Chapter 43 Comfort

Faced with Austin's outstretched hand, Kara did not hesitate or react strangely. But very soon, she suddenly closed her eyes as an ultra-high frequency sound that ordinary people could not perceive drilled into her ears, giving her a splitting headache in an instant.

"Don't worry, this is normal. I need you to calm down, focus your attention on me, listen carefully to my words, don't be affected by other sounds," Austin immediately understood what was happening when he saw her reaction. Kara had just been empowered by the yellow sun and was still getting used to it.

Under Austin's guidance, Kara chose to believe what he said. Soon, those messy sounds gradually faded away and she started feeling better. Looking up at Austin, there was confusion in Kara's eyes.

"Why does it seem like you understand me so well? What exactly is going on here, why is this planet so strange?" Kara narrowed her eyes slightly, suddenly discovering she could see Austin's skeleton.

Being observed this way made Austin's vigilance surge instinctively. It was a very strange feeling as if he was being seen through completely by the other party like he wasn't wearing any clothes with his entire body and soul exposed to her scrutiny.

Austin also understood she had probably unlocked her X-ray vision and forcefully suppressed the discomfort in his body.

"What's strange isn't this planet, but the sun. This is probably your first time being exposed to the yellow sun right? Its radiation can greatly enhance your body, turning you into an invulnerable 'Superman'. At the same time, it amplifies your senses to unbelievable levels."

Quietly listening to Austin's explanation, Kara's floating body slowly descended onto the rooftop. She was very curious about this human before her.

"I know you have many questions. Feel free to ask anything. As long as I know the answers, I'll tell you. Consider this my sincerity in gaining your trust," said Austin with a shrug.

"Who are you? How do you know so much about me?" Kara immediately asked what she wanted to know most.

"I already introduced myself earlier. I'm Austin Evans, from another universe. Strictly speaking, my companions and I are looking for a suitable universe for me to survive in. You could understand that I'm a wanderer of the multiverse," said Austin with a wry laugh, seemingly self-deprecating over the experiences he has had recently.

Then he continued, "As to why I know so much about you, it is because I know a lot about the multiverse, including you and your cousin."

"You know my cousin!" Kara suddenly became excited, interrupting Austin. "Do you know where he is now? Was he also captured by the humans!?"

If there was anyone Kara was most worried about in this world, it was undoubtedly her cousin Kal-El. But in other universes, Kal-El had a more familiar name - Clark Kent, or Superman.

Kara was quite a bit older than Kal-El. When the two of them left Krypton on the spaceship, Kal-El was still a baby in swaddling clothes. This was what worried Kara the most. He was just a baby then. Kara could hardly imagine what might have happened if her infant cousin had been captured and experimented on by humans.

Seeing Kara's anxiousness, Austin did not keep her guessing. "Kara, I know you are very anxious, but it's best if you calm down. What I'm about to say next may be difficult for you to accept at first."

Hearing this, Kara immediately understood that her cousin had most likely already met his fate. She slowly clenched her fists as a surge of momentum erupted from her. Austin, who was closest, immediately retreated two steps. He knew Kara was currently suppressing the rage in her heart.

It was an emotion as terrifying as a tsunami. Kara's eyes visibly turned red at a rate discernible to the naked eye. Immense energy filled them, seemingly about to erupt into a destructive blast that could annihilate everything at any moment.

But Kara eventually forced herself to calm down. Clenching her teeth tightly, she slowly uttered a single word from her mouth.

"Speak." 

Seeing this, Austin sighed. "Don't get me wrong. Your cousin's accident had nothing to do with Earth. He died at Zod's hands. I believe you should be familiar with this Kryptonian general."

"General Zod? That Kryptonian rebel? How is that possible, he was clearly exiled to the Phantom Zone!" Kara immediately refuted, her eyes filled with disbelief.

"Indeed, but because of that exile, he escaped Krypton's destruction. Afterwards, he intercepted your cousin's spaceship with his remaining troops, and spent decades creating the Genesis Engine to lock onto your location."

At this point, Austin deeply glanced at Kara and calmly continued, "His goal is to find the Codex, the central database that holds Krypton's genetic make-up, in order to rebuild Kryptonian civilization. He thought the Codex was within your cousin's body. So he made a move to try extracting it from within him, but the result..."

Austin did not continue. In fact, there was no need to elaborate further. Kara clearly already understood the ins and outs of the matter. She couldn't even dream that her cousin's interstellar voyage would end before it even began, and that the one who killed him was actually a fellow Kryptonian.

Kara's lips trembled slightly as she took deep breaths continuously, trying to soothe her emotions and rage. Then, clinging to a final shred of hope, she spoke again, "Why should I believe you? You could be lying to me."

"But deep down you know I'm not lying to you, because your eyes and ears can clearly see through my heartbeat, can't they? Also, Zod has arrived on Earth, his ship is hovering over Australia. If you don't believe me, you can go and ask him directly."

Having said that, Austin saw the eager Kara and quickly added, "You're not really going to confront him directly later right? His purpose in coming to Earth is to look for you. Going would be delivering yourself to death's door!"

"If what you said is true, then I must avenge my cousin!" Kara roared.

"Easier said than done. How will you avenge him? You are Kryptonian, and so is he. Both of you have been empowered by the yellow sun now, and he has clearly been empowered for longer than you. I admit you are formidable now, but if you intend to kill him, that would be utterly impossible!"

As his voice trailed off, silence descended upon the rooftop. Kara's expression was twisted, as the anger and unwillingness in her heart finally erupted, transforming into endless grief.

As a survivor of Krypton, she had originally intended to bring her cousin to start a new life on a new world. There was no need to do anything major, even just growing up peacefully, getting married, and having children would be fine. But she never expected her cousin to have already suffered such a fate so early.

At the same time, upon arriving on this planet, she herself was immediately captured by the military and imprisoned all the way until now. And just when she was finally rescued with great difficulty, she couldn't even avenge her cousin.

One must understand, that during her period of imprisonment, her main drive to persevere was because she was worried about her cousin's safety.

This immense pain directly crushed Kara's fragile heart. She slumped down on the rooftop, buried her head between her knees, and let out muffled sobs.

Seeing Kara in this state, Austin hesitated briefly before walking over and gently patting her head. "Don't worry, I'll help you."
