Sad and Painful memories

Sighing with relief, Eduardo crossed the part between them and enveloped her in a hug. He could feel her flinching but ignored it anyway. While he stared at her quietly before, Eduardo couldn't say that he was not hurt by her actions. He was astonished at her behaviour and to be frank, was very annoyed. He had thought he did something that annoyed her earlier before? Was it the money he offered to her and her guardian that had offended her.

It took him time to assemble all he gave her before finally relying on the fact that, indeed, it was the money he gave them that made him receive these cold questions from her. But now thinking of what she had just confessed, all his worries had been washed away.

Breaking the hug, she asked "What are you doing here? How did you find me?"

"Let's just say I followed where my heart led me to," he replied.

"And your heart leads you here?" she said with a smile forming on her face.

"What can I say, you stole my heart." he said, giving her a wink. His smile was disarming and infectious.

This made her blush and her cheeks turned red. She offered him a seat and vanished to the kitchen to get him something to drink. Eduardo sat there looking around the room. This room almost fit the cage of his dog.

How can a human being feel comfortable living in a place like this? Well, of course, not like she said she was comfortable living there. This room reminded him of his old days when he used to live in poverty.

The days that he used to be laughed at, bullied, mocked and even considered an animal. How he used to be beaten up by some bullies which he always hated to call seniors. How he and Drake would go home with the only school attire they had soaked in blood.

How he used to walk from shop to shop and house to house to look for something which could be fixed in order to be paid a little amount to fend for himself. How he used to eat just once a day because his parents didn't have enough money to buy enough food for them all.

He recalled how he would weep in the absence of his parents. How he would put a hand on his mouth, trying to muffle his cries. How he would shut his eyes and sob in his hands silently.

All those painful and sad memories, which he never forgot, had stayed with him all these years. They had thought him not to be cruel to others, or boast to them because he had nothing too before.

Now comparing those days to his days now, who is he to say that life is not fair. Just as he was commemorating his new happy days, Carissa emerged from the kitchen with a tray in hand. He stood up to assist her but was not even allowed to take a step.

Sitting down, she asked, "Do you feel comfortable in a place like this?"

"Yes, no need to worry. I've lived in a place much worse." he replied.

"I don't get you?" she said, raising a brow.

"Do I have to tell my story now?"

"That is if you want to."

"Well then, let's postpone it for another time. Right now would not be good." he said and sighed. Carissa looked deeply into his eyes but saw nothing in them but tiredness.

"You look faint." she said.

He nodded his head simply. He knows it himself and could feel his eyes burning.

"That's because I haven't had enough sleep for some days now."

"Why."

"I've been busy with company affairs." he lied. "But we shouldn't worry about that. I want to know more about you."

"What exactly do you want to know?"

"Everything."

Drake kept pacing back and forth, unable to sit. He was scared something might happen to Jessica and his child. How come he didn't notice that she had become pale? He kept blaming himself for some unnecessary reasons till Olivia rushed in.

"Where is she?" she asked panting like someone who just won a race.

"Emergency unit room. I don't know what is taking them so long." he replied with gritted teeth. He had been there for almost half an hour and had not heard any news from the doctors, something surely was wrong.

Just then Alonso walked in to lay insults and blames on Drake but got interrupted when the doctor came out. He had a smile on his face which calmed both Olivia and Alonso down a bit but didn't have any effects on Drake. Immediately, he rushed to the doctor's side before he could even speak.

"How is she? What is wrong with her? Did anything happen to the baby?" Drake bombarded the doctor with questions. This made the doctor smile even wider than before. He placed a hand on the concerned father's shoulder to calm him down.

"She's alright, it was nothing serious. She's just not eating well which made her feel dizzy and look very pale. And you know, as a pregnant woman, if you feel weak, the baby also feels the same. I will just advise you to make her eat well in order for her and the baby to stay strong and healthy." he explained.

They all sighed with relief at the doctor's words but Drake still didn't feel the least satisfied. It seems he had more questions in his pocket so he let them out.

"If it was just that, then what took you so long in there." he asked.

"Oh, about that. I was just asking her how she was feeling before she fainted and explained the reason to her. She however, told me she was worried about something which made her feel weaker but was okay now." Hearing this, Drake's eyes widened at the thought of causing Jessica pain. He had made her worry about him, what if that lead to her miscarriage.

He wanted to rush into that room to plead with her to forgive him but contained himself and left that for later. How could his own selfish acts lead to this. Why didn't he think of that before running out of the house?
