Saffron Gym Challenge (Part 5)

As Alakazam appeared on the battlefield, Chuck couldn't help but take a step back as the overwhelming aura of the Psychic Pokemon was released onto the battlefield.

"This is different from the others," Chuck said and the ceiling beamed up.

Alakazam was shown to be at LV. 52... Chuck took a step back but his smile didn't falter.

"Rush at it with Bullet Punch!" Chuck ordered and Machoke shot forward, engulfed by a metallic light.

'Confusion,'

Machoke stopped in it's path, Chuck's smile faded as the Muscular Pokemon clenched it's teeth and put it's strong arms on it's head... The effects of Confusion lingering.

"Machoke!"

Machoke let out a scream as it collapsed on the ground, the previous exhaustion combined with the powerful Confusion attack- it gave Alakazam a victory in just one hit.

"Heh, you guys are good," Chuck muttered under his breath as Machoke was pulled back into it's Pokeball under the shocked gaze of the crowd.

LV. 50 was a mark of ascension, once your Pokemon hit LV. 50, they were in the rank of the Elites.

Chuck threw out an Ultra ball into the battlefield and it burst open, a bright blue light descending upon the ground in succession.

Blaziken was unleashed and as it let out a battlecry, the ground vibrated under intense force.

'LV. 51,'

Despite being at a lower level, The audience was sure a versatile Pokemon was going to give Alakazam a run for it's money.

"Blaziken, Start with Flame Charge!" Chuck ordered, eager to start the battle quickly.

Crimson flames wrapped around Blaziken's figure as it rushed toward Alakazam, the ground rattling as a clash between both Pokemon was imminent.

'Protect and Psybeam,'

A translucent barrier appeared in front of Alakazam and Blaziken smashed into it, web-like cracks spreading across the ground.

"Pull back!" Chuck ordered and Blaziken quickly made distance.

Alakazam stopped charging energy for Psybeam and Sabrina felt it was time to take charge.

'Alakazam, Move forward in a Psionic Charge and then spam Psybeam,'

Chuck sensed something was going to happen so he prepared.

"Swords Dance!" Chuck ordered.

Swords encircled Blaziken as it's speed as well as attacking power had been increased by a stage.

'Now!'

Alakazam moved forward, it's figure engulfed in psionic energy as it chased down Blaziken who had already started moving.

Alakazam fired off the first Psybeam toward Blaziken which the Pokemon quickly dodged.

"Heh, your telepathic links are a little annoying," Chuck said as he suddenly felt that was not the only Psybeam - his instincts kicked into overdrive.

"Keep dodging!" Chuck called out and Blaziken nodded, just as it finished, another beam of Psionic energy tore through the air only for Blaziken to dodge it once again.

'Psychic,'

Blaziken's body was wrapped by a pink psionic energy that held it tightly.

'Pull it close to you and aim a Spear of Revelation,'

As Blaziken's body neared Alakazam, Chuck's eyes widened in surprise as a huge spear made from Psionic energy was being formed.

"They plan on finishing it fast huh?" Chuck muttered under his breath.

"Flamethrower!" Chuck called out.

Sabrina had already expected this.

'Protect!'

The familiar translucent barrier came to life once again in front of Alakazam, the raging hot flames produced by Blaziken were abruptly blocked and Chuck for the first time in the battle lost his edge.

"3 moves simultaneously!" He cried out, he was clearly suprised... This couldn't be happening, could it?

The audience was agape and at the edge of their seats.

Chuck for the first time in the battle wasn't able to retaliate, his eyes were forced shut as wind billowed within the battlefield.

As the spear of psionic energy detonated, a sense of quietness encircled the entire gym and then there was a thud.

Alakazam exhibited a sigh as Blaziken slumped against the ground, it was at that moment that Sabrina had won ownership of the Gym...

[Pallet Town]

Alex sat on his couch with Sam as he turned off the television.

"Fuck," Alex said.

"What happened?" Sam asked.

"That battle... Was as cold as fuck," Alex said, "I mean I was rooting for Sabrina the whole time but at the point that Chuck was dominating, I started feeling a little doubtful,"

It was true, Despite Chuck losing the first round- he has bounced back quickly and won the second round only for Sabrina to beat him with an even more powerful Pokemon- Alakazam.

The battle also made Alex a little bit doubtful, it was only a year before he became a trainer and he had burned out a month already... If Sabrina was this strong, then he had to make even greater preparations.

"You're right, that was a great gym battle," Sam said and sighed, "It's a good thing that Sabrina won though, now my Starter will be able to beat her,"

Alex frowned, Sam planned to start out with a Sneasel and despite a Sneasel being a versatile Pokemon, he couldn't help but feel angry that Mark was underestimating Sabrina.

"Ah, so as thanks for helping me out with that shift, Here's a Geodude," Sam said while handing Alex a Pokeball, "It was newly caught so It'll be easy to tame,"

Alex collected the Pokeball and narrowed his eyes at Sam.

"How was your trip?" Alex asked.

"It was good I guess but I'm soon going to have to go on another one," Sam replied, "You see, I got hooked,"

"Hooked as in how?" Alex asked and stretched his legs

"I mean I got a girlfriend silly," Sam replied and Alex's eyes lit up in surprise.

"Whoa, what's her name?" Alex asked intrigued.

"Ah, I have her number saved over here- I'm gonna meet Julia in Viridian city for a date next week Saturday," Sam replied.

"Good luck bro," Alex said.

He didn't know why but he felt different, he felt jealous in a way- he was the one that was the otherworlder here, he was supposed to get a girlfriend quicker than Sam but the fact that he was slowly being left behind was annoying.

But Alex knew that chasing romantic interests mindlessly would result in quite a lot of lagging in his training, ultimately he decided to continue along with building a slow paced relationship with his boss.
