Chapter 17: When you gaze into the abyss, it chirps back at you… 

*Kirari POV*

In order to reassure my parents, I accompanied them to the hospital to get a check-up for my eye.

The same doctor who said I was "quirkless" before, gave a detailed explanation of how my eye could be the result of a partial mutant quirk variation.

Mutant quirks, also known as heteromorphic quirks, are quirks that give the user a permanent "abnormality" such as changing their default skin color to pink, making their head like that of a bird, or giving them extra limbs.

In school, I learned that when quirks first started appearing, wars broke out due to them, especially due to mutant quirks.

Nowadays, the discrimination isn't so bad or prevalent. But it still does exist.

I don't know why the doctor was so adamant about explaining all this to my parents. Maybe he wanted to make up for his previous mistake or maybe he wanted to convince my parents to accept my abnormality and not discriminate against me.

Either way, my family was reassured that there was nothing wrong with me.

However, the whole trip took much longer than necessary.

My patience was pushed to its limits during the check-up. I had to sit through a boring lecture, unable to test my Vision which finally unlocked after so many years.

But finally, it is time.

After arriving home, I quickly ran to my room.

I immediately went over to my full-length mirror.

There, I finally got a clear, close-up examination of my own left eye.

The originally emerald color had become dark violet. My pupil turned into a lavender colored three-fold tomoe (mitsudomoe).

Without a doubt, it was the electro vision symbol from Genshin Impact.

"I'm glad that I got my Vision but… In my eye? Seriously? I look so chuuni now... Just because it's called "Vision", didn't mean that you had to take it LITERALLY. Dio-sama, whyyyyy?!"

After a minute of venting, I quickly got over it. Thanks, Gamer's Mind.

Who am I to judge a God's decision?

Fischl was originally a chuunibyou anyways. Now, I have a legitimate reason to wear an eyepatch just like her.

"… Plus, it does sort of look cool…"

Unconsciously, I started to make chuuni poses in the mirror. The same ones Fischl did in the game.

"Ehem… I created another universe and founded paradise…"

I placed my left hand over my left eye. My Vision was peeking from between my middle and index finger. I even created a spark to make it look like it was glowing.

"… for I, Fischl, am the Prin-"

Faster than I've ever moved before, my head snapped towards the entrance of my room where I heard the shutter noise of a camera.

And there, to my horror, was my own mother with her phone out! A big smile was plastered on her face!

'SHE DID NOT JUST-!!!'

"Oh hi, honey~! Just came to check up on you. Since you are looking alright, I'll leave you to your own business. OkayGottaGoByeee!"

"WAIT! DELETE THA-… aaand she's gone… and now my life is over."

No doubt, she will be showing that picture she just took to the other moms in the neighborhood to show off how "cute" her daughter is.

The thought made me shudder. I stared at my lifeless eyes in the mirror.

In the end, it was my fault. In my excitement to test out my Vision, I became too careless. I didn't lock my door.

I failed to keep my emotions in check and succumbed to my "dark side".

Although I was a man in my previous life, as much as I hate to admit it, I am now a cute eight-year-old loli.

My mind is still affected by my body. It was something I hoped that Gamer's Mind could help out with, but apparently, I was wrong.

"Haaa. REGRET!"

After another minute of venting and rolling around on my bed cringing, I got back to what I was doing before being distracted.

I opened my system to check my Vision.

I noticed that the mods were practically the same for Skills except that Range became Durability. Honestly, whoever made this system must be one lazy system designer. It's like they couldn't even come up with new ideas.

Even the stats of Visions are dependent on the equipped Skill and Character.

"A familiar huh. As expected of Fischl."

In Genshin Impact, Fischl had an intelligent night-severing raven nicknamed Oz as a familiar.

To be exact, Oz was the manifestation of her Vision's power.

He would help attack during combat, serve as her eyes in the sky, and even translate Fischl's chuunibyou-filled words for others to understand.

I was honestly excited to have my very own Oz.

Finally, I can have a partner that I can grind with.

"100 Energy… That's forty percent of my current energy pool. It will be hard to summon a familiar mid-battle with that kind of expenditure. And no duration? Can I keep my summon out indefinitely or until it gets destroyed?"

I eagerly tried to use my Vision.

It was a simple matter to do. I only needed to direct my energy to my left eye where the Vision was.

As I poured my energy into my eye, the tomoe started spinning.

"… Damn. What's with the overly cool animation? I can feel my inner chuuni riling up."

I observed the reflection of my eye in the mirror as it spun faster the more energy I put in.

I felt my Energy drain, and upon reaching 100 Energy, I suddenly lost my sight coming from my left eye.

"Huh? What's going on? Where's my familiar? Have I gone blind?!"

I could still see using my right eye. But everything coming from my left eye was black.

*Crack*

At that sound, I looked around and finally noticed a purple egg sitting on my bed. Is that my familiar?

*Crack crack*

It looked like it was about to hatch so I started going towards it.

*Crack BZZT*

I saw a small burst of electricity from my left eye. Then, the egg shattered.

I halted my steps in shock. I stared at the small, dark purple, round chick on my bed where the egg used to be.

It stared back at me.

I can tell because, the sight from my left eye was from its perspective.

In my right eye, I saw the bird. In my left, I saw myself staring.

I felt dizzy all of a sudden.

"Uh, this is going to take some getting used to. But definitely useful."

The stare-off continued until the bird tilted its head and…

"Chirp chirp."

*Puchi*

I felt an invisible arrow pierce my heart.

'Ahh! What is this cute, smol creature?! Why do I want to hug and pet it so much?!'

As if sensing my desire to pet it, the bird started waddling towards me, towards the edge of my bed.

"AAAHHH! No! You were just hatched! You're too young to die!"

I dashed forward in order to save the bird, but my new sights disoriented me, causing me to trip. I face planted on my bed.

Luckily, I was able to arrive on time and safely catch the bird while avoiding smooshing it to death.

Unluckily, in my rush, I stubbed my pinky toe on the bedpost.

I don't know what hurts more, this or stepping on a Lego.

"FUUUUUUUU-DGE…"

I looked at the cute bird snuggling in my hands and changed my cursing at the last second.

"Ugh… At least you're alright… Wait, if you fell and died, couldn't I have just re-summoned you? Did I hurt myself in vain??"

*Tilts head and chirps*

"Haaa. You are lucky you are cute." I pet the little thing's head and it chirped in glee.

Although, I'm slightly disappointed that this bird doesn't seem combat capable or have high intellect.

'It will probably reach the original Oz's level once I start leveling it up. For now, I can't keep calling it "it"'

"What should I name you? Ah! How about 'Chirpy', since you like chirping so- Ow, ow! Okay, stop pecking me! It was a joke."

Maybe I was wrong. If it can understand me, it must be pretty smart.

"Hmm. Then, let's stick to your original name, but with a twist. From now on, your name shall be Ozvaldo von Kaminari! Oz for short. Welcome to the Family, Oz!"

"Chirp chirp!"

Later, I introduced Oz to my other family members by saying that he was my familiar that I summoned from the abyss using my eye.

They did not even question my reason, saying, "As expected of Kirari."

They welcomed him with open arms, especially my mom.

Because of his cuteness, Oz was a natural chick magnet (pun intended).

Of course, since he was my familiar, I did not let my mom pet him.

At least, not until she showed me that she deleted that picture from her phone.

She snatched Oz immediately afterwards, and started rubbing him on her cheek.

He chirped in protest and his eyes begged me for help.

'Sorry Oz. It's for the greater good. Hehehe. I can already tell that you will be a great addition to the family.'

It wasn't until later when I checked my flip phone that I found out, before deleting the picture, my mom had sent it to the family group chat.

I didn't expect it. I thought she was too honorable and naïve to do such a thing. Turns out, I was the naïve one and Oz's sacrifice earlier was wasted.

I couldn't help but say, "Outstanding move. Well played."

For those who don't know what a chuuni is:

Chūnibyō or Chuunibyou: A Japanese colloquial term typically used to describe early teens who have grandiose delusions, who desperately want to stand out, and who have convinced themselves that they have hidden knowledge or secret powers

I couldn't come up with an original and better name so I just changed 'Ozvaldo von Hrafnavines' to 'Ozvaldo von Kaminari'.

Also, I have combined the stats and mods for Skills and Vision since they are practically the same.

The method to unlock Visions will be explained later.
