Chapter 5: Spiral Power

March 15, Year 1,000 of the Mystic Calendar

Two days have passed since Keon finally gained access to his Cube World and Mystic Power. Just like what he had always planned, he worked really hard in his training

All of Keon's time was spent with his training. Every second count and his only rest were eating, sleeping, and when he fully used up all his mystic energy

Fortunately, Keon's hard work paid off. His control over his mystic energy steadily grew. He can now even use the energy to shoot object around three meters away from him

Of course, that is just raw mystic energy. He would only gain real power when he gained his mystic form that might possibly be today

After Keon trained for two days, he finally decided to attempt condensing his first-ever mystic form. He will buy the 'lottery ticket' using his mystic energy

Currently, Keon is sitting in front of the tree he was in two days ago. It became one of his training spots. He can use the area designed for the orphans to have their training but he chose not to because of a few reasons

That area was always packed with a lot of orphans, it was noisy in there, it would be harder to focus. Keon is also afraid that people would think that something is wrong with him as he has an initial Cube World bigger than most people, he can train for a longer period of time which might surprise them. Lastly, Keon is quite popular, the chance of people bothering him in public places is higher

Fortunately, since all the orphans connected to their Cube World, all of their time was also spent on training. Not many people bothered Keon for the past few days and he is ready to see the results of his training now!

Keon repeatedly took deep breaths while closing his eyes. His mind is currently inside his Cube World where the colorless energy was swirling around

Using Keon's will, he controlled his mystic energy and they entered the golden cube core located in the chest of his soul. Keon's Cube World shrinks the more mystic energy his core absorbs

Keon only decides to use the standard amount of mystic energy needed to gain access to the River of Possibilities in case he failed. It uses up 1.5 cubic meters of his Cube World

When Keon finally reached the bare minimum, he stops and waited for a few seconds before his surroundings were changed without a warning

Earlier, Keon is inside his Cube World that only contained his soul and colorless energy. But now, his soul entered a colorful space

In front of Cairo was a flowing river of bright colors. It was mostly blue and violet though that looks like a beautiful galaxy

The colors were so bright that Keon was mesmerized by them. The River of Possibilities ... it was simply stunning!

It can make one feel as if they won't get tired looking at it for the rest of their life. The colors were just too vibrant it would make anyone drawn to it

Too bad that Keon entered this world not to sightsee but to condense his first-ever mystic form

Keon was worried that something bad will happen if he took too long and he closes his eyes to focus on the task in front of him

With the use of Keon's will again, some of the colorful lights detached themselves from the river. When Keon judges that he cannot control more of them, only then did he open his eyes

On the palm of Cairo's soul, a ball of colorful lights can be seen and he tried to shape it into a sword

Sword-type mystic forms are one of the most basic ones but it was also the weapon that Keon is used to. He already has some basic swordsmanship training and he thinks his progress would be fast if he has a sword weapon

The colorful lights start to move energetically and their shape changes. Keon really hope that he would have a sword but his wish didn't come true

Instead of gaining a sword, the colorful lights instead turned into a blank card

As soon as the card was formed, Keon's soul was immediately kicked out from the River of Possibilities, and he was back in reality

In the real world, a wave of mystic power was emitted by Keon's body and the same blank card appeared in his hand

Keon was ecstatic that he succeeded in his first try. It is not a big achievement as a lot of people also succeeded in their first try but it is still a good start!

Soon, information flooded in Keon's mind. He was disappointed that he didn't gain a sword-type weapon but this card might even be better!

Card-type abilities are also not too rare but Keon's card ability has quite a lot of good uses

First, just like most card users, Keon is pretty versatile. He can literally use different elements!

Some people have fire elemental swords and their swords can only use fire. Some have few elements while Keon can use a lot of them!

The only limitation was that he first needs to have a sample of that element. For example, if Keon wants to shoot fire through his cards, that is only possible if he puts fire inside his card at least once before

Still, this is a pretty good ability. After all, whether it be fire, water, wind, earth, and other elements, all those things are pretty common

After learning what this card can do, Keon becomes excited. No matter what, this is still his first mystic form, he can't wait to try it out!

In excitement, Keon picked up one of the leaves in the ground that fell from the trees and he puts it inside his card

The leaves pass through the card and entered it easily. After that, it sent a mysterious wave to Keon's body and he fueled the card with some of his mystic energy

Soon, Keon's card turned green in color. He stood up from his seat while the card floated on top of his palm

Keon controlled the card and pointed it to the ground. It would be bad if he destroyed any property of the orphanage and he can only experiment using the ground

Deciding that he should try the ability of his card, Keon had it attack the ground and it immediately did

From the card, three sharp leaves came out and they penetrated the hard ground a bit. After that, the card dissipated and Keon would need to remake it to use his ability again

"Just that?" Keon muttered in disappointment before sighing. It can't be helped, his mystic form is still just at the basic rank. That was the weakest among all the mystic forms

"I need to increase the power and rank of my mystic form as soon as possible" Keon said to himself

The training period for the orphans after they connected to their Cube World is only six months. After that, they would then join the department that has the highest mortality rate or become ordinary people

If Keon was at least a normal civilian with parents, he can choose what department to enter. Too bad that he is an orphan. He is 'indebted' to the government for giving him food and shelter all these years. Thus, he can only join the most dangerous department

If in six months, Keon was not able to upgrade his Mystic Form to at least the intermediate rank just like what his father has, his chances of dying early would be pretty high

Thus, Keon puts all of his effort and time into training his mystic form. He had it absorb fire, water, earth, and even metals. It gave him quite a range of abilities he can use

More than a week has passed and it is two weeks already since the orphans connected to their Cube World. In the span of two weeks, there are already a lot of people that condensed their mystic form with Keon being the fastest one

Keon thought that he would be given a reward for being the first but the reality is really harsh. No orphans gained any sort of reward which is kind of understandable

Almost six months from now, a test would be held for all the orphans. Those who pass will have a chance to walk the path of the Mystics

As for those that will fail, they will be sent to do manual labors, if they were given any resources that mystics use, that would simply be a waste

The duration depends on how long the orphan stayed in the orphanage. If the orphanage provided them food and shelter for 10 years, then they would have to do manual labor for ten years with their salary being just the food and shelter

The government really knows how to exploit people but it can't be helped. The monsters attacking the humans are numerous and powerful, everyone must contribute

As of now, Keon is inside the classroom in the orphanage with the new teacher from the military. His name is Bran, the one that helps the orphans connect to their Cube World for the first time weeks ago

The man was teaching the orphans basic pieces of knowledge and Keon was listening to every word that comes out from his mouth

"All of you here already have your mystic form. Its fuel was naturally your mystic energy but there is also another alternative for mystic energy!" Bran said and everyone's attention was piqued

What could possibly be the other alternative fuel aside from mystic energy?

"I'll be clear now, what I am going to say is not a joke. Every professional mystic knows that this is true!" Bran said and none of the orphans doubted him. He is an extremely serious person, no one would even think that he can make a joke

"We, professional mystics called it as spiral power. It is a very mysterious power that most people deemed impossible to study. It might sound like a joke but the spiral power only needs one thing and that is a strong will!"

"Just think of the protagonists from anime, novels, and other kinds of films. Those protagonists don't give up even in the face of strong enemies. Their will power is strong and there are times where they would suddenly explode with more power than they originally had"

"That is the spiral power! In theory, the increase in power can stretch infinitely. The more you want to defeat an enemy, the stronger your power willpower would become!"

"Of course, this power is not easily accessible. Most people can only use it in a life or death situation. That is why there is an unwritten rule among the mystics and that is to kill your enemy as fast as possible!"

"Don't give them enough time to accumulate their anger towards you, that is an amateur mistake! Also, this spiral power is not only accessible for humans. Even the monsters have access to this power. Don't ever play with fire if you want to live longer! "

Spiral power? There is actually such a thing? Keon almost cannot believe it. After all, it was the same as saying as long as you really want something to happen, even a thing that only a God can do is not out of reach for you

However, Bran's personality and how he explained spiral power is too convincing. Although it seems hard to believe, the orphans don't have a choice but to believe him for now

Bran continued on discussing more things when several loud explosions suddenly entered everyone's hears

Hearing those loud sounds, Keon's eyes and body violently trembled. His whole being sweated heavily as those sounds are very familiar to him

They are the sounds that he never wants to hear again. It was the sound of monsters entering the Hombre Realm through the weak points of the barrier

It was the same sound that appeared from Keon's biggest trauma! He already heard those sounds again after his parents died quite a lot of times but this time, the sounds were close ... too close!

The orphanage has one of the emergency fortified shelters that the civilians can evacuate to. However, what if the monsters came directly from above the orphanage? Would it give the orphans and other people enough time to evacuate?
