Watch The Thrones

Shadow POV

It's the middle of the night. One whole night since our people died in Mount Weather and I find myself approaching the cell door to Roan prison. "I brought you something to eat" I slide the tray across the floor and into his cell. He only glared at me and I couldn't help but laugh. "Come on, it's not poison," I tell him. "Just leftovers from my dinner," I say. He got off the floor and picked the tray off the ground and gesturing it towards me. "Fine..." I sigh and reach out but he stopped me. He picked a piece of food off the tray and nodded. I opened my mouth as he reach through the bars and placed it into my mouth. I chewed the meat before swallowing it. "See, no poison" I joked before he began eating off the tray. "Why have you come all the way down here? Just to bring me food?" He questioned. "I think you're wrongly accused" I stated. He laughs "What makes you think that?" He questioned. "Because, I know what's it's like to have a parent doing everything wrong but because they're your parent you cannot stop them, nor do you feel you have any power in stopping them" I explained. He tiled his head to the side "Come on, I have seen the look on your face. You didn't know what your mother was planning" I say to him. It was quiet between the two of us for a while. "I couldn't sleep..." I finally confessed. "The nightmares from Mount Weather keep me awake," I tell him. "Regret your choices Haiplana kom death?" Roan asked me. "No, more of who I lost" I tell him. He tilted his head to the side once again. "My sister died in Mount Weather" I informed him. "She was just about everything to me and just like that some man took her away" I tell him. "This sister, she meant a lot to you then?" He questioned. "She was my twin" I say. "I don't know what that is" He shakes his head. "A person that looks like another, identical" I tell him. "I lost her twice before she actually died and somehow this feels worse" I confessed to him. "Why didn't you kill the Commander?" He finally asked me. I turned to him and he was right up against the cell bars. "I guess even as much as I hated Lexa I couldn't bring myself to kill her" I stated. He smirked "You're not quiet as I expected you to be" he pointed out. "Ill take that as a compliment" I giggled. For about another hour we talked until I began to feel tired. "Headed to bed?" Roan asked me. "Yeah, goodnight Prince Roan" I mocked his royal name. "To you as well Shadow of Skaikru" He smirked.

Clarke and I sit with the thirteenth Ambassadors for the clans in the throne room. "Ambassadors of the coalition. Today we honor our covenant" Lexa begins. "The clan that stands against one of us stands against us all" she spoke. "Bring in the accused" The man next to her ordered. Metal echoed as the doors opened to reveal the Ice Nation Queen. They pushed her to the ground to kneel before Lexa. "Queen Nia of Azgeda has confessed to the destruction of Mount Weather, resulting in death of 49 of Skaikru" he explained, burning a fire deep in the pit of my stomach. "Wanheda? What say you?" He asked her. "Skaikru demands justice" Clarke answered. "Azgeda does nou answer gon Disha gada" Nia hissed out as she glared at the both of us. "Hosh up!" The man next to Lexa hissed out. "The punishment for your crime is death" he simply tells her. The ambassadors begins whispering to one another. "Do you have anything to say in your defense?" He then asked her. "I need no defense. She does" she gestured towards Lexa. "Today is judgement day and I call for a vote of no confidence" she tells everyone. Lexa's demeanor changes. "Take this Queen to meet her fate" the man beside Lexa order. Men begin approaching her when another ambassador speaks. "Nou krei fast" he says, telling them not so fast. "Heda nou mo" he stated. Others stood to their feet, repeating his words. "Take them away too!" The man shouted. "Wait!" Lexa shouted. "Lexa. Please execute these traitors—" Lexa cut him off. "Let her make her move" she puts her hand up, stopping him from speaking. More people begin standing and repeating the words the first ambassador had spoken. "Commander, what is this?" Clarke asked. "This is a coup..." I hissed out. The Azgeda Queen slowly stands. "This is the law. Her law. A unanimous vote of the ambassadors or death. Are all that can remove a Commander from power" She explained. "It's not unanimous!" I hissed out. "We don't recognize the legitimacy of Skaikru!" She shouted at me. "We do" Titus spoke. "Yesterday, Skaikru took the brand. They are the 13th clan. This vote of no confidence fails!" He shouted. "All these coup plotters will suffer the exact same fate as the Ice Queen!" Titus shouted. "She won't take our heads because she knows our armies will retaliate" Nia pointed out. "None of us here wants a war!" She shouted. "We both know what you want Nia" Lexa stood to her feet before slowly approaching her. "If you think me unfit to command. Issue the challenge and let's get on with it" Lexa tells her. "Very well, you are challenged" Nia tells her. "And I accept your challenge" Lexa says. "So be it! Single combat. Warrior against warrior. To the death!" Titus announced. "Nia of Azgeda who do you choose to be your champion?" Titus asked. "My son, Roan. Prince of Azgeda" She announced. I turned my head to him, glaring hard. How could he not mention this before? "Heda who will fight for you?" Titus asked Lexa. Lexa walked over to her throne and sat down on it. "I'm the Commander. No one fights for me" she hissed out. Titus looked shocked as he glanced at Clarke and me.

"We have to do something Clarke, talk Lexa out of this" I tell Clarke. "If not and she dies we're all dead too" I informed her. "No need for a reminder Shadow, I know very well what the cost is and not just this truce" Clarke pointed out. "Get Titus to get us to talk to her, now Clarke" I ordered. Not long after Titus is walking us into the throne room. I see a bunch of kids around her. "Have you've talked her out of it yet?" I whispered to Titus. "No, but maybe your sister can" Titus looked over at Clarke. "I don't understand. The Queens not fighting why should she?" Clarke asked. "The Queen strength is not in doubt. Thanks to the both of you. Heda is" Titus hissed. Titus clap his hands and dismissed the children before Titus begins walking them out. "Aden!" Lexa called out to the boy in the back. "Stay" she commanded. "Clarke and Shadow this is Aden" she introduced us as we approached the little boy. "Aden is the most promising of my novitiates. If I should die today he will likely succeed me" Lexa explained. Lexa the smiled "They worry about their people. Tell them what will happen to them when you become Heda" Lexa tells Aden. "If I become Heda, I pledge my loyalty to the 13th clan" Aden says as he turned to the both of us. I glanced at Lexa, she can't be serious? He's just a little boy. "Thank you. Go join the others" she commanded him. Just like that he bowed his head and walked out of the throne room. "See? Nothing to worry about" Lexa smiled. "Worried about? Sorry if I'm about the fate of our people lies in the hands of a child" I tell her. "Then you worry for nothing Shadow" she tells me. "I've sent Indra to raise an arm from the villages bear Arkadia. Your people are protected as I vowed they would be" Lexa walked towards her throne. We both followed her "This is not just about our people Lexa!" I raised my voice. "You don't stand a chance against Roan" Clarke blurted out. "You've never seen me fight" Lexa hissed out. "No!" I shouted. "But we saw him kill three men in the time it took for the first one to hit the ground" I tell her. "If you're right, today the day my spirit will choose its successor and you both need to accept that" Lexa informed us. "Like hell we do" I tell Lexa before storming off.

I put my black hood on my head and glanced behind my back to see the Ice Queen and Roan. "When you kill Lexa your banishment will be over" Roan's mother tells him. "In the wake of your victory our people will be more powerful than ever" she tells him. "That will be your legacy. And your legend" she added. Roan voice became hostile. "Don't pretend you do anything for me, Mother." "You're right. Everything is do is for Azgeda. But what's good for Azgeda is good for you" she tells him. "My sword" she then called out. "If you won't fight for your mother or your queen. Fight for your clan" she tells him. I hear the sword "I want her head" she says before walking away. Suddenly I feel the point of the blade on the back of my neck. "Is that death I hear stalking me?" Roan asked me. I take off my hood and turn around "Or just the Queen of Death?" He smirked. "We need to talk" I tell him. "We have nothing to talk about" he simply says before lowering his sword. "I need to prepare" he added. "You had nothing to do with Mount Weather. That's why I didn't tell Lexa you gave me the knife" I finally tell him. "This is what your mother wanted all along" I added. "What do you want? Spit it out" he tells me in a whisper. I look him in the eyes "I want you to become the king" I tell him. He knit his brows together "I know you've thought of it" I tell him. "She was willing to let you die, willing you let you be banished. I know you just wanna go home" I say to him. "When I win today. I will" he says. "Yeah? For how long?" I questioned. "How long until your mother finds another reason to cast you out? To sacrifice you?" I asked. "No one can cast a king out of his kingdom" I pointed out. He shakes his head "I can't do it. My people would never take me back" he informed me. He turned away from me and I go to walk away. "But...I can help you do it" he says. I knit my brows together before nodding and listening to his plan.

I approached the door that's guarded by men. "I'd like to speak with your queen" I stated. He glared hard at me before opening the door and stepping inside. I followed him in "Shadow con Skaikru, My Queen" He announced. I approached the table to see the Queen a hot meal as a woman pour her a drink. She looked at me "To what do I owe the pleasure?" She questioned as the woman left her side and walked over to the other side of the room. "What if I changed my vote?" I asked her. "Now you're thinking like a leader of your people, unlike that sister of yours," She tells me. I walked around the table and stride closer her the Queen."I would need some assurances first" I tell her, a dull emotion in my tone but strong. "Skaikru will be safe" She assured me as she stopped eating and began to twirl her knife in her hand. "And me? My sister?" I asked her. "My quarrel is with Lexa not with you, nor your sister" She simply tells me as she stabbed the table with her knife. "Once she's gone I won't need that power of Haiplana or Wanheda," She tells me, mocking our names that the grounders had given Clarke and me. I stuff down the mocking and nodded "Okay" I say. "Okay?" She repeated. "You don't want vengeance for the dead at Mount Weather?" she questioned, narrowing her eyes at me. I stepped closer to her "My priority is with the living, not the dead" I reached out and take the knife out of the table in front of her. "Oso tai choda op kom jus" I speak, telling her we bind ourselves in blood. I take the knife and slide the blade across the palm of my hand. Blood seeped out and runs down my arm as I gestured the knife to her. "I see you've learned our oath" She pointed out. Roan had taught me it just moments ago. I wipe the bloody knife on my sleeve before stabbing the table in front of her. "Do you accept?" I asked. Nia stands from her chair slowly and picked the knife up "Oso tai choda op kom jus" She stated as she put the blade on her palm. "Hod op!" The woman behind us rushed over but I quickly turned around and tried elbowing her hard but was grabbed tightly and forced down on my back on the wooden table. I struggled against the woman as he lifted my arm and brought her nose to my sleeve and sniffed it. "Feisbona" She hissed out, telling Nia I have poison on my sleeve. Nia wiped the knife off "We could've been allies, Shadow" She tells me. "But instead I declare you and your people enemies of Azgeda" She hissed out. "Ontari, hold out your hand" Nia ordered the woman holding me down. She quickly does as she said and Nia cut the woman's hand open. "I'm letting you live, for now," She tells me. "To send a message to Lexa" She squeeze the woman's hands and the black blood hit my face. "I have my own Natblida" She hissed out. "And she will be the next commander" She added.

Titus reached out, touching the blood on my face. "A commander for the Ice Nation," Titus says, approaching Lexa. "Now all Nia's provocations make sense and we played right into her hands," He tells Lexa as Clarke glared at me. "She knew you'd accept her challenge" Titus added. "I've never seen blood like that color before"I pointed out. "It goes back to the first commander" She begins explaining. "When a night blood child is found they're brought here to be trained or are supposed to be," She tells us all. "Your legacy is no longer secure, There is still time to choose a champion" Titus stated. "You know I can't do that" Lexa tells Titus. "Heda!" Lexa cut Titus off. "Leave us!" She ordered them all. They all leave the room other than Clarke and me. "Titus is right," I tell Lexa. "You're giving her exactly what she wants," I say. She turned around "Only if I lose," Lexa says with a hiss on her tone. "I know you're just trying to help, Shadow but there's nothing you can do here," She tells me. "I can't just let Roan kill you" I pointed out. "If that is my fate, you must" She raised her voice. "You're driven to fix everything for everyone, You've been doing it your whole life" She pointed out. "But you can't fix this" She shakes her head. "I have to do this on my own and you both have to let me" She informed us. "No! I won't just sit there and watch you die!" I shouted at her. "Heda!" Titus comes into the room. "It's time" He announced. "Then, this is goodbye," Lexa tells Clarke and me. My heartfelt like it was in my stomach and I wanted to scream at her. "For now..." She looked over to Clarke with a longing gaze before walking around us and exiting the throne room.

Clarke and I ran to the side of the battling ring just in time to see Roan pick up the sword and Lexa to grab her weapon. Lexa slightly smiles "I'm glad you have come," She tells us both. "Me, too," Clarke says to her. Roan tries to take a cheap shot but Lexa quickly turned but only got his armor. Lexa swings her sword at Raon but he blocked her. The crowd cheers and roars as well as boos as Lexa keeps blocking Roans hits. I didn't know if I wanted Lexa or Roan to win. Their swords connected Lexa pounced towards him. Lexa grappled a hold of his sword with her bare hand, causing it to bleed open before elbowing him in the nose. My eyes widened when Roan quickly responded and knocked Lexa on the ground only to get tripped and a knee to the face. Lexa then picks up his sword and my heart sinks as Roan backed away. He turned around and punched a guard before taking his weapon approaching her again. They were both moving fast and Roan quickly took Lexa down with a hard boots to the chest. He then picked up his spear and stalked over to her but she quickly moved out of the way before the spear came inches to her chest. She flipped, round house kicking him to the ground and he landed flat on his back before quickly standing and beginning to fight with Lexa once more. Lexa is fast to get a hold of the spear, cutting Roan in the leg. He tries to block but failed when she hit him in the jaw with the end of the spear and causing him to fall in ton his back. For a moment I felt my heart almost stop. ""Roan!" His mother shouted as she stood to her feet. "If you die. You don't die a prince!" She screamed. "You die a coward!" She yelled. Lexa holds the spear inches from Roans chest as she spoke. I couldn't hear what she said but suddenly she lifted the spear abs shot it right at the Ice Queen. "Ah!" I hear someone scream as the crowd is shocked that Lexa as killed the Ice Queen. "The Queen is dead!" Lexa shouted. "Long live the King!" She then finished. "Long love the king!" Roan people chanted. "Heda! Heda!" The grounders chanted loudly. Clarke let a heavy breath out and laughed. "It's alright Clarke...Lexa is going to be just fine" I smiled at her.

After taking a long bathe and getting dressed in my night gown I walked into my room and over to my bed to see a note lying on my stand. I knit my brows together as I pick it up and read the words.

Shadow

Meet me in room 5.

R

I set the note down and grabbed my jacket before walking out of my room and down the hall to room 5. I reach up and knock lightly on the door. "Enter" Roan voice called out. I opened the door to see him turning around and facing me as I shut the door. "I got your note" I pointed out. "I see that, I was hoping you'd show" he smirked. "Well I couldn't go disobeying a King on his first night of duty now could I?" I tease him as I walked closer. "Is that right?" He asked. "So why did you ask me to come here?" I questioned as he takes a step towards me. "I wanted to thank you. For your kindness and your help" I stated. "It was the least I could do, seeing you help Clarke and I save Lexa" I tell him. He takes another slow step towards me "For you, anything" his voice is lower as he stands inches from me. He gazes down at me in a way I had never seen before. "You are something else Shadow of Skaikru" he whispered before reaching up and placing his large hand onto my cheek, brushing his thumb across my soft skin. "I...uh" I cleared my throat before stepped back a little. "Should head to bed" I tell him. I turn around and walked towards the door but Roan is quick to pin me against the wall and crashing his lips onto mine. I didn't hesitate to kiss him back as his rough hands began to caress my body. He then grabbed the back of my knees and lifted me up and carrying me over to the bed.

Roan rolled off me and onto his back as our breathed we're both heavy. "Wow...Have you done that before?" Roan teased. My mind begins to think of Bellamy, how my first time was amazing. How in seconds We we're shot at and the next we were making love in a Mountain where we were begin hunted in. We both laughed at his comment before he grabbed me and pulled me into his chest. I laid my head down on his chest and we held each other for a long time. "You're leaving, aren't you?" I asked. "Someone has to rule Azgeda" he tells me. "I know, for the better we all rather it be you" I tell him. "When do you leave?" I asked him. "In the morning, first light" he informed me. "Will I see you again?" I asked him, looking into his eyes. "Hopefully..." he whispered, tucking my long strand behind my ear. "And maybe it be on better terms than last time" he reminded me. I couldn't help but laugh at the memory of me trying to kill Roan. "Yeah..." I nodded. He leaned down and pressed his lips onto mine before we both had drifted to sleep.

I wake up, opening my eyes to see I had been in my the bed alone. "Roan?" I called out before there was no answer. I slowly pulled the sheets off my body and pick my night gown off the floor and tie it around my body. I walked over to the dresser to see a letter. I pick it up and read it.

Shadow

I left before you could wake. I have to return to my kingdom and pick up the pieces that my mother left shattered. Although we met on bad terms I am glad I met you. For you have captured my heart and for the first time I could be okay not being In Azgeda. But they need me now. I wish things could be different and that we could've met differently but I do not regret the time we've spent together. I will be forever grateful and in your debt. I will miss you Shadow. That laugh, your smile and your kindness, that isn't well known in my people. You will always be in my heart.

Ai hod yu in

Roan

I put the letter in my pocket and let out a heavy sigh. Would I ever see him again? That lies in the hands of fate.
