Adria looked out the window to see a bright blue sky, birds peeping through her window. How lovely this sight was, only to those who have lived a comfortable life.

Adria was a beautiful young lady with dark brown eyes which hid her emotions and pain. They were guarded by her long lashes, she had a honey like skin that was flawless,a pink rosy lips and curly hair which was a bit different from the average African, thanks to her mom who was mixed .

Growing up she had a broken family,full of conflicts,dishonesty,hate and never had real friends who weren't there to gain, but this she believed...she inherited from her mom after all they were both Leo's but the difference was Adria is an alpha by nature while her mom was a beta.

She had experienced ugly and painful life endangering events and she still stands

*THE PAST

Adria's mom 'madria ' had a bad marriage, her husband slept around and mistreated his wife and kids.

Madria was from the eastern part of Nigeria and England, she was mixed, she had a light brown eyes and a black hair which stopped at her shoulder.

She was living with her parents before she decided to go to Lagos to study in her dream school and on her way there, she found love. A guy named Emmy who assisted in her studies.

Emmy was a Nigerian pilot who got to see madria in a flight to Lagos.

He fell in love with her beautiful smile, her friendly and welcoming attitude.They fell in love and he ended taking her virginity.

They were deeply in love, he would travel round the world and will always come to see madria at Yabatech University of Lagos . Things were going smoothly for them and she even started up a business which she earned a lot from.

Madria was a beautiful woman, and this was a good thing only to few due to this fact lot of people envied her and still stick with her just to gain from her .

One of them was her roommate named sasha who had no good intention towards her but it was too late when madria realized.

PRESENT

Adria inhales the smell of her hot coffee while steering at the landscape outside her window, closing her eyes to breath in the fresh earthly smell mixed with her coffee, while she thought about her mother past experience in life which she had been told.

*her thought was interrupted by a knock on the door

"Who's that?"she asked without opening her eyes. The door swung open, revealing a pretty lady who was more lighter and prettier than Adria.

"Hello my little pumpkin " a smile tugged on berlina's bright pink lips

Berlina was Adria's elder sister and her only sibling, she had light brown eyes like her mother and her hair was gold and smooth like expensive silk, she had a great aura that surrounded her and made appear authoritative, merely looking at her you could tell she wasn't an ordinary person. She was Adria's inspiration and the only person who understood her.

" Hey big sis ,how are you doing ?" A slight smile appeared on Adria's face.

"I'm good,this place reek from depression what have you been up to" Berlina says while taking a sit.

Adria walks down and sits opposite her sister while offering her a cup of tea .

"Just been thinking about my trip to Japan to sign a business contract and I'm trying to open a crypto account, the preparation of my visa was delayed and I'm trying to resolve the issue. it's a lot of work you know. "

Berlina scoffs "a lot of work? Keep your lies to your self little rabbit and tell me the gaddem truth. "

Adria "I alrea-"

"Oh wait is it still about Ryan?" Berlina interrupts Adria with a question she has been trying to skip.

Adria looked out the window and haves a sigh as she remembers Ryan.

*THE PAST

Adria " you're coming with me Ryan, I'm not letting anything happen to you"

Ryan "I can't I don't want you to get hurt because of -"

Adria "Did I ask for your opinion? What I say is final got it? Who's the boss? Who pays who? Don't argue with me! Your coming with me "

Ryan "If he comes here and he doesn't see any of us.....he's gonna figure it out you know his smart and dangerous, that's the worst attribute a person could have. I swore to protect you with my life, so I'm not going to sit down and watch you die!.

Yes your my boss but you mean a lot more, and by the way my job is to protect you and that's what I'm doing . So I'm so sorry but I have to disregard your command this time. I don't think he would want to hurt me, I'm of no use to him. "

Adia looks at him in disbelief "are you mad!, I won't let you sacrifice your self or become a bait ok ,he will never let you live useful or not. "

Ryan smiles while staring at her. "yes I'm mad. I'm madly in love with you" he paused.

"someone who would never feel the same, no matter how hard I try. " He said with pain evident in his eyes.

Ryan was Adria's bodyguard who had worked with her for a long time, he had been with her from the first day she started her company and had risked a lot to stay by her side .

Adria was once involved with an under world gang, she had made a lot of enemies in the process, she was one of the best in the gang and their boss was known by all, he was called. 'Nightmare'

Nightmare wasn't named that for no reason, he made Nigeria go round, he was one of the most influential in the country and he was feared by many.

Adria had an alliance with him, they worked together and she had her own subordinates, who were under her directly and Ryan was one of them.

Ryan was a tall well built guy and he had chocolate like skin ,he was very strong and had eyes curved like a fox, he had a cute kissable lips and amongst all he was a very smart man .

He assisted Adria in whatever task she was given, till Adria wanted to leave the gang which brought chaos and caused the death of her secret lover and bodyguard Ryan.

Unknown to Adria, nightmare was aware of her secret romance with Ryan and when she decided to leave the gang, he requested for her to complete a task in Lagos, in which she would eliminate the mayor of Lagos, this was an impossible task even for him.

Adria refused and went against him. They turned to rival, causing a big clash between her and nightmare's gang.

In the process of fighting for freedom, she lost all she had and the one person she care about other than her family. After a fight broke out, Adria and Ryan were under attack by their ex boss, the fight for freedom had been going on for a long time.

Adria was standing close to her car, and was unaware of the gun aimed at her from afar, Ryan saw this and tried to alert her but everything happened so fast and he ended up taking the shot on Adria's behalf .

Adria "stay with me Ryan don't you fucking give in ok"

Ryan twitch his lips trying to indure the pain "I thought you said you didn't care about me, why *cough* why...why are you *cough*-"

Adria "shut up! stop talking ok, just shut up and stay with me, just hold on ok ,the ambulance will soon be here. Stay with me. "

Ryan smiles as he coughed and blood gushed out from his mouth , "The pain is much my love,I can't ho....l...d on. "

Adria shivered as she heard him "don't say that stop saying that! Stop talking save your energy.....your gonna be ok. "

The pain was more than he could bear he was shot thrice in the stomach ,Adria tried to reduce the blood gushing out by pressing the cloth in her hand against the bleeding .

Ryan" this is a forbiddi-" coughs heavily and Adria felt his body relax

Adria " Don't do this! please" Adria who would never beg even at her death bed was pleading

"Don't do this to me,plea..se.... I.. I.. I love you. You've got to stay with me have you forgotten your a fighter and you are the best bodyguard I have ever met, don't do this don't let nightmare win!!! You love me right? if love really is strong as you had always said to me...you've got to stay with me" chocks as she spoke to him

Ryan smiles as he heard her remarks she loves me? naaah, she's lying but hearing her say it made him feel peace of mind.

Finally, those words he had wished to hear all these time, he had been with her he had always loved her but he knew she wasn't someone who believed in love .

Ryan smiled broadly as he said "I love you much more and I know you are trying to make me feel better but it's already la-"he stared at her for a while, he tried to say something before he could voice out his thought, he felt a sharp pain accompanied by dizziness and before he could complete his word darkness consumed him.

Adria could see the blood stains on his teeth as he smiled, she looked up to see the ambulance approaching them, she felt relieved. She was too distracted to hear what he was saying but she smiled and assured him "your gonna be ok look over there ...the ambulance is here" her smile froze as she felt his body relax, she looked at him immediately.

Adria "Ryan stay with me ,they are already here Ryan, help is here come on ,stay with me you fucking promised Ryan! You promised. Ryan!!!!!"

"Hurry up his dying!!!! what is wrong with all of you!! Ryan!!!!!!!!"

Adrian could feel nothing but emptiness as the nurses took the body away, the whole place was dead silent, as though the noises had been filtered, the only thing that could be heard was Adria's cries

*PRESENT

Snap!Snap!!

Berlina "snap out of it Adria, let the past stay in the past ,how long will you keep doing this to yourself. you have gone through a lot already don't you pity yourself? "

Adria was startled due to the snapping of fingers from her sister, she didn't even realize she was sobbing silently already.

" He died for me, he would still be alive if not for me I..I...I tried my best to save him, I tried to keep him safe from nightmare, I told him not to follow me bu.....I...I killed him instead. " she cried louder as she began to shake. " I'm the reason his dead. "

Berlina " you didn't kill anyone ok, you were framed , you can't even hurt a fly and how could you kill someone you cared about. Even if you didn't love him, you still cared so much for him.

That is the closest you have been to loving someone young lady, you have been through a lot and I expect you to try to recover and focus on building yourself, do you think Ryan died for you to sit around and cry or for you to skip your work with the excuse of a headache? you can fool everyone but not me. When you made up that stupid excuse yesterday at the board meeting, I already knew everything. "

Adria looked at her and shook her hand "No,no I didn't try to deceive you I really had a headache, I did I just I just- "

Berlina grab Adria in for a hug "for goodness sake get a grip of yourself and MOVE ON please!!! Everyone is worried sick about you. You're a bright kid don't let your past affect you, do you still remember what happened to mom? Her whole world crumbled but she still choose to move on. "

Berlina narrates her mom's experience again to her kid sister while cradling her like a kid. Well she was her kid sister so she was like a daughter to her .

*PAST

Madria was sitting with sasha.

"Madria you promised to give me 100 thousand naira don't forget "

Madria smiled "I won't I already t-".

She was interrupted by a phone call

RING! RING!!

Madria looked at the call id and picked it up, excitement visible on her face.

" hello sis what's going on been a while how's your husband and the kids. "

Madria's elder sister chioma replied "they are all fine how is school. "

" it's fine. So far I ThankGod " madria.

" I just gave birth, can you come over I need some assistance. " chioma

Madria smiled brightly "wow congrats sis, I'll be coming soon ok, this is an amazing news. It's a girl right?"

Chioma "when you come you would know the sex of the child. "

"Ok that's fine I'll be coming tomorrow. "

"Alright bye " They ended the call.

Madria smiled widely as joy filled her. She quickly prepared for her departure, she bought gifts for her sister and the baby.

She said bye to sasha and gave her some money in addition to the 100k given previously, if only she knew how nature and humans worked.

She arrived and helped her sister, she was always there for her sister, even though they didn't grow up together, she was her elder sister after all.

Few weeks later she received a news that her school was on fire, this was when things turned sour. She went back to school to see everything burnt down, she got information that sasha took all her things her money,her clothes everything and when people asked she said she was going to give it to her.

She lied. She left and madria never saw her again. Madria sat there steering at the empty space, she had never been lucky at having reliable friends, now all she had, all she had worked for was gone and Emmy was out of the country, even her dream school was burnt down .

Madrias life was really on a tough spin right now. She had no choice but to return back cause there was nothing there for her anymore.

2months later

Emmy came back, he heard about what had happened to her, he wished he had come earlier. He could see the pain in her eyes

, he held her so close and tried to make her feel better.

He stayed with her for some weeks before he heading back, being a pilot was a very stressful job and they are few pilot in Nigeria. So they were always needed before he left, he gave her some dollars.

He left and madria started a business again with time her business grew and she started visiting around Nigeria

One day she flew to the southern part of Nigeria, port harcourt to be specific and there she found him, her mistake.
