Replay

As expected, HS President's building is indeed large. It was like a huge condo. Ray unlocked the room and explained that the room beside the President's bedroom was her own office and bedroom. It was indeed big. Bigger than her apartment in Berlin.

"Is everything alright?" Ray asked Lily. She nodded, "Everything is good." Ray was very helpful.

"Ray, how long have you known the President?" Lily asked out of curiosity.

"More than seven years. We're best buds." Ray was half-Chinese and half-british.

"Then, you met him when you were in school then." Lily was surprised.

"Does he have any brothers or sisters?" She asked.

"One younger sister. Leanna. She's coming back to Shanghai soon. She's currently at a conference in Japan." Ray answered.

"Is Leanna your girlfriend?" Lily teased.

"No. She's not." He quickly replied.

"Don't lie, your face blushed." Lily laughed.

"Sorry. I tend to do that to people. I'm just curious since you are quite goodlooking. I bet Leanna is just as beautiful." She sipped the hot tea that was on the table. A maid in her forties came out of the kitchen.

"Good evening. I'm May. Feel free to eat them. I just finished baking these. These are President's favorite egg tarts. Miss. Lily, thank you for deciding to work for the President. You will come to like the place." Lily smiled, "Thank you for baking these. I was so hungry." The bread tasted so sweet and the cream inside melted inside her mouth.

"Ms. May, you need to teach me how to bake later on." May smiled and nodded, "For sure."

"Thanks May, these egg tarts are delicious." Ray stole one of the egg tarts and May slapped Ray on the wrist.

"Ow!" Screamed Ray.

"For goodness sake, these are for the President. Look at your mouth... tsk tsk.." May mumbled to herself then went into the kitchen again.

Lily couldn't help but laugh.

That night, she laid on her bed while Ray slept next door. Suddenly she got a phone call, "Lily, it's Jeffrey. There's gun violence outside the building now. I'm with another bodyguard now. Watch over the President. He has a history of PTSD. We'll come by soon.

Lily got up and knocked on Daniel's door. No one answered. She unlocked the door and no one was inside.

"Crap." She quickly went next door and called Ray.

"Ray. Unlock the door." Ray opened the door sleepily.

"Yes...?"

"The President is not in his room. Jeffrey called me just now there's another gun violence outside the building. We need to find him." Ray was awake now and quickly got ready.

"Let's go."

"You go that way, I'll go this way. It's likely Jeffrey asked President to stay in a safer area. The President was out with Jeffrey." Ray said. Lily nodded and went out to search for Daniel. She started to search from the lobby to the washroom and to the resting lounge. No one.

She searched the staircase that was close to the entrance. She was relieved Daniel was safe.

"Daniel..." He didn't reply. Daniel was struggling to breath.

"Get lost!" He shouted at Lily. She stood there motionlessly.

Daniel tried to stand up but was unable to.

"Daniel, look at me. I won't hurt you. Can you slowly breathe with me? You will be okay. Follow me." Daniel closed his eyes and slowly looked up to Lily.

"Good job. Keep breathing slowly and deeply." She guided him and he finally calmed down.

"Can you stand?" Lily asked.

Daniel slowly got up and shoved away her hand.

"You can go back. I'll go out myself." Daniel told her in a cold tone.

Lily was speechless. Wow, not even a thank you.

"I don't care what you say. You are not going out alone. I'm your doctor and I'm responsible for you. You can't even walk properly. I'll help you." Lily took the lead and held Daniel's hand.

Daniel was silent all the way.

"Thank goodness you're safe, Daniel." Ray looked relieved. Daniel was notified that Jeffrey caught the person who tried to shoot him (President). That person still needs to be interrogated.

"Lily, stay with Daniel for tonight. Jeffrey and I still need to talk about something." Ray pats her on the shoulder. Lily nodded but inside of her, she was pissed off because she doesn't know why Daniel always treated her like an outcast.

She could already see her grim future being his personal physician. People were already after Daniel. What did he do in the past?

Lily stayed in Daniel's room making sure he was fully asleep. She was already tired and was going to snooze for a bit. Daniel was still awake with his eyes opened. Lily went over and gave him some warm water to drink.

Daniel finished it and lied down again.

After few minutes, Lily went over to Daniel pulling her chair beside his bed, "Still can't sleep?"

Daniel finally answered.

"I will have nightmares again."

Lily pulled out her phone and opened the music app.

"I recorded this when I was playing my piano almost 7 years ago. It's Chopin's nocturne Op.9 Number 2. It's one of my favorite piano piece. Helped me a lot when I was going through tough times in medical school. Here, hold this. It will help you to sleep better." Lily took Daniel's hand and placed her phone with him.

After several minutes, Daniel's eyes were closed and he fell asleep. Lily was relieved and she got up quietly. She silented stepped out and stretched. Ray and Jeffrey were in the living room after they finished talking.

"Is Daniel asleep?" Ray asked.

"Just now. I recorded a piano piece from before and I used it to calm him down. Otherwise he won't be able to sleep because of recurring nightmare." Lily replied.

"Oooh, I never knew you could play piano." Jeffrey was surprised. Lily smiled.

"Hopefully he will be able to sleep well. Ever since seven years ago, he wasn't able to get a goodnight sleep except when he was in a coma. Lily, please stay with Daniel. I can tell he really needs you." Ray told Lily in a quiet tone.

"I'll try my best." Lily bowed.
