CHAP 37: Power Plant

I decided clearing the whole building would be an good idea, after assessing those zombies, it seems they're less durable than the ones i killed in Kansai. Maybe an different virus? Research is needed. Anyways, killing the zombies in the other floors was easy, and let me collect more resources, most of the things were untouched, only some were ran over or stepped on. Some of the zombies didn't seem to be presenting signs of decay, which would mean the infection was recent, or that this virus didn't make the body necrose, but the mental faculties were clearly affected, the zombies on the outside were mutilated, so maybe the sun made them rot? These strange facts made me think that the Game didn't make this "dungeon", but used an existing world as training grounds.

I threw the bodies in the shaft, closed all the elevator doors with tape, emptied an can of gasoline inside, took an match out of my pocket (the Game reincarnated me with the things i had in my clothes, thankfully, it even refilled my flask) and set fire on them, the smell wasn't nice, but seeing things burn always had an special place in my heart. With the building cleared of enemies, i used some of the furniture to reinforce the barrier to the last floor, opened the windows on the penultimate and last floors to let the smoke out, the fire inside the shaft wouldn't spread because it was coated with steel on the inside. I wasn't sure the bodies's smell would attract the zombies, so it was better safe than sorry.

I had scouted the city from the last floor of the edifice to find points of interest, and saw what seemed to be an hospital, there was an power plant as well, the cooling towers indicated it was an thermal one, i couldn't see what it was powered by from here, but i hope it isn't an nuclear one, since that would mean no one was maintaining it, so it could explode at any time. Considering the risks, i headed to the power plant, not only to certify it wasn't going to kill me and everything else on this city, but because it could have some good resources as well.

The trip to it was composed of sneaking past the giant groups of zombies, so what was an 20 minute walk ended up being one of an whole hour. The outer grounds of the power plant were filled with zombies, and they were all trying to enter the building, something inside, whatever it was, attracted them.

'System, am i being affected by radioactivity?'

If i am to assume something, this means this is an thermonuclear power station, which is the worst-case scenario, and the amount of zombies here only worsens this situation. I entered the station through an hole in the metal grating, i tried sneaking past the zombies, even while knowing that hadn't worked in the past, i'm not sure how, but those thing have an way of detecting me even without visual contact, the fact they are attracted to this power plant is interesting, are they attracted to energy? If so, that's why the bodies i found were bitten mostly in the head.

I used my vectors to rip apart the zombies blocking the entrance to the plant, and tried opening it, the door was blocked from the inside, but it was nothing an bit of brute force couldn't manage. The facility had clearly seen better days, the walls had been heavily scratched, i hadn't seen the zombies so clearly destroying inanimate things, i would call it desperation, but i doubt those things can have emotions. Maybe the radiation mutated some of them?

The power plant was in an emergency lockdown state, so i hope the reactor is stable. My current objective was reaching the control room, so i followed the signs, the way wasn't blocked, probably so that the people working here wouldn't have to stay more than necessary, the closer i was, the more scratches there were and the more deep they went, when i arrived at the control room, the door was busted open, as was the lead plates protecting the insides of the room, looking through it, i realized i was fucked, the reactor had melted, and there were bunches of masses of flesh, which surrounded what remained of the reactor, "digesting" it, are the zombies metamorphosing? Whatever it is, destroying it as fast as possible is essential, but the problem is how. Something that survives what is basically an nuclear bomb isn't easily killable.

So i must choose whether i want to die by radiation or by what is inside what i assume is an cocoon of something which survives pure radiation. So either being fucked or being fucked. After some consideration, i passed through the hole on the lead plate.

'System, countdown 1 minute from now.'

An timer appeared on the upper left of my vision. I approached the cocoon and started ripping it apart with the vectors, saw an shape in the middle, and rapidly shot its head, after 30 rounds in it's head, i did the same with another, and another, and another, and another, and another, i'm not sure how much there were, but i knew my time was almost up, so i ran back and exited the reactor room, picked up the blowtorch lying on the ground and welded the fallen door on the hole, then went outside and welded the gate of the facility. I felt an metallic taste, so i ran back to the apartment and threw caution out, ripping apart every zombie in my way, fortunately there was no big horde on my way back.
