6 The Contract

After arriving home, Lily started to work at the hospital for a few months. She worked as a family physician but she wanted to work as a psychologist when she was in medical school back in Berlin. Out of curiousity, she started to read as many books on psychology.

After few months in the hospital, she had seen various patients from nice patients to patients who gives you all the crap. Lily was immune to them but she still made sure they get the best treatment possible.

"Lily!" Jeffrey hugged Lily as they met in the lobby. Jeffrey was on break so he visited her in the hospital. Lily hugged back and noticed how buff Jeffrey was.

"You must've worked out a lot." Lily teased him. She loved teasing Jeffrey. He's the best friend.

As they went to the cafeteria together, they talked as they got their food in a tray. They chose to sit near the window and enjoyed the outside scenery from within.

"It's been a while since we met." Jeffrey started to talk, "How you've been?" Lily swallowed her food before talking.

"Busy here and there. Saw lots of patient and most of them were pretty cooperative. Not too bad, I guess. How about you?" Jeffrey paused a bit before replying.

"You've heard about President Kim right? Been working as his bodyguard for quite a while, he's cold as hell." Jeffrey sighed as he chewed his food.

"He's that bad?" Lily looked at him in shock. He nodded.

"I heard a rumor that his ex-girlfriend abandoned him when he was in the hospital." Lily almost spat out her coffee, "What? Abandoned him? Why was he in the hospital in the first place?" Jeffrey looked at Lily and leaned close to her and whispered, "He got shot five times and there is still a bullet in his head. I heard his ex-girlfriend was a famous model. You know, Elizabeth?" Lily's expression was filled with horrid. Elizabeth, that fucking bitch deserves to rot in hell.

"Who shot him?" Lily asked.

"I heard it was a burglar." Jeffrey replied.

"Fat chance." Lily sipped her coffee, "I wouldn't be surprised if it was Elizabeth who shot him."

Elizabeth and Marcus... just you wait.

As Lily went out to take a fresh air, Jeffrey was talking to someone on the phone.

"Lily, President Kim will arrive here soon. Don't you need to go back and work?" Lily shook her head, "I got no patients right now. I'll go back in a few hours." Jeffrey nodded.

"Lily, can you wait here? I'll go pick him up." She nodded.

Suddenly her phone rang.

"Yes. Lily speaking."

"Lily, the director needs to see you."

"Okay. I'll be right up."

As Lily went up to the director's room, she showed her ID to the security guard before entering the room.

"Welcome, Lily. Please sit down." The director of the hospital was in his sixties but he still look like he is in his fifties. He had grey-white hair and was a bit shorter than Lily.

Lily sat down and the director asked his assistant to give her the file of the patient.

Daniel Kim.

Lily looked at the director and was a bit confused.

"Why did you give me his file?" She asked.

"Lily, it's been a while since you are in this hospital. I was his doctor for the past five years or so. But, it's also time for me to give you a chance. You have lots of potential. Your other patients are being transferred to another physician. For the time being, I would like you to be President Kim's personal physician. His medical history are all in there. Even though it has been a long time since he last saw me, his condition wasn't too good to begin with. I got a phone call from his assistant few weeks ago that President Kim was very sensitive to outside environment. Even loud noise can agitate him. As you can see in his file, he also suffers from selective amnesia. Currently he still doesn't remember what happened to him even though we told him he got shot in the head. As his personal physician, you need to check his health status everyday. Since five years ago, he barely made it out alive and he hasn't been visiting hospital regularly so I want you to stick by him." The director spoke a lot and Lily was able to digest some of it.

"You mean, twenty four hours? This gotta be a mistake." Lily was in daze, too many things were happening at once.

The director chuckled, "You graduated from the best medical school in Berlin and studied at a prestigious university before. As I said, you have lots of potential. As for being his personal physician, you need to stay by him and make sure nothing worse is happening to him. His assistant will help you." Lily didn't know what to say instead she sighed.

Lily took some time to read over the medical file while waiting for the President to come up. She was shocked he actually survived five gunshots.

One part struck her, "One bullet was not removed in the head due to dangerous side effect if removed. Patient will have personality changes, emotional outburst, headache causing nausea and vomiting if severe. Quiet spaces are the best. Loud sounds will agitate patient. Stress will make it worse." Lily tried to regurgitate the information as much as possible. It was her responsibility now.

The director greeted the HS Group President and introduced Lily to him.

"This is Dr. Lily Liang. She will be your personal physician from now on." Lily stepped forward and was looking to shake Daniel's hand.

"Nice to meet you, President Kim. My name is Lily Liang." She smiled as she spoke to Daniel.

Daniel stood there with a stoic expression and his hands were still in his trouser pocket.

"Alright." Lily puts her hand back into her lab coat.

"Come sit. Feel free." The director asked Daniel to sit on the sofa. Daniel took off his sunglasses and Lily nearly had a heart attack, he was too handsome for her eyes. She tried to stay as professional as possible.

"President Kim, it's been a while since you came to this hospital. How do you feel now?" The director asked.

Everyone was waiting for Daniel to answer but he didn't say anything. Ray, his assistant, told the director that Daniel wasn't in a good mood. The director smiled, "Don't worry, President Kim. Take your time." Lily looked at Daniel and decided to stay quiet.

"Miss. Lily, I'm Ray, Daniel's assistant. Pleasure to meet you." Lily shook his hands, "Nice to meet you too." Ray took out a contract form.

"This is the contract form. Please read it over before signing." Lily took the form and read it from the beginning the end.

As she read the contract form, she was shocked how much she was getting paid. It was a lot. She stayed cool and read the rest.

"President's health must be the priority before doing anything else. Not allowed to make physical contact unless necessary. Not allowed to enter President's room without permission. Everything you hear must be kept confidential." Lily finished reading and signed it. The contract was for three months.

"When do I start?" She asked Ray.

"Now. I already asked Jeffrey to get your stuff from the staff room. All your personal stuff will be delivered to the President's house."

"Oh brother..." She sighed.
