3 A Heart That Remembers

Several months later, in late August.

"Yuelin, are you all right?" Aoning asked, a bit worried.

Yuelin snapped out of her reverie.

Standing before her and Aoning was an enormous structure that was the university's dorm building.

Although she shouldn't show any surprise because she was supposed to have been living in this place for three years since her freshmen year, Yuelin was still in awe with the new sight.

It wasn't the first imposing building she saw on her way to S University, but to actually stepped her foot inside a place many times bigger other than her family house in City K was truly a... an enlightening experience.

Row of rooms that greeted them was easily identified with the orderly numbering on each door.

There were a total of 15 rooms in one floor setting. They were arranged in a U shape with four rooms on the left and right side, and the rest occupied the middle area.

The surrounding was quite noisy with music playing and lively chatters in the background. Although the fall semester hasn't started yet, many students can be spotted doing their own things around the dorm building this morning.

The entire atmosphere nearly overwhelmed Yuelin who had been recuperating in a bed-rest for a full three weeks after getting discharged from the hospital.

The Han Family lived in City K which was around an hour distance from S University where Yuelin studied.

They were told that the illness might do some damage to their daughter's memories during her coma. So her parents, her one older sibling and one younger sibling literally had to jog her memory from scratch due to her oblivious condition.

Yuelin recalled what the physician, or rather, what the 'doctor' said about slowly reviving the details of her memory.

It seemed impossible.

She didn't receive any memory from the original -and likely already departed- Yuelin. But there were moments... when Yuelin would feel warm as she gazed at the family photo or when she suddenly fell upset upon seing the garden in the back of the house.

Apparently, the old Yuelin used to care for the now-barren garden and her mother would tend to it while Yuelin was away at university. But her mother could hardly pay attention to the state of a garden when her only daughter lied unconscious for days in the hospital.

Her older brother, Yingjie-gege, was a very patient person. In the hospital, he explained many things about their family, from her old habits until some secrets they shared together that their parents didn't know.

"Do you remember that one time when I secretly teach you how to drive a motorbike although Dad clearly said no because you aren't old enough yet. But we still do it anyway every time on your way back home from school."

Her immediate answer was a blank stare and she asked what kind of thing this motorbike is. The idea that something was even faster and more resilient than a trained war horse sounded so fascinating to her ear.

The eleven years old Han Yongrui didn't want to lose to his big brother either.

He handed Yuelin a rectangular thing called mobile phone and told her that her phone had been chiming nonstop since she was hospitalized.

Seeing Yuelin just held the phone he had carefully taken care of this past few weeks in clueless manner and received neither praise nor comment about his heroic deed, little Rui exploded.

"Big sister, you are really such a noob now. Let me show you how it works! You need to push this to turn on the phone first. Yes, that button. Then, watch as the..." Little Rui meticulously explained.

On the bedside, Han Yingjie just witnessed the whole scene with a small smile on his face.
