Reflection in The Mirror

A pair of hazel eyes fluttered open.

They repeatedly blinked to adjust the light in the room which was neither too dark nor too bright, but the room still received quite a lot of sun rays that easily passed through the open window.

The girl with the hazel eyes felt the heaviness in her head when she tried to move.

There was a dull pain from her left wrist. She took a look and found something attached to it. The girl frowned and tried to figure out what was the thing that seemed to latch on her skin.

She saw her right hand was free and attempted to take a look at her surrounding.

The room smell... fresh and foreign. It was a complete contrast to the dark, dingy room she used to stay at.

A drop of tear escaped her eyes.

The consciousness inside the girl's body had braced herself for death. A true eternal rest at the price of an unbearable pain that likely destroyed her body in the process.

But at least, her spirit would be free. It was worth the sacrifice, or she thought.

Just look at this unfamiliar room.

She deeply prayed that she didn't wake up anywhere close to the land of her kingdom or that wretched other kingdom who dared to manipulate her until she was thoroughly hurt. Body and mind, literally.

However, when she tried to sense for her power, her body showed no reaction.

'Is it because my body hasn't recovered yet?'

The girl raised her hands to inspect the inside of her palm.

No spark. None at all.

Not even a tiny hint of magic existed.

The sudden feeling of helplessness surged up within her. Never has she ever felt so vulnerable at that moment.

But those feeling didn't last long.

When she caught a glance of her current self in the mirror, she froze.

It wasn't the body of her twenty seven years old self.

Her frame had become a bit tinier, more fragile-looking.

Her long wavy hair was cut short on the shoulder. It was the same shade of black, only thicker.

The face looking back at her was also thinner, paler.

But what stole her breath was the eyes.

It has the color of honey, instead of dark obsidian. They look so alive and so vibrant despite her frail condition.

The curiousity and wonder she felt were perfectly reflected in that pair of eyes.

The girl facing the mirror tentatively touched her cheek to make sure this wasn't a mere illusion.

'It is real,' she mouthed to herself.

A pink elastic band around her right wrist captured her attention. There were words written on the small white rectangle surface.

The words were a bit hard to read but the girl managed to murmur it.

"H..Han.. Yue.. Lin?"

'Han Yuelin.'

This body's name was Han Yuelin.

Hello! Thank you for reading this far. My current motivation is to make me fall asleep faster at night out of exhaustion by thinking and typing words long enough to create a chapter. Also, I really want to join the inkstone author's discord server. It seems fun and encouraging one's self to be more productive. But there is this requirement to post your own novel link, so there you have it... hehe
