Volume 1.4 Strange Feast

'Another year had passed in a blink of an eye. And now it's been three years since I came to this world.'

Myrene glanced at her reflection in the mirror. Her hair was long and had the color of glittering silvery moonlight just like her mother.

'I made a request to the Angel to reincarnate me to my parents who had the worst life. But in my more than three years living here, I've seen nothing that makes my mother's life hard. More like this life is still a paradise to me.' Myrene picked up another brownie. 'Yum. This is so delicious!'

Then she continued to keep eating. 'I have never had so many sweets like this before. Well, back on earth, I'm not really fond of sweets. But now they strangely taste delicious. It might be due to the fact that some of my body constitution changes as well, I guess.'

'However... there were three things I'm worried about.'

"First about this world. The world of Saztrel is inside a novel called Chaos Arise. A classical novel of a transmigrated summoned hero, who had the task of defeating the demon lord."

"Second, my brother and I still don't have our names. Though it is a strange custom, I haven't heard it even in the novel. Mom said that my father will be the one who will give us names."

"And speaking of my unknown father, the third thing I'm worried about is," Myrene picked the mirror once again. Her tiny fingers slowly trailed to her red ruby eyes in the mirror. "These eyes. The color of these eyes could only belong to one race in the novel."

"Milady," Myrene turned her head when she heard their head maid calling at her.

"Frayah!" She exclaimed in delight.

'Looking at Frayah, she has dark hair and purple eyes. She gave off the vibe of being strict but in actuality, she was rather reserved and mostly did what mom or what we asked her to do without any complaints. Despite these three years, I felt like there is this distance between us that I can never reach.'

'Frayah is the head maid of the house. Though in actuality she was just the only maid here. Then we have one cook as well and one gardener. But it is amazing that despite their lack of numbers, they are able to do their jobs very well in this huge mansion.'

Myrene immediately stood up and the cookie crumbs that were stuck on her lovely purple dress, fell on the red-carpeted floor.

"Your mother calls for you in the garden," Frayah said.

"Really?!" A flash of excitement filled Myrene's eyes. And without wasting any time, she dashed towards the hallways of the mansion.

After a few twists and turns, she reached the garden. She stopped in front of a huge fire tree. The wind suddenly blew and the red petals of the fire tree rained down. Beneath the tree, was her mother, who caught one petal into her right palm.

Myrene was completely in awe at this scene. It was like she was looking at a live beautiful painting.

'Seeing my mom's reincarnation, Rebecca is more prim and proper compared to her last incarnate who was always nagging me in my past life. Though she is still reprimanding me for things I shouldn't do since I am still a child, I don't feel as annoyed or irritated as before. Maybe it is because I am an adult inside and understand that these gestures are for my own good.'

"Mom!" Myrene immediately dashed towards her mother and locked her in an embrace. "You called for me?"

"My daughter," Madame Rebecca caressed her daughter's hair.

"Yes, mother?" Myrene glanced up, her eyes fluttered with anticipation at her mother's words.

"Your big brother's naming ceremony is around next week already, right?" Her mother said with her usual gentle smile. But her eyes flickered with worry. And it didn't escape Myrene's eyes.

"Mom, is there a problem with big brother's naming ceremony? He is really working hard these days."

Madame Rebecca shook her head. "Nothing, I'm excited as well." Then she buried Myrene in her embrace. "My children, my lovely children. Mama will always protect you."

Though it had the usual gentle tone of her mother, Myrene couldn't help but feel that there was something different with her mother today.

'Is something troubling, mother?' Myrene couldn't help but worry. 'But if I ask, she would not definitely tell me. If they can, the last thing parents want for their children is to let them be troubled by their troubles.'

"Madam Rebecca, Young Lady, your lunch is ready. Young master is already waiting for the both of you."

Both Myrene and her mother turned to Frayah.

'Did she just arrive right now or is she here all the time? I didn't sense her at all. Frayah is really something. Like those amazing super maids in the stories. So cool!'

"Little Sister! Mother!" The young master and Myrene's elder brother ran to them as soon as they entered the dining area.

When Myrene glanced ahead, she was surprised to see the table loaded and filled with mouth-watering dishes. However, this also caused confusion inside her. 'What's with this feast?' She tried to rack up her brain for any occasion they could have right away.

"Why are there lots of foods today?" Myrene couldn't help but ask the two adults since she couldn't really think of any occasion right now.

"It's because things will become much more lively the next day, Milady."

For the first time in her lifetime here, Myrene saw Frayah smile at them. But there was something strange since instead of being equally happy. At the same time, her mother's eyes that were always calm as the still water were now were filled with something Myrene couldn't point out.

Still acting innocent like a child, Myrene asked Frayah. "Why will things become more lively, Frayah?"

Instead of answering, Frayah reached her hands towards Myrene. "May I assist you to your chair, Milady?"

With reluctance, Myrene reached for Frayah's hands and she was quite surprised at how cold it was. 'Has this always been cold?'

"Madam Rebecca, Young master," Frayah started speaking again. "I hope you enjoy today's feast."
