Chapter 48: Union

Hailey’s POV

“What have you done with Angus?” I ask Owen as he sinks down on the bed with a sigh. His skin is damp from the hot water in the shower and his hair is still soaking wet. The scent of soap mingles with his skin, and when he opens his eyes to look at me I notice with new and startling clarity how blue his eyes are. Bluer than anything I've ever seen before.

“By the time the fight was over I had knocked him out. I didn't have time to take care of him, because I knew something happened to you, so I left him abandoned in one of the corridors,” he admits and his lips draw a grimace. “Honestly, I was afraid he would wake up and run away, but as far as I know, after everything was over, the guards went for him and took him into custody.”

“That's a relief to know,” I say cross-legged, and as I dry my damp hair with a towel. “Now at least he will answer to the king for all he has caused,” I affirm, and Owen nods.
