10 Chapter 10: Help me out

Kai was walking towards Party's bar and heard a commotion inside. As he walked in he saw someone standing over Shanks and pouring a beer on him.

"Pfft." Everyone's heads snapped towards Kai who said. "I love the effort ginger, and personally I like the new look, but I'm not too sure how Makino-nee would feel." Kai said while acting like he was in deep thought pondering something "I think she would prefer wine rather than beer." He nodded sagely like he just discovered the secret of the void century before sitting down in a booth with Luffy and making sure Luffy didn't charge the bandits for being mean to Shanks. All the bandits looked at him confused for a moment before forgetting about him. While all of the red hair pirates were trying not to laugh with some letting out a few giggles. Makino was still staring at the bandits angrily but failed at suppressing the smile on her face as she giggled a bit. Shanks was biting his lip so hard it started bleeding as he looked down so the bandit couldn't see that he was trying not to laugh.

Eventually the bandit left the bar and it erupted into laughter. "Dahahaha! What the fuck kid?" Kai looked at him and sighed "I always wanted to be in a bar fight. I thought I could make you laugh." He shook his head as a hand came from behind him and smacked him. "Not in my bar!"

"Sorry Makino-nee. Please forgive me." He gave her puppy dog eyes and she started to giggle. "Just don't do it again." Causing Shanks to look over at Kai. Then he looked at Makino and asked. "Why does it never work when I do it? It always works for the kid!" she giggled again and said "You're not as cute." Shanks looked like he had just been struck by lightning as the whole bar started to laugh at him. Kai walked up and patted him on the shoulder.

"Maybe one day ginger." Kai said as he walked out of the bar. Shanks was still dumbstruck until Luffy ran out of the bar and went to attack the mountain bandits. He wondered whether he should just let Kai deal with it but decided to go save Luffy as he wanted to show off to Makino a bit...I mean he wanted to save the child in danger. He walked out with his crew to go find Luffy.

Luffy was much stronger by now than he was in canon. He had almost learned how to use his gomu-gomu no pistol punch as his first move but he was still way weaker than the bandits. Kai watched him attack them and he actually managed to knock one of them out before they realized what was happening and were about to kill them. Just then Shanks and his crew showed up and stopped them just like in the manga. Shanks explained to Luffy that he didn't want to fight them because there was no point.

"... and because I didn't want Makino-chan to be mad at me for ruining her bar." Shanks finished.

"Whipped!" a voice was heard in the air but no one could see who spoke. It was Kai while he was invisible. Everyone started laughing.

"Who said that?!" Shanks yelled and everyone started whistling and looking away.

6 days later

Shanks was leaving and everyone was sending him off. They had all become friends and were sad to see him go. Kai walked up to Shanks to say goodbye and ask.

"You're not going to tell Ace?" Shanks widened his eyes for a second. "You're too smart for your own good. You also know way too much kiddo."

"Well I am a genius after all."

"I'm not gonna say anything. He doesn't even care about his dad, he would probably just hate me cause I knew him."

"Well he stopped complaining about his dad so much after I told him about mine. So you never know. Wahaha."

"You won't tell him when I'm gone right?"

"Of course not ginger."

Shanks smiled and said his final goodbyes to Kai as he finally set off sailing. Kai walked back to everyone.

"Hey Pipe boy, Daddy's boy, where's the rubber kid?" Kai asked Sabo and Ace and they shook their heads indicating that they didn't know.

"Great. Look at what Shanks gave me." He said as he pulled out his new sword and showed them. He didn't want Luffy around as he didn't trust him with sharp objects. Especially after he cut his face on purpose leaving a scar.

"Not bad airhead." Ace said as he admired the sword. After Kai told Ace about his own dad and how Roger was a pretty good father compared to his own Ace had matured a lot quicker and Kai started calling him Daddy's boy to tease him. He just called Sabo pipe boy because he found it funny that he would use pipes to fight.

"Do you know when gramps comes back?" asked Kai as he had started both calling him gramps and treating him like his real grandpa during his year on the island.

"He should be back soon. He always comes around this time." said Sabo as he finished looking at the sword Kai got.

"Thanks."

A week later

"Hey gramps! I need to talk to you." Kai told Garp when he came back to the island.

"Bwahahaha Did you mist the fists of love while I was gone?" Garp asked as Kai quickly shook his head. He both admired and was scared of Garp's strength.

"I need to talk to you alone." Kai said seriously.

When they were alone together Kai said. "Hey gramps, I think of you like my real grandpa, you know that right."

Garp nodded his head as they had gotten pretty close over the last year. Garp knew that he was a lot more mature for his age then he should be and used to be wary of him and his intentions. But after a while he warmed up to him. He could also tell that he had no bad intentions for the three kids and him with his intuition and by using kenbunshoku haki to sense his intentions and emotions. After observing him for a year he knew he was a good kid and thought of him almost like an adoptive grandkid of his.

Kai was very serious. "I wanna say a couple of things, but before that. I haven't told you about where I came from right?" Garp nodded at him and Kai went on to tell him about his past. About his dad and who he was because Garp knew about germa and the Vinsmokes. He also started to understand a lot more about the kid and why he acted the way he did. He calculated everything and would never show his true strength to anyone other than Shanks and himself. He realized that if Kai's dad found out he was still alive it would be bad.

Kai wasn't scared of his father but he was scared of what would happen to Sanji and Reiju when Judge found out. He was also too lazy to deal with any assassins or bounty hunters he would have to face if his existence got out. He didn't want to deal with the annoying things and the unknown of what would happen if Germa was his enemy and how it would change the future. So he decided that once he left this island he would wear a mask and change his name. Which was why he told Shanks that he would be going by Fujin soon.

After hearing Kai's story, Garp was more than just shocked. He was baffled about a lot of things. He was shocked that Kai, who always seemed so happy and carefree, had such a bad childhood. He was also shocked at the resolve he had and his reasons for wanting to be strong. He respected the kid a lot more and wanted to help him out.

Kai then started explaining his reasons for telling Garp this. "I was wondering if you would adopt me and take me to the marines in a year. I want to get stronger so I can protect Ace, Sabo, Luffy and my family. I want to be like a guardian angel for them. I won't do everything for them but I want to be able to be strong enough to make sure they don't die if they get in a rough spot. I don't want to show my face and get found out because I don't know what would happen to Sanji and Reiju if that happened. I want to join the marines under the name of Fujin. But gramps, I can't be a marine forever. They can't go against Germa as they are supposed to protect them. I won't go past being a commander at most. I need to save my sister. That's the most important thing. Also most of the marines are brainwashed asshats like that magma admiral. I don't respect those kinds of people who bow their heads to the celestial dragons. That's one of the reasons I like you gramps. The government is rotten and the marines have become the dogs of the government. The celestial dragons are trash and most of them deserve to be killed. You know what they do to the slaves, so you know what I mean. I need to get stronger to help out the people I care about and everyone else that I can. I want to be a marine to get stronger and protect the people who really need protection. When I quit I'm going to help everyone achieve their dreams. But I can't do that without enough strength. I want you to train me so I can do this. I need your help gramps. Please."

Garp took a minute to think over everything. He would rather Kai truly be a marine but he understood every point he made was valid. Many marines were bad people and the celestial dragons were the scum of the earth. He also realized that if he wanted to stop Germa and his father Kai would have to go against the marines. He understood that Kai being a marine forever wasn't possible for him. He wanted to help this kid and he was happy when he heard that Kai wanted to be adopted by him as he thought of him like his own grandchild already. After some more deliberation he replied.

"Alright, I'll help you out kid." Kai smiled at this.
