In the stadium's most privileged area, Majime Yaoyorozu sat solemnly on a wooden chair positioned on a balcony that afforded her an excellent view of the fight. Squinting her eyes, she gripped the wooden armrests, maintaining her composure as she continued to observe.
"The contestant... Uzumaki Naruto," Present Mic, still hesitant, noticed the spectators' increasing indignation and anger towards Naruto. He glanced at his partner, who remained serious and silently watched the unfolding events. "Seeing that his opponent can't continue... He is he…"
"High!" All eyes turned to one place, and Present Mic paused as he observed Momo rising in the fighting arena. She struggled to her feet, clumsily standing up despite her injuries. "I can still..." The black-haired girl, once on her feet, wiped the blood trickling from her forehead with her right arm. Her hair was disheveled, and a dark bruise marked her cheek where she had received the last blow from her opponent. After cleaning the blood, she fashioned a piece of cloth into a makeshift headband, tying it around her forehead. "I can still fight," she declared, looking defiantly at Naruto, who sighed and regarded her again.
"You should have remained on the ground," the blonde commented dryly, hearing the irritating shouts from the spectators encouraging the girl. "Why are you smiling?" He questioned, perplexed by her smile, just like many others in the audience.
"It's just that... thank you," her words made Naruto raise an eyebrow in confusion. He wasn't alone; several others were also puzzled. "Thank you for treating me as your equal and not holding back," she added, raising her arms slightly, causing two metal spheres to materialize. She placed them on the ground while kneeling.
"In this world, it doesn't matter if you are a boy, girl, woman, or man; those things don't matter in a fight," Naruto stated, beginning to walk towards his opponent, who held the semi-spheres in each hand. "In the future, you'll face people who will push you to the brink and make you understand the true meaning of pain, only then will they kill you."
"You have a very bleak view of the world, Uzumaki-san," Momo remarked, watching as the blonde drew closer to her. She swallowed nervously and took a few steps back.
"Since I was a child, I've seen myself in the darkness. Instead of fearing it like many others... I accepted it and became a part of it," Naruto replied. With those words, he charged at the girl, extending his arm as if to catch her. However, she stepped back and collided the two spheres together, creating a blinding flash of light.
"The chlorate and magnesium create a flash of light," Momo thought, closing her eyes tightly and holding the sphere above her head. It produced a blinding flash that caused everyone in the stadium to shield their eyes. Naruto, in particular, struggled to react to this unexpected move by his opponent.
"I underestimated her," the shinobi muttered as he stepped back, closing his only exposed eye. He grunted, then cautiously reopened it, only to find a blur in his vision. Cursing himself, he listened intently to the approaching footsteps and the clatter of objects. Blind in one eye, the Uzumaki remained alert, relying on his acute hearing.
"Enhanced senses mean extreme sensitivity!" Momo approached Naruto wielding a metal rod. She attempted to strike him, but the blonde easily caught the bar. Frustration gripped Momo as she gritted her teeth. She realized that he could hear her every move, every step she took was a clue to his accurate tracking.
"It's over," Naruto declared as he effortlessly snapped the girl's weapon. He swung his fist where he thought she would be, but oddly, he only heard the shattering of glass. Momo had quickly discarded her jacket, revealing a dark sports bra underneath. She created a glass shield from her arms, and stepping back, she watched glass shards sail through the air. The determined teenager reacted swiftly, producing rubber plugs from her ears, which she inserted to dull her hearing.
"I can do it!" Momo seized two pieces of glass from the floor and scraped them together, producing a piercing screech that caused those nearby in the stands to cover their ears. Even Naruto, whose senses were honed by a lifetime as a ninja, couldn't escape the cacophony. He was left stunned, forced to cover his ears as well. "I can do it!" She created a rope extending from her abdomen and tied it to a heavy metal sphere formed from her chest. Fastening the rope to the steel piece, she began to spin, gaining momentum. With a cry of effort, she propelled the sphere towards Naruto.
Still disoriented and barely recovering his vision, the shinobi threw a punch that sent the steel ball hurtling back toward the girl. She dove to the ground to avoid being hit. Crawling on the floor, she tried to move, but her progress halted when Naruto stepped onto her back, pinning her down. "Not bad, girl. You surprised me," the bandaged blonde remarked as he firmly pressed down on her.
"You told me... that I have the potential to be the best... and you know..." Momo carefully retrieved a dark device with a red button from her pocket. She looked up at the shinobi and smiled. "You were right." She pressed the button, producing a click sound. Naruto raised an eyebrow and focused his gaze on the source of the click. What followed was the deafening explosion of a cannon positioned at the edge of the arena.
The cannonball struck the Uzumaki's chest directly, lifting him off the ground and separating him from his opponent. He skidded several meters, almost reaching the ring's edge. However, just a few centimeters from leaving the ring, the blonde planted his feet firmly on the ground. He remained motionless, head bowed, and the cannonball embedded in his chest. Slowly, it came loose and fell heavily to the ground, leaving thin lines of blood on the Uzumaki's wound. He stood his ground.
The entire stadium watched in anticipation, expecting the Uzumaki to eventually fall. To the disbelief and annoyance of many, the shinobi not only remained standing but also crouched down to pick up the metal sphere, playing with it by raising and lowering it.
"Without a doubt, you're impossible to take down," Momo admitted as she struggled to get up, holding her right arm in pain. She smiled bitterly, realizing her plan had worked when she saw the Uzumaki approaching, still unaffected by the projectile that hit his chest. Upon closer inspection, she noticed the wound appeared painful but not very deep. The mustached teenager showed no signs of fatigue or discomfort from the blow.
"Good plan," he acknowledged, coming to stand in front of the girl and dropping the cannonball heavily to the ground. He raised his right hand and lightly tapped her forehead, causing her to stumble back and ultimately fall out of the combat arena.
Momo silently lowered her head, realizing she had lost the match. She lay on her back, gazing up at the sky.
"Uzumaki Naruto is the winner!" Midnight's announcement was met with total silence in the stadium, to the discomfort of several.
"You've put up quite a fight, young Uzumaki," were the thoughts of All Might, who sat alongside some colleagues, his appearance gaunt and thin. He observed that people still harbored skepticism toward the teenage shinobi. "But that doesn't deter you, and maybe that's for the best. I also know that beneath that cold, indifferent, and perhaps dark exterior lies a good person who only seeks to do what's right." The sixth user of All for One smiled as he saw the Uzumaki extend a hand to help Momo to her feet.
"Great battle, ladies and gentlemen! Participant Yaoyorozu showed great strategy, although it didn't succeed, it was undeniably excellent! Now, with Uzumaki Naruto advancing from this preliminary, he will face Midoriya Izuku in about 10 minutes! I hope you're ready for that!" While the professional hero continued speaking, we returned to the battle arena where Momo extended her left arm and accepted the shinobi's help to stand up.
But he refrained from saying anything, maintaining his serious expression as he turned around to depart. In response, the young black-haired woman let out a disappointed sigh. "Hey, girl." Startled, Momo quickly raised her head and noticed that the Uzumaki had halted. "You did well," he stated without turning around, resuming his path toward the locker room, where he would wait for his next fight.
Smiling in response, the young Yaoyorozu couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment, knowing that she had earned at least a bit of respect from the shinobi. She walked at a slow pace, cradling her injured arm as she made her way to the infirmary for treatment. Despite the bruises, cuts, and the near broken arm she had suffered in the battle against the Uzumaki, she couldn't deny that...
...it had been worth the fight.
