'What a monster! Thank goodness she's just a Chikorita though...' Isaac thought.
"Chikorita! Use Sunny Day and follow it up with Grassy Terrain!" Karl threw his finger out shouting his order.
"Chi!!" She responded as the Heat Rock slung around her neck in a small pouch began to glow as she gathered fire energy around her body.
Ava immediately used [Celebrate!] without Isaac's order as that was what she was ordered to do after defeating a pokémon in the woods. She jumped into the air doing a somersault before disappearing into a wrapped present.
"Wait wha-" Isaac was dumbfounded and he facepalmed and shook his head as the Eevee popped out of the box with a proud and triumphant pose, completely engrossed in her success.
Scattered squeals could be heard from onlookers as some girls couldn't contain themselves at Ava. Other more serious trainers were laughing and making comments amongst themselves and pointing periodically.
Isaac looked around at the group that had gathered, noticing the crowd for the first time as his face grew red with embarrassment, and shook his head once again, "Ava!!!" He hissed stamping his feet and throwing his fists down.
"Vee..?" She said confused, turning her head to look at her trainer.
"Use Tail Whip and follow up with Wish! You did great Ava!" Isaac ordered as she perked up, turning around as a large artificial sun was created by Chikorita. It raised into the air a dozen meters as it brightly illuminated the dark field.
Isaac stared around in astonishment, 'It's like it's freaking noon again!' He pondered as Ava swung her butt in the air wagging her tail around. Chikorita was affected by the move but ignored the effects as she stomped her foot against the ground as lush blades of grass and flowers spread across the field.
Ava bowed her head as her wish rose into the air before disappearing in the form of a star. Isaac immediately returned her to her pokéball and threw Artorious' pokéball returning him to the field.
"Chikorita! Use Leech Seed followed by Ingrain!" Karl shouted as she swung her leaf in a large circle as three seeds were flung into the air and landed on the back of Artorious.
"Artorious! Quick! Hit her with all you got! Peck!" Isaac shouted as he roared proudly hustling as he charged toward the Chikorita.
"Quick, dodge, and then use Razor Leaf!" Karl interjected, Chikorita stopped gathering energy for Ingrain and avoided the hasty attack by Artorious.
"Sucker Punch!" Isaac grinned as Artorious pivoted on his hind leg and launched himself toward Chikorita as darkness swirled around his horn ramming into her side and knocking her into the air.
Chikorita corrected herself mid-air and launched three powerful spins of her leaf launching three razor-sharp clones that crashed into Artorious, kicking up dust, and obscuring him from view.
Gasps and idle chatter burst out from the sidelines by the spectators of the fierce battle.
A bright green flash penetrated through the dust cloud as Chikorita stumbled back down exhausted from taking the strong counter from Artorious.
Small sparkles appeared around her as the previous scuffs of battle were now gone. The dust cloud slowly scattered as Artorious was struggling to remain standing.
"Chikorita, use Tackle! Let's finish this!" Karl shouted as she rushed forward.
"Artorious! Brace yourself and counter with Peck!" Isaac ordered with a smirk flashing across his face. The Nidoran spread his hind legs and dug into the grassy terrain as a miniature wind current was gathering around his horn.
Chikorita jumped into the air and slammed headfirst against Artorious and both were knocked away from each other, however, a large star floated down and splashed against him as brighter sparkles danced around him as the corrected himself mid-air and landed on his feet.
Chikorita landed on her side and struggled as she tried to stand up, squinting her eyes as she glared at Artorious. The grass lit up as both pokémon regained energy before Artorious fell to the ground as the roots from the Leech Seed spread across his body nourishing his opponent.
"Razor Leaf!" Karl shouted, "It's over!"
"I agree! It is over! Artorious use Poison Sting!" Isaac countered as both Pokémon briefly absorbed energy before Artorious began charging forward, his horn shrouded in a purple haze as he darted left and right attempting to avoid the oncoming assault.
Chikorita took in additional energy waiting for the charging Nidoran to get closer as it began spinning the leaf on its head five times sending out a razor-sharp clone with each rotation.
Despite his best efforts, Artorious was unable to avoid any of the shuriken-like leaves as they pelted his body dealing considerable damage despite his resistance.
Pushing through the attack, the Nidoran pounced forward as his horn struck true hitting a critical strike against Chikorita's forehead and launching her away through the air, Artorious landed and spun through the grass facing his trainer as the small Grass Pokémon bounced against the ground and skid to a halt.
Immediately the Sunny Day dissipated and the Grassy Terrain began drifting away by the breeze, everyone know what this meant as the crowd began cheering and clapping.
"Tch!" Karl snapped his fingers as he clicked his tongue before returning Chikorita to her pokéball, "That was an amazing match, you've earned this rest..." He whispered as he returned her to his belt and crossed his arms smirking.
Isaac ran over to Artorious and slid on his knees, scooping the Nidoran into his arms, "That was awesome Art! Great job!"
"Pyu!" Artorious chimed proudly as he puffed his chest, Isaac rubbed the bridge of his head above his nose with his two fingers smiling at him proudly.
Isaac stood up and returned Artorious to his pokéball before dusting his knees off as some of the spectators came up and congratulated him or patted him on the back for a good battle.
After the scene settled, Isaac approached Karl and extended his hand once more, "Good fight, I learned a lot through this match. Thank you for stopping me from making the mistake of asking for the handicap."
Karl pursed his lips as he fought the urge to smirk as he rubbed his nose before firmly taking Isaac's hand and shaking it, "You have a good sense about you when battling, trust your instincts and make sure you bond with your Pokémon when training. You have a bright future ahead of you young man."
Isaac nodded and thanked him once again before being spun around by Karl and shoved away, "Now head back to the Lobby, once they've finalized everything they'll call you back one final time."
Isaac spun the top half of his body halfway around as he waved to Karl one last time as he returned to the PokéCenter. Inside he returned to Nurse Joy and handed in his team to get healed. He looked around at the reduced number of people inside the center and checked his Pokétch to see that it was after seven o'clock in the evening.
'What diligent members of the Pokémon Association to be working after normal business hours!' Isaac chuckled to himself as he found an empty seat and leaned back.
Adrenaline was still pumping through his body as he felt his ears pounding. Isaac stared at his visor as he went to raise it to the top of his head when he noticed the notifications in the bottom corner with a bright five notifications.
As he thought about it all five notifications appeared on his screen.
『Abnormality Detected! Initiating System Update!』
『System Update Completed!』
『Pokémon Information Screen Updated!』
『Quest Received!』
『Quest Completed!』
'Another System Update..?' He thought. As Isaac went to open the Quest Screen Nurse Joy approached him.
"Mr. Firenze, they are ready for you now. Please follow me."
Isaac raised the visor and stood up as he followed her down the hallway he first went down and returned to the same conference room where the three siblings sat joined by Karl.
He was led to the same chair he sat in before Nurse Joy gave one last bow and departed the room. Placed in front of him was a small container that held three pokéballs and two metallic cases were on both sides of the container.
"Congratulations Mr. Firenze, you've successfully become an Official Trainer of the Pokémon Association!"
