonder if there is someone who, despite only handling fiction, can form sensations only with fictional feelings, do you know? Is it possible to empathize with concepts other than the already known feelings? That's a pretty interesting question actually.
