Chapter 4: Trauma

The wasp has sharp-bladed legs that look as if it can cut anything in its path. The humans were much bigger than it but they act as if the wasp was ten times larger than them

It seems like the actions of Keon's father provoked the wasp and it uses its sharp legs to cut the man

Keon's father knew that he should kill this wasp if he wants to keep his family and other people around him safe. In fact, just killing the wasp is simply not enough, he needs to do it at the fastest speed possible!

If the fight goes on for a long time, it was possible that more monsters will discover them. If that happens, their chance of survival would be very slim

Thinking of that, the police's eyes glowed with fighting power. To keep his family safe and fulfill his duty as a policeman, he needs to kill this wasp in the shortest time possible!

The police blocked the wasp's legs with his sword and although his enemy was smaller than him, the impact still causes his hands to feel numb. After all, this wasp is at the same level as him, a Level 1 Intermediate Rank creature

Most humans cannot defeat monsters at their level yet Keon's father even needs to do that in the shortest time possible. No matter how hopeless things look, he is a policeman that needs to keep his family and other people safe!

While the normal citizens watch their exchange with fear, the police gathered mystic energy in his sword and it starts glowing with a reddish light

"[Mystic Art: Flaming Sword!]"

A crimson fire spread on the police's sword while he looks at the wasp as if it was his greatest enemy. He might be at the bottom of the Mystics but he will make sure to fulfill his duty! That is the kind of person he is!

With a flaming sword in his hand, the police swung it wildly on the wasp that once again used its bladed sharp legs. The legs and sword met, this time, it was the wasp that was push back by the impact

Since the police use more of his Mystic Power, his attacks grew in strength too

The clash's result angered the wasp and it issued sounds of anger before flying higher while pointing its stinger into the enemy

A sharp cone shape attack was shot by the wasp and the police can only use his sword to destroy those attacks. He can dodge it but he feared that the people that are consumed by fear behind him would be hurt

The police continuously slashed his sword to destroy those attacks but the monsters' superiority was shown this time. The monsters have stronger physiques and their attacks are also often stronger than normal human standards

The more time that pass, the limited mystic energy of the police was being used up at a rapid rate. The flames in his sword start to flicker as if they would dissipate any moment from now

Not only the police's mystic energy expenditure is high, but it also becomes hard to maintain the flames in his sword as the impact from the wasp's attack was hurting his arms

This policeman is simply too weak. It was a wonder how he manages to become a policeman with just this level of strength. But perhaps, it is not his personal power that enabled him to become a policeman. Perhaps it was his desire to protect everyone

The police forcefully add more fuel to his sword and the flames in it grew bigger. He slashed his sword in empty space and a wave of fire spread

The crescent shape fire cuts the wasp's attack in half and it even has strength left to continue in the wasp's direction. Too bad that although the wasp is not intelligent, it still has some basic instincts

Instead of letting the wave of fire hit it like an idiot, the wasp dodged by flying to the side

However, the police's next actions caught it off guard. The police jump high in the air, this leaped raised him several meters away from the ground and he reaches the wasp's location

With a flaming sword in his hand, the police poured all of his strength into it. His strong will paid off and he managed to cut the wasp's body in half with the cost of a huge chunk of his Mystic Energy

The police start falling down from the ground while a smile formed on his face. He did it! He succeeded! He killed a monster at his level in such a short time! This made him ecstatic but the next second, his eyes widened in shock

Another wasp suddenly appeared and it didn't give anyone the chance to react. The wasp successfully uses its stinger to stab the police from behind

The police cough out blood while his eyes were getting extremely blurry. The normal citizens don't even have the chance to celebrate the police's victory when he died just like that

This causes a wave of panic to spread on everyone's heart and they immediately run away from the scene in hopes that they can still survive

Only the police and two other people are left at the scene

"NOOO!!" Keon's mother shouted from despair while running towards her now-dead husband

When the wasp sensed her, it ignored the dead police to attack a new and still alive human

Keon watched as both his father and mother died in front of him. Blood flowed in the ground and his vision went red

"M-mama .... p-papa ...."

Keon cannot believe what happened. His parents were just smiling at him a few minutes ago. Why does this need to happen?

His young heart starts beating as fast as it could while dread, hopelessness, fear, and other negative emotions filled his whole being

The wasp turned into a demon in his eyes. A demon that left a deep impression of fear on him. He cannot move no matter how much he tried. The fear and trauma he got were too severe for him to do anything. He can only wait for his death that didn't come

Suddenly, blue light fell from the sky and before the wasp can harm Keon, that light smashed the monster's body causing its blood to land on the kid's face. That just made him even more terrified

"Gamba, can't you be more careful?! There's a child in here!" A voice of a woman entered Keon's ears but he ignored it. His focus was on his parents and wasp that are all dead now

Keon didn't even see how a woman reaches his position. "Kid, have you been hurt anywhere?" That woman asked but Keon acted as if he was a statue and just continued standing there like a dumb kid

"Lyra, just leave him be. That kid is too traumatized to say anything" a man said and it was the source of that blue light. Specifically, it was his body that contained that blue lights that are actually lightning

"Gamba how can you say that?!" The woman scolded and she moved Keon's body so that the kid would look at her

Keon saw a beautiful woman with green eyes that wears the same uniform as his father but he doesn't have the mental capacity to admire her. His face was terribly pale and his body was still shaking from fear

"It's alright, you are safe now" the woman said with her soothing voice and gentle smile. That gave Keon some sanity and he turned to look at his parents again

"Why.... why did they die...?" Keon asked like a broken doll and the woman doesn't have an answer to that. Instead, it was the arrogant looking man that gave him a terrible answer

"Because they are weak. In this world, the weak can easily die. They don't have enough power, that is why they died" the man answered with a dark look on his face

"P-power..." Keon muttered

Power ... yes! Everything in this world needs you to have power! If you don't have enough power, you can be squash to death by everyone. Power is everything!

Without a warning, the world around Keon received a dramatic change. It turned into a space of pitch-black darkness. The changes were too fast and it came without a warning but Keon doesn't seem shocked about it

Instead, Keon just sighs heavily before his body grew up. His body returned to his original fifteen years old self

"What do you want to achieve by doing this?" Keon asked before turning his body. Behind him appeared a person that looks exactly like him. In fact, that person is really him ... it was his other self

His self that he got after his parents died. He doesn't know how it can do something like this but every time that he would get too tired, it will do something like this

The other Keon chuckled at his question. "Isn't the answer obvious? I am suppressed here for a long time already. I want to break you and control our body"

Keon took deep breaths after hearing the answer he already anticipated. "If that happens, you'll just kill people. Do you want us to be thrown in jail?"

The other Keon issued a loud laugh that irritated him. "Hahahaha! We already connected to our Cube World! Sooner or later you'll enter a situation where you need to kill monsters or even other humans. Don't you think you will need me when that time comes?"

Keon gritted his teeth at that. He already anticipated the possible things that can happen in the future. His other self was right, it was only a matter of time before he entered that kind of situation

Keon is already readying himself for that but ... he still never killed anyone before. He was a bit worried that when he faced monsters, he would be too scared to do anything. If that happens, he can really only rely on his other personality

The other Keon doesn't have any killing experiences too but Keon is sure that it can do that easily without holding back. If the other Keon took control of this body, he might become the suppressed personality and he cannot let that happen

"Shut your mouth!" Keon shouted and closes his eyes. Soon, the space of complete darkness vanishes, and Keon opened his eyes

The sun is already hitting his face. A proof that morning finally arrives. Keon sighs at that, the thing he feared still happened last night

Keon sat on his bed and puts his palm to his face. He was once again reminded of the most traumatizing experience he ever had. The image of that wasp was deeply implanted in his mind for the nth time

"Damn it!" Keon cursed. His father was the greatest person in his eyes before but now, that man becomes laughable for him

If Keon's father just abandoned other people, he might have succeeded in keeping his family safe. But he didn't, he chose to become a martyr that will help everyone even though he was weak

If Keon is in that situation, he would just let those people die. After all, those people are stupid too. Normal people might not have the power to fight monsters in a one-on-one battle but they have the numbers at that time!

They have at least one Mystic Form even if they are just civilians! If they helped his father, they can surely kill that wasp easily!

If they did that then even if the other wasp appeared, his father wouldn't be caught too off guard and die!

Stupid! They are all stupid! All of them are stupid!

"Hey Keon, did you have a nightmare last night again?" One of Keon's roommates asked causing his thoughts to be interrupted. That made Keon lose his calm and he looks at his roommate with eyes filled with anger

Keon's roommate felt goosebumps all over his body and he was extremely shocked at what he saw. It feels like he was stared at by a demon

"Hahaha, yeah, sorry for that" Keon immediately answered after he realizes what he has done

The disparity between how he looks now and how he looks earlier was worlds apart. It causes his roommate to blink his eyes repeatedly in confusion

"What's wrong?" Keon innocently asked and that brought his roommate back to reality

"A-ahh n-nothing. I-I must have been hallucinating" the man answered before finally leaving Keon alone that let out a sigh of relief. His real personality was almost shown, he needs to be even more careful from now on
