Chapter 7 Things Change, yet stay the same

Gavin sat morose, his warning had not helped. Obi Wan and Qui Gon had heard his warning. They promised to watch out for any traps. Qui Gon had said he was too old to change his ways but he would be careful of any tricks.

The fight proceeded much the way the movies had portrayed it. The change came at the end. Instead of Maul simply killing Qui Gon, the jedi master saw the teap at the last second. Even as Maul delivered the deathblow, Qui Gon cut Maul in half. He took his enemy with him rather than risk his Padawan falling as well.

As shown, Obi Wan had honored his Masters last request and taken Anakin on as a padawan learner. Anakin, when he came to the temple, was a mess. Well, past the age that most came to the temple, he was having trouble fitting in. His history as a slave didn't help. He had a temper and would frequently fight other younglings who he thought were insulting him. Impatient and arrogant, he showed a facade to the world.

Gavin approached him, and they fought at first. Gavin was persistent, and eventually, the two became friends. Anakin taught Gavin about droids. The tow could frequently be seen taking apart and putting druids back together. Usually followed by a Temple Gaurd chasing them through the halls for destroying the temple property. Followed by a lecture from Obi Wan Yoda or both about how they have to set an example for the rest of the Younglings.

Ahsoka bonded with Anakin much the same as she had bonded with Gavin and could often be found involved in whatever scheme the two boys were up to.

Master Yaddle had gone missing shortly after the official ceremony was held to honor Qui Gon. She was never found, but Gavin knew who was responsible.

Dooku would pay when it was time. Not from revenge. Gavin knew better than to fall in that trap. Instead, he would bring Dooku to justice. He would love to see Palpatine's face if Gavin was able to turn the separatists against Dooku.

Master Yoda had officially accepted him as a Padawan and was teaching him everything he knew. While not able to go on adventures as much as Obi Wan and Anakin Yoda, would make time once or twice a year to get away from the temple and take missions.

These ranged from diplomatic missions to investigations into various crimes. Yoda even once took Gavin to Endor. sitting on its forest moon, Yoda turned to Gavin. "Connected we all are, feel the force and how it binds us together. Luminous beings are we." Gavin meditated on that moon for a week. Yoda then announced that this was a vacation and spent the rest of the time interacting with the Ewoks.

Gavin enjoyed himself and learned all he could, but something escaped him. On Illum, he found an azure Kyber crystal. He built his own lightsaber, but it was not yet complete. Master Yoda asked about the second crystal spot, and Gavin answered honestly.

"I feel another crystal calling me. It was not on Illum."

"Interesting," Yoda said in response. "Guide you, the force will to this second crystal."

On a less successful note, Gavin tried to change the way the order thought. Yoda seemed open to the changes. Even Obi Wan and Plo Koon seemed to get why change was needed. Mace Windu and others who supported him, however, thought that things were fine as they were and did not need some kid changing a system that has worked for hundreds of years.

Gavin tried to show how they were cutting themselves off from the force, but Windu told him that he did not know what he was talking about. Master Windu was not a bad man, but he was arrogant. Gavin could see the arrogance and attachment to the Republic.

Gavin tried for years to change his mind, but he refused to budge. Palpatine wad hanging around Anakin more and more, Anakin was seeing him as a friend. Gavin tried to warn Anakin about getting attached to Palpatine, and it resulted in one of their few fights that they stopped talking to each other for a week.

TIMESKIP 21BBY

Gavin stood beside Master Yoda as they exited the shuttle onto Dromuund Kaas of all places. Gavin had shown his mastery of the force skill with the lightsaber, and the council believed him to be ready for his final trial.

"Not always black and white are events in this world," Yoda said, gazing out. "On this world are many dark side tombs, but there is also a light side tomb seek it out. When you have found it, return to me and tell me what you have learned." Yoda then reentered the shuttle, leaving Gavin to the wilderness.

Gavin nodded towards the ship before entering the jungle. In the centuries, since the fall of the Sith Empire, their former capital had become overgrown. Poisonous snakes and insects vicous animals, all aggressive heavily influenced by the darkside that seemed to permeate the planet even after all these years you could feel the evil that had been done here.

Making his way to the Sith Tombs that towered over the jungle in blackened stone. Gavin found himself drawn along. A thousand voices call to him. Offers of power, threats of retribution, and requests to end their suffering. Voice after voice begged for his attention. Gavin was drawn ever onward to a certain tomb. In the ocean of noise, it was silent. Shining in the light side of the force, he saw peace instead of chaos.

"It has been a long time since I have spoken to anyone. My name is Kel'eth Ur." Gavin bowed his head in respect.

"I am Gavin a member of the Jedi order I was sent here to investigate the light that shown through the darkness of this world." Gavin responded politely.

"Indeed. I am glad my light still endures. Young one, will you hear my story?" Ur responded.
