Chapter 13
Eve's POV
I'm... I'm drowning.
I'm drowning again.
The fcking finger of realization pokes its way through my fears and makes me realize the truth.
Ang katotohanan. Anong katotohanan ang pinagsasabi ko?
Ang katotohanang walang darating para sa akin. Na walang liligtas sa akin.
Pinipilit kong itulak ang tubig na nakapalibot sa akin para lang iabot ang bunganga ko sa itaas ng tubig para habulin ang aking hininga. Nahihirapan na akong huminga. Gumagalaw nga ang katawan ko pero hindi ko na maramdaman ang mga ito.
The water snugs in around me again.
D-dito ba talaga ako mamamatay? Dito ba magtatapos ang lahat?
Para bang... para bang may kung anong humihila sa akin pababa sa tubig.
Nang magsimulang mapagod ang katawan ko ay hindi na ako nagsumikap pang lumangoy at hinayaan nang mangyari kung ano man ang dapat na mangyari.
Maybe it's fate.
Fate who's always so unfair to me.
Sinasabi niya na ba na kailangan ko nang sumuko at matulog nalang? Gusto na ba niyang magpahinga ako?
I continued to sink down the water.
Kung gaano man ito kalalim ay hindi ko na binigyang pansin and I didn't give a damn to know about it either. For some, whenever you're in the verge of life and death, life seems to be more important to you.
But for me.. it seems nothing anymore. Life is.. nothing.
I flinched and began to realize that I was sleeping. I was just dreaming!
It's the same dream again!
Minulat ko na ang mga mata ko nang maramdaman ko ang presensya ni Ate Cash. Nakita kong nakaupo siya sa tabi ko sa kamang hinihigaan ko habang nagbabasa ng libro.
She's sitting at the edge of my bed while reading a book about how criminals think with her queen-like poise and presence. No wonder I woke up.
"You were dreaming," bati niya kaya naman napahawak ako sa dibdib ko para huminga ng malalim
"I guess,"
"That's a cold sweat and you were breathing hard," dagdag niya at inabutan ako ng face towel kaya naman nagpunas na nga ako ng pawis ko
"Haha. Halata nga po eh," sagot ko
"Apparently, you fainted when you touched the vessels," sabi niya kaya naman natawa ako
"Wala pong laman ang tiyan ko. Pasensya na sa storbo," sagot ko
"That's why I said apparently, right? You'll be having dinner with me tonight so make sure to inform your team so they'd stop worrying about you" natigilan ako sa sinabi niya dahilan kung bakit din siya natigilan at tinignan ako
"Why were you shocked?" tanong niya
Bumangon na ako't umupo.
"How long was I asleep?" tanong ko kaya naman tumingin siya sa orasan niya
"For about 7 hours, I guess. It's already 9 in the evening," sagot niya kaya naman kumunot ang noo ko
"I was just sleeping for 7 hours. Worry? Why would they worry about me?" tanong ko dahilan kung bakit niya ako tinignan
"Why are you asking about such a thing, Eve?" tanong niya kaya naman nagtaka ako
Tumahimik ako sandali at nag-isip. Agad na akong tumawa dahil hindi ko parin naman naintindihan.
"Nagjo-joke lang naman ako eh," sagot ko habang kinakamot ko ang batok ko
Pero hindi ko naman talaga alam kung bakit.
Bumugtong hininga na siya saka sinarado ang librong binabasa niya at tumayo na.
Her queen-like poise and presence disappeared and it immediately became sinister as she looked at me like she's so pissed.
"They worry because they care. They care like I do so be sure to take good care of yourself so you won't cause other people trouble again"
"I'm sorry. I just.. I don't have any explanation. I'm just sorry. Don't be angry," sagot ko kaya naman bumugtong hinga siya ulit at hinala ako sa balikat para yakapin ako
"I'm angry because you're not taking good care of yourself and please don't take those kids so lightly. Even if it's only been a month, I'm sure you've been pretty close already. They see, talk and walk with you everyday. You eat on the same table and you share the same house. You're already an important existence to them, you're a teammate" huminga ako ng malalim kaya naman kumalas na siya sa pagkakayakap sa akin at pinat niya na ako sa ulo
"Inform your team that you've recovered and will be eating with a friend. I'll wait for you at the car. This incident has caught the eyes of the elders" sabi niya kaya naman hindi na ako sumagot
Kinuha ko na ang phone ko at nag-simulang mag-type.
They worry because they care? Is it my fault that they're worrying?
To Anna: I'm fine already. The doctor said I was too tired. Did I shock you?

Napaisip ako. I was just asleep... I mean... Am I really that worrisome?
To Anna: I'll be having dinner with a friend, so please eat without me.

Someone's worried about me.
I never knew that this is what it would feel like for people to worry about you. I don't have parents anymore after all.
To Anna: Sorry for making you worry and... thanks.

Tumayo na ako at nagsimulang mag-stretching.

"She should have known better to not tire herself, Cashmiere. I'm so disappointed in you. You're in charge of keeping her here, so you better do it right!" sigaw ng isang elder kay Ate Cash kaya naman agad na akong nag-bow para humingi ng tawad
"I apologize, elders. I don't have any excuses" sagot ko
"Give me a reason why you were overworking yourself! Were you doing this on purpose?! We won't give you a chance on trying to make yourself pitiful to the eyes of the school!" sigaw ng isa pa kaya naman huminga ako ng malalim
"She's trying to get Cashmiere's sympathy! Of course, we should have known from a long time ago! Cashmiere's still naive! She even place this prisoner in a class and not just a normal one, the Ravens at that!"
Sinigurado kong hindi ako magpapalabas ni isang katiting na blood lust sakanila.
I'm calm and collected, really. Pero when the time comes when they try to insult people who are to me, I just can't take it. Specially when it comes to Ate Cash whom I owe my life to, I can't help but feel so frustrated.
I couldn't possibly disagree to what they're saying and I couldn't act reckless while I'm in their territory..
