9 Chapter 9: Life in Foosha

Shanks and Kai both walked back into the bar and saw that Luffy was asking Ace and Sabo to join them and they were still saying no. Kai had an idea and walked up to them while Garp was looking at him curiously. Garp may act like an idiot most of the time but he was actually pretty smart and had a great intuition. He felt that this kid was weird and kind of special. He watched the kid walking up to his grandson and decided not to interfere.

"Hey guys, can I join too? I don't have a home anyway so I need a place to stay." Kai asked the kids. Ace and Sabo looked like they were considering it. They were 9 at the time while Kai was 12 they thought that maybe he could help them because he was a bit older.

"Are you strong?" Ace finally asked. He was still wary of the new kid but if he was strong then he thought he should let him come.

"How about we make a bet? Me and Luffy against both of you. If we win then we both join if we lose then you guys can ask one favour of us. You could ask us to never join for example." Ace realized what Kai meant as he could make sure Luffy would never be able to ask to join them again "Deal!"

In the forest.

Both Ace and Sabo were on the ground panting. Sabo had a pipe in his hand and Ace was just using his bare fists. They both had small bruises on their faces and had clearly lost. Luffy was lying down beside him as at some point during the fight he got mad at Kai for hitting Sabo and Ace and started fighting him too. Kai didn't use his devil fruit at all. They were just normal kids after all they may be strong but he has been training his whole life and he was pretty good at martial arts. After the fight both Luffy and Kai were allowed to join Ace and Sabo and they all started becoming good friends.

Shanks and Kai were in the forest sparring. In this last year Kai had gotten a lot stronger physically and his swordsmanship progressed very fast. He was always a very quick learner as his brain was genetically enhanced. Shanks was surprised at the kid's progress and proud that he was such a great teacher, until Kai told him that his dad did experiments on him to modify his brain and that Shanks had nothing to do with it. That day's training was triple the usual for Kai. Anyways, all of a sudden they heard that Luffy was drowning from the villagers. Both of them rushed towards the ocean and Shanks started swimming while Kai was standing on the shore watching. Shanks picked up Luffy and a sea king was about to bit his arm when a gust of wind blew Shanks and Luffy 10 meters away. Shanks looked over at Kai and yelled after he used haoshoku haki to knock the fish out. "What was that for?!"

"I didn't know if you could beat it! It was a pretty big fish!" Kai laughed as he knew that Shanks shouldn't be in danger but he wasn't taking any risks. When they got back to shore Shanks gave Luffy his hat and they talked for a bit about how Luffy was gonna be the pirate king. Kai walked over after they finished.

"I'll help you out then Luff." Kai said with a smile on his face as he had one more person to help out in the future. "Thanks Kai!"

Kai waited for Luffy to leave and go show Ace and Sabo his new hat before turning to Shanks. "When are you going ginger?"

"Nothing gets past you does it kid? I'm leaving in a week. I'll need to say goodbye to Makino-chan tonight." he winked after that last part.

"Maybe I should ask Makino-nee if I can sleep at her house tonight? I'll tell her that your training was too hard and that I couldn't be alone."

"You brat! I'll kill you!" Shanks yelled as Kai laughed.

Kai finished laughing before looking at Shanks seriously. "Ginger. I need to ask."

"What?"

"For you, do the curtains match the drapes? Are they ginger too?"

*Smack* You could hear the smack Kai got to the back of the head from across the island.

"Wahahaha! I guess I'll never know!" Kai looked up at Shanks before seeing Shanks pull out a long bag.

"Hey kid, this is for you." As he tossed the bag over towards Kai.

Kai pulled off the covering to reveal a katana in its sheath. Kai smiled as he could tell this was a good sword.

"Kashu."

Kai looked up at Shanks, shocked. "It's a meito?" A huge smile appeared on his face as he nodded.

Kai smiled "Thanks Shanks. For everything."

"No problem kiddo. I'll be waiting for you and Luffy in the new world."

"Hey ginger. Don't tell anyone this. If you hear about a Fujin, that's me."

"Not a very original name kid"

"Yea the author is a lazy piece of shit who can't be original so he just made my alias the japanese god of wind."

"Wow what an asshole. I hate that guy."

"He saved you from losing an arm."

"... I mean I love that guy."
