Vernon was a chill mate. He didn't go above and beyond, and he wasn't stingy with his friendship either. After coming to realize that Malia was beyond struggling in classes, he joined in on Lydia's study sessions in the library after school. While everyone knew he didn't need the reviews, Malia didn't, and it definitely made her feel better that she wasn't the only one struggling.
However, Boyd had a tendency he gained from years of being in the background. He's very observant. It took him less than a school week to realize Erica doesn't have seizures anymore, Malia growled when she got upset, and we definitely weren't ordinary students. The twins had come to school once during this week before never showing up again, and Boyd realized they had to be a part of whatever secret we had. Vernon just watched until the weekend came.
Saturday, however, was different. The full moon was coming up in the next few days, and he could definitely tell things were awry at the Grey mansion. Instead of a usual hangout, he watched Erica come running in somewhat panicking while giving herself a self motivational speech. Malia was calm but definitely way more moody than normal. But the most out of place thing was that every now and again, he could notice flashing gold eyes from Erica and Carrie.
A part of him wanted to question Oliver about what was happening. However, he stopped himself. This group of people, whatever their secret may be, has never deliberilately hidden it from him. Even when he saw the schools French teacher walk into the place and towards what looks like a panic room with a bunch of chains and candles.
He already realized that at this point, whatever was going on around him already included him, and this group never shied away from it. That brought him both anxiety and relief.
"Yo Boyd, I think it's about time you head on home and get some sleep, man. You're too tense."
At some point, Oliver had come to his back without him knowing and startling him a bit. However, he had so many questions about his new friends, but it wasn't in his personality at this point to be outspoken.
"I know you have questions, but how about coming back on Monday night. Let's say around 7 yea?"
He never had a chance to deny or confirm. Instead, it just felt like he was on autopilot. Sunday was over before he recognized, and Monday was there. He went through classes and didn't even feel like going home, but he was patient enough. After what felt like a small eternity, school ended, his homework was finished, and it was a little after 6.
He didn't have a car, so he got on his bike and rode to Oliver's. The Grey mansion tonight was than normal. The once vibrant mansion tonight stood there as if separate from the world. His heart was pounding as he made his way to the door.
knock knock knock
Relief spread through his body as he knocked, and he stood there in anticipation. It didn't take too long before the vibrant Lydia Martin opened the door and greeted him. Lydia was definitely a top-tier woman with both brains and beauty. Especially seeing how she managed to become queen bee at school and maintain both social and academic high standing and dominance.
"Hey, Boyd, you're here! Hurry up they're about to start any minute now, and I don't want to miss my first moon."
Without getting a word off, he was pulled into the mansion and semi dragged down to the panic room he saw earlier that weekend. Except this time, he was inside of it. The doors opened to reveal a big room with some layer of black powder on the ground and incense burning. On the ceiling was a giant skylight, and through it, he could see the freshly rising full moon.
Looking deeper into the room, he saw Oliver chaining up the three girls that normally hang around his place. He had questions, but it didn't seem to be the time to ask them. Yet, that didn't stop Lydia from firing away to the school teacher and other chick with a gun standing on the side.
"So how does this work exactly?"
His ears perked up as the woman explained, The reflection of the full moon was always a wolf's favorite hunting time, as during a full moon, they had more light to hunt. Well, that trait passed on to them, and during full moons, they would awaken their hunting urges. With a somewhat understanding of the open secret in this house, Boyd was beginning to look forward to tonight's main event.
Lydia stayed on the side asking questions after question, the barrier, the incense, the pack strength, and even werewolf families and genetics. He guessed her dating an Alpha would lead to her wondering if their k0ids would be werewolves too?
Oliver stood calmly in the room as he talked back and forth with the women, mostly Erica, to stabilize their moods. One of the twins walked close to Carrie and kept her occupied while the other twin kept his eye on the moon.
"It's starting," Ethan said as Aiden came to Oliver's right as he stopped talking to the girls.
"Old rules, you either beat your wolf or get beaten. Braeden, Malia first."
The woman, Braeden, walked over to a console and was about to unlock Malia's chains as Aiden spoke "Wait a minute! We didn't finish our show from last time. How about all three of them start, just to exercise the 'Big Guy' and show off for our firsties."
Lydia and Boyd seemed confused, but after Oliver looked at Lydia who seemed to say 'Please I'm here to be entertained' with her eyes, then just stepped back.
Ms. Morrell stepped forward breaking the powder as Oliver stepped out and came to us, before she reconnected it. After settling himself next to Lydia he said "You must have questions you want to ask, but trust me. Wait until morning and then we'll have a good talk Vernon. For now, just watch."
Taking his eyes off of the blonde, Vernon watched to ring only to see the twins taking off their shirts as the three girls started growling and their eyes lit up. Two sets of gold and one blue, yet that couldn't keep his attention as he and Lydia watched the twins become one, ugly, big guy. The girls found themselves no longer restrained as they made their way at the the twins.
Scratching, biting, eyes, throat, no matter where and how these girls were determined to just attack. When had Boyd ever saw such a scene. One hour turned to two turned to three as the twins steadily suppressed the girls. However a miracle happened around an hour. Malia took back her control and she could actually fight this monster.
She wasn't winning but to almost everyone's surprise after an hour the big guy never hit her again. Of course her nails barely broke his skin but it was still visible progress. Around that time, the twins and Oliver switched places and without turning into some huge guy, he still suppressed the three girls and even started teaching Malia combat skills using claws and fangs.
It wasn't until almost sun up that Erica finally stopped fighting. After tonight according to Oliver's words Malia graduated basics, but Carrie still needed a few more sessions, and Erica needed to accept herself.
Lydia enjoyed the process and finally got up to get ready for classes later. Once the room was emptied and clean, Boyd finally found himself sitting across from Oliver in his study. The two talked for almost an hour, before Oliver got to his point.
"Vernon, the bite is a gift. It can bring out the best or the worst in people. However, I believe in my vision so I'm here extending an offer to you. Would you like to join my pack?"
No one else in the mansion waited or stayed to see the results of their talk as they made their way to school. The first thing to take notice of, is that today for the first time since second grade, Vernon Boyd the third, missed a day of school.
The second being, Boyd was no longer a loner. Because from now on, he was a part of something much bigger than himself.
