The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

Inner world 2

"You're kidding, right?" Savannah grumbled, "If you fail to go into your inner world we're left sitting here trying with a guarantee that we'll fail."

"If you don't like it than you can go back to your room," I snorted angrily.

Ethan seemed to agree with my statement. Savannah was in a bad mood, and since I could literally feel her bad mood it was putting me in a bad mood as well.

"Fine," Savannah shouted as she slammed the door open.

I slammed my own door shut in response to her agitation. Being seen right now would be far worse than any inconvenience Ethan might feel from me slamming the door in his face. My wings twitched as I waited for Ethan to close the door. I opened my door slowly, and peeked out slowly. Opening it the rest of the way once I saw that the door was closed again.

"She might become a problem," Ethan frowned mostly to himself.

"She's just worried," I wanted to stretch out, but my room was too small for any comfortable stretching, "She just doesn't want anything to happen. She wasn't able to get her point across so she's throwing a fit. She'll get over it." I huffed out a heavy breath, "Do you still want to try getting into my inner world?"

"An inner world of magic, and mystery," Ethan clapped his hands, "When do we start."

"Come in here," I shifted around so I could tip my bed back down, "Sit on the bed, and start meditating. I'll try to go into my inner world once your breathing settles. You said you could feel the difference from when I go to sleep versus when when I go to my inner world."

"Yeah," Ethan nodded as he stepped over my tail, and hopped onto my bed, "I've been focusing on our bond regularly to try, and strengthen it."

"You know how to meditate already as well?" I dropped my head on the end of the bed as Ethan sat cross legged on the bed.

"Yes I used to do it often to train my ability," Ethan nodded his face going solemn as fear, and anger flew through his mind briefly, "Sending out telekinetic pulses so I could interpret, and affect my environment."

"Well this time I want you to..." I trailed off as I tried to think of how to describe what he needed to do to get in my head.

System help me out here.

Bonded often describe entering the inner world the first time as sinking into user's side of the bond instead of just observing the bond within their mind.

System does that mean I could go into their minds as well?

Technically user is already within the minds of bonded individuals.

"Go into the bond within your mind," I realized I hadn't spoken for a minute or so, and felt kind of guilty with how intently Ethan was watching me.

"Go into it," Ethan looked confused as he looked down, and started to mumble to himself.

I didn't want to interrupt Ethan's thinking so I relaxed. Letting my body go limp as I fell asleep. My eyes opened, and I looked out over the glacial landscape in front of me. I startled myself with my own rumbling purr of success.

"I need to stop doing that," I snorted angrily at the fact that I acted more like a pet cat half the time.

I decided to work on some new spells while I was in here this time instead of strengthening my affinities this time. I went straight to that cyclone spell I'd been working on. It took my a few tries, but I got a good sized water cyclone going. The systems ding startled me making the cyclone fall apart.

New skill. Water cyclone. Lesser (25mp), and greater variant (100mp).

"Lesser, and greater variant?" I tilted my head, "That sounds almost like two different spells."

I cast the lesser water cyclone, and the smaller one I'd been playing with formed in front of me. I let the spell run out of magic on it's own. It seemed like the spells would last about ten seconds without additional mana added to it. I cast the greater variant water cyclone next. The massive water funnel that formed in front of me made me flinch back.

It was at least ten stories high, but the concentration of the water wasn't nearly as dense as it's smaller variant. The greater cyclone had way more air mixed in. It lasted almost thirty seconds on it own before disappearing on its own.

"What would happen if I added ice to that mess?" I wondered to myself, and winced as I started to think about, "Kind of a nasty way to go though. I don't think I should use something like that even if I manage to...."

Searing pain cut off my line of thought. I flinched writhing, and hissing in place. I looked back at the source of pain as Ethan's blue flame became an outline of his body. Filling in slowly before becoming colored, and Ethan dropped into my inner world. Panting like he'd just run a marathon.

Ally Ethan bond successfully evolved to lesser rider bond level 1. Ally Ethan can now temporarily borrow one of the user's stats.

Ethan didn't seem to hear the system, and I only halfway listened to the notification as I stared at Ethan.

"You got in on the first try!?!" I yelled at him in confusion.

He was still panting heavily. I snorted out four feet lightning.

"Stop panting you idiot," I chuckled to myself, "This is just a mental image of yourself. Panting won't make you feel less winded because it's all in your head."

I wanted to be over by Ethan, and the distance between me, and Ethan shrank so that I was standing over him. He stopped panting as he straightened up slowly. He smiled at me briefly before looking at the world around him.

"Yeah this is weird," Ethan patted himself down quickly, "It feels like my body, but not at the same time."
