The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

Lesser Rider Bond

Wait. Didn't I get a notification earlier. System repeat notification.

Ally Ethan bond has successfully evolved to Lesser Rider Bond level 1. Ally Ethan can now borrow 1 of the users stats.

What do you mean he can borrow one of my stats? I asked in a panic. Forgetting that the system didn't respond unless asked it first. I shook my head once I realized my blunder. System what do you mean he can borrow one of my stats?

Ally Ethan can borrow one of users stats for ten seconds.

Strength 41

Agility 41

Stamina 43

Instinct 20

Damage Resistance 42

Mana 220/220 (Ally Ethan is unable to borrow this stat)

He can literally borrow one of my stats!!! That's insane. System how does he use it? Should I tell him? Can he activate it accidentally?

Multiple queries.

Processing....

Unknown different bonded have different requirements to activate lesser rider bond ability.

Informing ally Ethan is best coarse of action due to severe exhaustion felt after use of skill.

Accidental activation is unlikely, but possible if ally Ethan is in strong emotional state.

Ethan had pretty good control of most of his emotions, but his fear might become a problem. He was pretty much constantly in fear so I didn't really know what to do with that. His constant fear probably desensitized him to it to a certain degree so I probably didn't have to worry to much. Question was, how would Savannah react to such a skill once the bond leveled up enough?

She could probably borrow my mana capacity as well, and since I had five times as much mana as her I could see that this would probably be a big motivating factor for her. Also we could rub our progress in her face with a little showing off. Not just yet though. Ethan would exhaust himself if he used his skill right now. I wondered how much leveling up he would need before he was able to use the skill freely.

It had to be a lot like when I used my physical camouflage skill when I first got it. Just activating it was enough to knock me out for most of the day. My wings twitched as I jumped past Ethan, and into the air. I circled around him two or three times before coming back down. I could fly easily in here but out in the real world it was much more difficult.

Here the wind was all mine to control, and the environment changed to what I wanted. Even the glacial design of my inner world was my choice. The only thing I couldn't control about my inner world was the fact that it was made of water, wind, and lightning. What would it look like if I got all the elements? I wondered to myself.

My wings twitched as I settled back down.

"You want to go up with me?" I spoke hesitantly.

I didn't want to be just some steed for him to ride, but at the same time I would have to get used to the idea of letting my bonded ride me. Sooner or later I may need to carry them so it would be better for them to know how to handle themselves.

"Hell yeah," Ethan pumped his fist in the air excitedly.

"This won't be exactly like it is in the real world," I leaned down for him to get on, "If you fall off here you won't die."

"Flying is on my bucket list," Ethan climbed up.

Adjusting himself so he was sitting in the gap between my spines. I waited patiently for him to settle as I asked the system to try its best to knock him off. Even if I couldn't learn how to fly properly when my inner world adjusted to me instinctually. I launched myself into the sky, and immediately started speeding up. He couldn't get hurt in here, so I might as well give him some hell.

It would be fun. I just tried to go as fast as possible to start with. Ethan clung to me like his life depended on it. I enjoyed the adrenaline rush he got from the speed as well as the giddy feeling of joy from being up in the air. Fear, and that giddy joy feeling of joy fought for dominance within his mind.

"Having fun yet?" I chuckled as I dove towards the water below us.

My entire body was filled with energy. In here I always had plenty of energy. I guess it was because I wasn't actually using any energy in here. Thinking didn't cost much when your body was at rest after all. This was basically a dream for me after all.

It got me thinking. Did this world work the same for me as it did Ethan? I started to feel almost worried. What if I was exhausting him slowly by keeping him here? One night wasn't enough to drop him, but if it happened repeatedly than we wouldn't be able to do this as much as I wanted to.

It excited me to think what would happen when Savannah managed to get in here as well. Time for us to wake up. I needed to know if being in here was exhausting Ethan. We both woke up in my room suddenly. Ethan jolted awake on my bed.

"What the fuck?" Ethan looked around the room breathing quickly.

"Oh sorry," I inhaled slowly, "I should have warned you. It can be kind of sudden when I leave my inner world."

My wings twitched as I stood slowly. Raising my head off the edge of the bed as I glanced around the room. There was a new crack in the walls that made me wince. Seems the evolution of the bond had made me thrash around a bit.

"I was flying with you then I was in your bed," Ethan leaned back as he caught his breath, "A bit of a shock to the system."
