240 [Chapter 238] Nonchalant

I swipe the rubble and dust from my suit, cleaning it off back to its white color yet again. I look around, just to see a large group of eyes set on me, a muffle of confused emotions. My eyes connect with who I presume is the king's, causing me to inwardly shrug at his gaze, 'Let's just get this over with. I've dealt with enough bull crap today.' I trudge forward, the rubble around me shoved away by my legs, as if it was paper.

The king is baffled in awe as he stares at me, shock written across his face. Everyone that was inside should of died, especially those on the lowest level. However, here was a mysterious man, unharmed by the collapse of over 1,000 tons of stone on him.

I approach him without a care in the world, each step I take bringing me closer to his silhouette. As I slowly approach, the soldiers who survived seem to finally snap out of their shock and run towards the mysterious white figure. They have never anything close to the clothes this man is wearing, and this suspicious person appeared just as the castle just so happened to erupt with the explosives stored beneath.

'So it was him!' The guards conclude. The red armored knights begin to charge at me with long swords in their hands. But I don't give them the chance to take a single step as the shadows beneath their feet come to life.

Moments later, groups of spikes launch upward, piercing each knight's armor, skin, and then innards. Impaled on the spot in agonizing pain, each one screams out in agony as blood drips from each of their bodies.

I glance at the men, screaming in agony, but I only glance as I don't falter. After moments filled with screams, I stand before the king who is trembling in fear.

I whip open my scythe as the mechanical locks fall into place. My voice echoes from the mask as I ask, "Any last words? Don't waste them trying to convince me to spare you as it's useless."

He can only stare at me, wide eyes filled with horror. The gruesome scene he just saw moments before is proof this person can uphold his promise. 'And to wield a scythe 2 times larger than his body…' The kings thoughts trail off as he swallows his previous words disappear, merely looking at his children as he says, "I love you."

I don't hesitate as, in one swift movement, his neck is split in 2. His body falls to the ground with a thud as a ping resounds in my head.

Ping!

My eyebrows raise at the window, shocked that it ended just like that.

'Did the war really end with the king? Was he the main culprit behind it all? I should still make sure…' I ask myself before slowly looking over at his children, the look of fear on their faces deepening.

I appear before the children in what seems to be a flash, as my demonic voice echoes behind the mask, "Don't think of following in your father's footsteps, unless you want to end up like him."

Their colorless faceless lose any semblance of humanity as depression fills them both. They can only nod soullessly as I walk away, leaving the group of disheveled royals behind.

I wave my hand as a thought enters my head, 'Home realm.'

My shadow grows beneath me as I fall through the floor, entering the endless void momentarily. Seconds later, I am standing inside my bedroom within the cube, the cold mechanical walls surrounding me. I slowly look around the room, only to suddenly feel a presence behind me. Before I can turn around, I feel a hand on my shoulder, quickly followed by a seductive voice with a icy undertone beneath.

"Hey Kurayami, I missed you. Where have you been?"

I feel a chill go down my spine as I slowly turn around, coming face to face with my girlfriend, Winter. The skin around her eyes is puffy and red from the tears, her nose even redder. Once a beautiful girl, I now only see an incarnate of Satan as I realize, 'This is probably the last thing a man sees before death.'

I had left my girlfriend with a 6 legged cat, after being in a coma for several days. Disappearing entirely after those days and suddenly coming back a few days later. All this time, her being worried sick. If I do not die now by her hands, it will be a miracle sent to me by the gods.

I nervously smile as I scratch the back of my head, trying to think of the single correct answer to prolong my life, "I…uh, I had some…things to do."

She smiles creepily as she asks in a threateningly cheery voice, "Oh! Somethings! They must have been important since you had to leave your crying, worried girlfriend here, all by herself for a few weeks."

My face darkens as I kneel on the ground, my head resting on my folded hands as I realize, there is no way to salvage this. I beg in my saddest and most honest tone I can summon, "Please forgive me. I shouldn't have left."

She laughs coldly, "Don't worry, it's perfectly fine. You should just go back to doing your important things."

I swallow dryly as I feel a true reaper's scythe on my neck. I have fought many opponents, traded blows, been covered with cuts and marks. I have lost limbs, watched men melt, explode, and even seen their innards fall out. But nothing is more horrifying than this moment right now.

'A woman in a relationship is the most terrifying thing of all.'
