17 PUZZLED MIND AND HEART

Zoe tried to explain to Amity, hoping that she would recognize the woman whom she saved on her first day at Lord Howe Island.

"I just wish to visit an admitted patient here the other night because of drowning."

One attribute of Zoe is her attachment to her patients' welfare.

A characteristic admired by all of her assigned patients but disliked by most of her colleagues.

Even now when she was having a vacation, she couldn't shake off her pro-life instinct.

"I can't really remember her name, but I noticed her as a staff of the owner of this clinic because they were together during that incident," Zoe continued to narrate.

"Oh, I think it is Mrs. Gong!" Amity divulged with a pointed forefinger as soon as Zoe's story was clear in her head.

"But I guess you can't see her right now," Amity uttered with a sad note.

"Why not?" Zoe curiously asked with slightly furrowed eyebrows.

"It's not as if I will harm her or anything." She added as she thrust her palms away with a smile on her face.

"I know," Amity shyly smiled back. "It's just that Lady Zhou, the holder of this hospital, clearly warned us not to let anyone talk to her. Even her household was not aware that she's here."

"What? Where is her family?" Zoe prodded on.

Amity checked her surroundings if there were nurses nearby before she confided to Zoe's ear.

"As far as I notice, they were not living on this island. She's been working for Lady Zhou for eight years. She's just sending money to them."

Zoe whispered back to Amity, "But why would Lady Zhou stop her from talking with her family? They deserve the right to know! She almost died during that incident!"

This time Amity dragged Zoe into a part of the hallway where she was certain that no one could hear them.

"I'm telling you this because I trust you and I admire you a lot," Amity defended herself before she spilled the beans.

"One of the nurses overheard her and Lady Zhou's conversation. She stated that Mrs. Gong is arguing with her that it was not an accident. She intended to kill her!"

Zoe cupped her mouth as it fell open and prevented herself from screaming. "Is it true? Why would she do that?!"

Amity tapped her head and grimaced. "I shouldn't have told you that. I'm sorry," she sadly responded as she went back to her station.

But, Zoe grabbed her arm and stopped her from making any further steps. "It's okay. It's okay," she comforted Amity with her words. "Can you please carry on?"

Amity was hesitant to speak, so she reasoned out. "Mrs. Gong might be in more danger."

"You're right," Amity said as she heaved out a heavy sigh. "It seemed Lady Zhou just found out that Mrs. Gong knew how to get to a place that she has been searching for a decade. Mrs. Gong misled her that's why she pushed her off the boat." She concluded.

Zoe paused and contemplated the fresh information she heard. 'There's clearly something going on here. Why would Lady Zhou craved to go to such a place, which is enough reason for her to murder somebody?'

Seeing Zoe's crumpled face as she was solving the puzzle she has just found out, Amity butted in.

"Maybe if I could have your number, I can call you if I have a recent piece of information about this?" she asked Zoe.

"Sure! Do you have a pen and pad?" Zoe requested. She's not used to involving herself with other's issues. But there was something pressing on her about this that she wanted to find out.

"Here!" Amity handed out a sticky note to her with a gleeful smile.

Yes, she was concerned with Mrs. Gong. But she also wants to be friends with her idol.

After seeing the sticky paper, Zoe chuckled and smoothed her hair to her side.

'I wonder what my sticky paper is up to?' she thought as she got curious where "Red" lives on that island and what he is doing right now.

As fast as lightning, she brushed the thought off. 'My sticky paper?! I just saw him once!' She scolded herself in secret for having such feelings for a man he only met on one single time.

"You remember your boyfriend?" Amity teased as she stared at how Zoe's cheeks turned red while writing her phone number down.

"What? I'm sorry, I don't have one," Zoe rattled as she explained herself.

She handed the pen and sticky note with nervous fingers and smiled to Amity to hide her quick heartbeat.

"Okay, no problem." Amity giggled knowing that her goddess seems to be in a love relationship, whether she knew she was in it or not.
