Two lives are worth more than one

Jacob saw Usagi's face and, realizing she wasn't gravely injured, they embraced, silently congratulating each other for surviving.

"Was it challenging?" Usagi asked.

"Not as much as the other games we've been through, but half of the players died, for sure," Usagi replied, distancing herself from Jacob.

"Does anyone know a doctor?" Arisu approached Jacob, who was gathering the bullets he obtained from the hunter, along with the most important item: his machete.

"Are you injured?" Usagi looked at the two individuals, who seemed to be in perfect condition.

"No, our friend needs a doctor," Karube said, feeling uncomfortable addressing Jacob.

Jacob understood that this had to happen in their story. He hadn't been involved in the original plot, and since they would spend a few days in this world, one of their friends would have to die.

Their deaths were not Jacob's concern, but he didn't mind helping them and seeing what would happen. He decided to lend them a hand.

"What kind of injury does your friend have?" Jacob glanced at them and walked towards the other hunter.

"It's a burn wound, nothing internal," Arisu said, following closely behind Jacob.

"Where is it located?" Jacob suddenly stopped; his answer would determine whether their friend would live or die.

"In the leg." Karube pointed out the detail.

"Then your friend is on the brink of death," Jacob said in a flat tone.

"What did you say?" Karube grabbed Jacob's clothing and forcefully pushed him against the wall.

"No, Usagi!" Jacob stopped Usagi, who was about to attack, and said, "The healing time for a third-degree burn can vary depending on various factors, such as the size and location of the wound, the overall health of the individual, and proper care."

"But where do you think we can find medical help in this place?" Karube looked around and was repeatedly reminded of the harsh reality.

"In general, third-degree burns take longer to heal compared to lower-grade burns. It can take several weeks or even months for the wound to fully heal, and follow-up visits with a doctor may be required to ensure proper healing."

Jacob looked at Karube and said, "Nobody, including me, has that much time, so unless it's a physical or betrayal trial, your friend can be saved."

"Damn it!" Karube let go of Jacob and cursed aloud.

"Is there any way to identify the type of game?" Arisu asked this question, longing for an answer, but he was deceiving himself.

"No, there is no apparent method to discover the game before entering the location. A small place could contain a bomb capable of destroying the entire building, while a large location could host brutal physical trials." Jacob stored the magazines of the new weapon he had acquired and said, "I can give you some medication, but your friend's injury is too severe."

"Thank you for that..." Arisu became deeply depressed, realizing that his friend had to keep playing to stay alive.

As they walked towards the exit, Jacob saw Aguni and, after approaching him, he said, "I suppose you know the meeting place. You can go there and be one of my trusted friends."

"Of course, I'll go, but along the way, I'll make some stops to keep playing," Jacob said, putting his hand in his pocket and taking out the 8 of clubs and 9 of spades cards. "You can take these cards and give them to your friend. Hopefully, they'll secure him a reserved room in their place."

"He will have it," Aguni nodded, then walked away with some people who seemed to be his allies.

"I'll give you what you need." Jacob signaled Karube and Arisu to follow him to where he had hidden his car.

Both of them followed without saying a word and were surprised when they saw a functional car. Did they actually have a working car?

"It took Usagi and me a lot of effort to make this car functional, but it's easy as long as we get the engine running. The batteries were drained, and most of the gasoline lost its quality." Jacob opened the trunk and took out a small red backpack.

He was doing this out of kindness since he wasn't really interested in saving anyone. Due to that very thought, he didn't give Arisu a special medication that could help heal the injuries of their friend.

"Here are medications of all kinds; something might help your friend," Arisu held the backpack and watched as Usagi silently walked towards the passenger seat.

After opening the driver's door, Jacob reminded them, "It's not reliable, but avoid large gaming locations as the trials there are complicated. If we're lucky, we'll see each other tomorrow."

"Thank you for the medicine and the advice; we really appreciate it," Karube said with a somewhat depressed expression.

"I hope you can save your friend, but remember, two lives are better than one."

After that, Jacob started the car's engine and quickly drove away from the place. On the way, Usagi pointed out, "They're good people, but they won't be able to save their friend."

"He has severe injuries, so their friend will have to make the decision to sacrifice himself so his friends can live. That's how it is in this place." Jacob didn't know how many times he and Usagi could get injured, so the four advanced medication pills needed to be reserved for them.

This time was an easy trial, but Jacob couldn't say the same about a level 10 difficulty one. Such trials could possibly end his life. However, there must be a way out for every trial.
