Chapter 14

The Herald waved his hand and a ball of golden light appeared in front of them, hovering gently. It was the size of a normal person's head and many mysterious runes danced within.

"This is Melian. A spirit nurtured for many millennia by our best resources. She was created for the sole purpose of helping us rise again. She is not a powerful being such as The Herald here, but she is just like the five of you."The Heart of Darkness' tone was that of a gentle Mother, who finally decided to let her child spread her wings on her own.

"Like us?" Primrose asked while tilting her head cutely.

"Yes. She has something that all of you have. Potential. Unlimited potential. She is the ultimate tool that will aid you in your journey. Her growth will depend on how much effort you put into raising her. She will explain the details to you later, but do note that all of you will have to work together to make it possible. Now, come forward and put your hand inside the ball of light."

One by one, the new Princes and Princesses put their hands inside the ball of light, and suddenly, a holographic panel appeared before them.

"This… is a system, isn't it?" Lucy turned to Nathan.

"Ultimate tool indeed…" Nathan grinned happily, very excited to get started on using the system.

"Nice to meet you too, Melian." Nathan greeted the spirit who would presumably follow him for the rest of his life.

"So, since Melian is a spirit, can she speak?" Lucy asked curiously, while Primrose was too excited to think about anything else.

"Technically, yes. But as of right now, she is too weak to communicate with you directly. She will be able to speak to you normally in due time." The Heart of Darkness explained.

"The system includes many features and abilities, that I would leave it to you to explore further. Now that you have all established a connection with her. Melian, you may bind your soul to the Crown Prince's."

[Binding Soul to the individual: Nathan Netherstar, Would you like to proceed? Yes/No]

"What is a soul bind?"

"The soul binding, binds two souls together permanently. It provides them with a stronger connection to each other and opens a space in the host's soul for the other to stay in. Once finished, no one can ever tear them apart, or harm Melian in anyway, unless of course, they manage to kill the host. It also provides her with better connection to all of you, and makes her harder to detect."

"Does that mean they will fuse together!?" Lucy seemed terrified of the idea.

"No, not at all. The binding is more like tying two people together with a string. While the rest of you are bound to her with a string, he will be bound with a handcuff. Don't worry. It is not harmful in the slightest. I want them to preform a soul binding, so Melian can help him better. She will help all of you the same, but as Crown Prince, he will get a bit more help, as I believe the news about your ceremony has already spread far and wide, so you will need all the help you can get."

Nathan listened carefully to the explanation of The Heart of Darkness, and seeing that there didn't seem to be anything dangerous, he put his worries aside.

"Yes."

Melian shone with a blinding golden light, and shot directly at Nathans forehead, sinking gently right between his eyebrows. There was no pain or feeling of comfort. Very anticlimactic in Nathan's opinion.

"Should you wish to see your status anytime, simply think 'status'."

Everyone tried opening and closing the status panel a couple time, before they satiated their curiosity. They still had many questions about the system, but they decided to explore it by themselves later.

"Now that the system is functioning, it's time for our most important task yet."

"And what is this task?" Damon asked coolly.

"The invaders from the beyond are known as The Void. They simply exist to devour everything, and anything they devour disappears forever, returning to nothingness that only strengthens them. They exist in the void between Universes, and are extremely hard to kill. It is our duty to fight against these invaders and so, we were granted a weapon to use against them. Sadly, this weapon was lost, alongside The Supreme God but now, we are going to forge it once again. It is our only hope at standing against those who threaten us."

"What kind of weapon is this that is so powerful?" Nathan inquired.

"You will see soon." The Heart of Darkness turned to The Herald that has been quiet from the very beginning. Although the crystal did not have a face, it was pretty easy to figure out where it was looking, which was very strange.

"Take us to the chamber."

"As you wish, Your Excellency." With another wave of The Herald's hand, they all teleported in front of a massive double door that reached as high as 50 meters, making them feel like ants. Two Knights geared in black armor while holding a sword and shield stood on each side. Noticing their presence, they kneeled on one knee while stabbing their sword downward.

"Greetings Your Excellency, Your Highnesses."

"At ease, you may return to your posts."

"Yes, Your Excellency."

They stood up and returned to their posts, no longer paying any attention to them. Although they seemed docile, the pressure emanated from them left Nathan breathless, but at this point he was used to these suffocating presences. He tried looking in between in between the gaps in the helmet to see their face, but nothing could be seen.

The Guards opened the very heavy looking doors, giving them a glimpse of what was inside.

A long walkway that lead to another door, which was smaller but that was not the surprising part. Hundreds upon hundreds of black armored Knights patrolled the area, some in formation while some were alone, with many not even moving a single muscle as though they were a statue. Many of them also had black feathered wings and flew around constantly.

"Wow! So many Guards! But don't they get tired or bored here?" Primrose was absolutely hyped seeing the display of power.

"These Knights are a part of our most elite Order of Knights, The Twilight Guardians. They belong to the Undead Race so they do not tire and they do not get bored. Their loyalty is absolute and without question. The perfect choice to protect such an important location." The Heart of darkness explained.

They reached the other end of the walkway and entered the other room. It was a spherical room that was hundreds of meters in diameter. The walls were covered in dark glass-like material that shone slightly. The walkway extended all the way till the middle of the of the spherical room where it suddenly ended. Floating alongside everyone The Heart of Darkness continued,

"This room is covered with Aether glass. It is a material that is capable of withstanding the explosion of an Star, even if placed right in the middle of it. It is very good at masking the undulations in the room, and keeping the Energy from leaking outside. It would also strengthen itself the more energy it absorbs."

"As I have mentioned before, it is our duty to protect this Universe and it was bestowed upon us by The Universe itself. We became the sword and shield that was meant to protect our universe, so our ancestors decided to take action against protecting the Path of Darkness from corruption. This is also the reason why we are so few compared to other factions. We are very strict in our choices, and our chosen are free of the evil of the mortal heart as they have already passed the trials set in place by the ancestors that does not seek talent, but the truth hidden in their hearts. They will never fall victim to The Seven Great Sins:

Lust, Pride, Envy, Wrath, Greed, Gluttony, Sloth

These are the bane of living beings, and only those capable of resisting them, or breaking free from them should they fall prey, are chosen to enter our Path. Unlike other factions, we cannot be corrupted, neither can we afford to."

"Now, you are all witnesses to the first step in the recreation of the strongest sword that has been wielded by us since time immemorial."

"Behold, our chief weapon against our enemies. Those from within or beyond can only tremble in fear and await their demise when it is unsheathed…"

"We shall re-establish… The Underworld!"
