TMSN - Chapter 3

When we all turned to look at the owner of the voice, Mr White was standing at the door, looking directly at me.

"Okay," I said, looking at Joy then Ms Wilson. Their confused gaze flickered between Mr White and me.

"You know where my office is. Come down when the bell rings. I know you don't have a committed lesson," he said as he turned around and walked back to his office.

"Well, there you go, that's what I have next lesson," I said to Joy and Ms Wilson.

"What did you do?" Joy asked.

"I don't know, he probably wants to know how my assignment is going or something, you know after how I zoned out in our first class," I replied, not knowing for sure why the hottest teacher in school wanted to talk to me.

"Well, let's hope that you're not in trouble again. It's just your second day, Shadow," Ms Wilson said.

"What would be new?" I muttered more to myself.

The bell rang soon after I said that, so if Ms Wilson heard what I said at all. She couldn't question it.

Standing up, I walked with Joy to her locker. I didn't need anything so I just stood waiting for her before we went our own separate ways.

Once I reached Mr White's office, I knocked on the door and waited for an answer.

"Shadow, come in," he said. Damn, he is good.

"Yes Sir," I replied and walked in, shutting the door behind me quietly.

"So Shadow, what have you done for English since we last saw each other yesterday?" Mr White asked me.

"Not, much Sir," I answered honestly, looking down at my combat shoes shyly. I did not want to see a disappointed look on his extremely hot face.

"Look at me Shadow," Mr White demanded softly. I did as he said and slowly looked up at his face.

"No need to be shy, it's all good, I was just checking your progress with it that's all. You can sit down too," he said, gesturing to the chair closest to him. I did as I was told and sat down.

"Okay," I said, relaxing a bit into the chair.

"What do you think of me?" he asked me. Shocked, I looked up at him, trying to get a read on his face and emotions, trying to see what he was thinking, but he was a closed book. His eyes showing a mixture of unreadable feelings.

"I don't know what you mean," I say softly, confused on his meaning.

"Think about it, okay," Mr White smiled. "You can go now."

"Okay, thank you, Mr White," I said nodding my head, before leaving his office.

"Anytime." He called after me as I shut the door behind me.

"Shadow, is it?" Asked a girl who stood across the hall. She was wearing what looked like a designer dress and expensive six-inch heels.

I nodded and continued on my way to my locker.

"Don't turn away when I talk to you," She said, and I stopped walking. So she's going to be one of those girls who think they're top dog.

"What?" I asked, smiling at her. All I really wanted to do was to tear that perfect blonde hair off her head.

"What were you doing in Mr White's office?" She asked.

"Talking to him about my class," I replied honestly, starting to get a bit pissed at her. She took a few steps closer to me.

"Well, I suggest you stay away from him. He likes seniors, meaning year twelves. And more specifically, me," she said, making me want to vomit. "Natasha Smore."

"Whatever, it's illegal anyway," I said, taking a step away from her, the stench of her perfume filling the air suffocating me.

"Actually, it's not. I'm 18," she said. I shook my head,

"Still illegal," I said and turned back around to walk away. Before I could actually go anywhere, she grabbed my hand started to dig her manicured nails into my scars. Wincing a little at the pain, I turned around to face her. "Let. Go. Of. Me!" I growled, pausing at each word for emphasis.

"No one speaks to me like that," she said, bitch, slapping me and pushing me to the ground. Hearing as sicking crack, I looked at my ankle which was swollen and facing the awkward direction. Laughing, she dug her heel into my foot, hearing another crack, making me cry out in pain. She then started to walk away, leaving me with a bleeding swollen foot and ankle.

Luckily, Mr White opened his office door at the same time. He looked down at me and my ankle than at Natasha.

"What happened here?" He asked both Natasha and me.

"Looks as if she slipped sir. I was just walking by," She said sweetly.

"Is that correct, Shadow?" he asked me with a concerned look on his face. I shook my head, not trusting my voice. I held my ankle gingerly. Tearing rolling down my face, leaving hot wet trails, as I looked at him then at the snarling face of Natasha Smore.

"Natasha, principal's office now. We will be looking over the cameras later, but for now, we will need to get Shadow to the hospital. Do you want me to get Joy?"

I shook my head. "Not yet, just get me an ambulance and call Joe," I muttered, wiping away the tears as Natasha walked away. A stray tear escaped. Frantically, I wiped it away before Mr White could see me crying again.

"Okay," he said, fishing out his phone and called what I guessed was the hospital for an ambulance.

As the ambulance staff rushed me into the ER, Joe was following with a stressed look on his face. I felt bad that he got called out of work.

"Sorry Sir, but we need to operate on her ankle before it starts healing. We will call you once she's in recovery," A member of the staff said when they stopped Joe from entering the operation room.

Before I could get any words out or hear what Joe was saying, they injected a needle filled with drugs into my arm to knock me out so they could operate on me without me feeling any pain.

I woke up in a white room, feeling drowsy. Hearing snores, I moved slightly and saw Joe asleep on the chair which was pulled up next to the hospital bed I was on. He was resting his head on my bed, holding my hand in a tight grasp.

I gently squeezed his hand, "J-joe," I tried to say. My throat was dry, so it came out as croaky.

"Shadow," he cried, as he pulled me into a gentle hug, being careful of my leg.

"Water. Please," I croaked out. Joe nodded and handed me a cup filled with water.

"Want me to call the nurse?" Joe asked as I gulped down the liquid. I shook my head in response.

"Not right now," I replied, as I moved the covers to look at my leg that was wrapped in a thick cast, "is it big enough?" I laughed, "It was just my ankle and foot."

"I'll get the nurse," Joe said, "she can answer your questions." I nodded, agreeing with what Joe had said. Joe pressed a special button next to my bed that called for nurses.

When the nurse arrived, she gave me a quick once over to make sure everything was okay. "There were several breakages in the ankle and the foot," she explained as I nodded, "the cast will help it heal correctly, you will need to keep it on for two to three weeks, a month at most."

"Okay, am I free to go home?" I asked.

"Yes, your father will need to sign some release forms before you can go," she said. Joe nodded and went to follow her while I quickly got changed into a pair of shorts and a Harry Potter shirt.

"Ready?" asked Joe, "Joy is waiting for us at home." I nodded. He handed me a pair of crutches and helped me down the hall.

"Bye Shadow," The nurse called. Kelly, the nurse, waved me goodbye. I nodded, concentrating on not falling over.

As Joe helped me into the car, I noticed there were flowers on my seat. "Who are these from?" I asked.

"I don't know, someone dropped them off for you. There's a note though, but I thought you should be the first to read it. I nodded and opened the letter.

'Sorry I couldn't stay

Hope you get better

~ Drew White'

Mr White? I hid the note from Joe. "Just someone from school," I said as he raised his eyebrow at me in question.

"Secret admirer, aye?" Joe laughed, as he pulled out of the hospital parking and started driving us home.

"No Joe! Nothing like that. Just a concerned friend. It's a girl, Joe," I said. I couldn't tell him the truth anytime soon.

"Well, you could swing that way Shadow, I wouldn't judge," Joe said, looking at me from the corner of his eyes as he pulled up into the driveway, turning off the car.

"No Joe, I'm a hundred per cent straight," I said smiling, as I opened the door and Joe passed me my crutches. He then helped me out before shutting the door and locking the car behind me.

"If you say so honey," he laughed as he opened the front door. "Joy we're home!" He called as he closed the front door. We went into the lounge room and Joe handed the remote as he helped me into my favourite armchair.

"Hey Shadow, are you feeling okay?" Joy asked, her face full of worry.

"Yeah. As okay as anyone could be with a broken ankle and foot," I said.

"Well, can I sign the cast?" she asked. I nodded. She then out a silver sharpie and wrote her name with a heat, saying get better under it, onto the side of the calf.

I smiled. "Thank you Joy," I said. I turned on Netflix and put on Pretty Little Liars. I was re-watching the series before the next season started.

Halfway through the fourth season, Joe called us to the table for tea. Hopping up on my crutches, I made my way, slowly to the table, taking my seat.

For tea, we were having tacos. Hands-on food is the best. While I was having my second serving, Joy was helping Joe prepare desserts I was the last one to finish eating the tacos. In the end, we had ice cream with chocolate magic toppings over it. I have some leftover so Joy helped me to take it into the lounge room so I could watch TV and relax a bit.

As I finished off the fifth season, I started to get sleepy, so Joe and Joy made a makeshift bed on the couch for me. I didn't have to worry about the stairs. I smiled at them in thanks. Joy brought in the flowers that Mr White gave me. I smiled at the thought - he must care about me or feel bad about what happened to be the only one who gave me flowers.

I shook my head and went to sleep, thinking about Mr White and class with him tomorrow.

'Thank you, Mr Drew White,' I thought. Smiling, I drifted off into a deep sleep.
