MHA Paragon

Hello boys and girls it’s your favorite eternally bored prince of hell and I hope you guys are ready because I’ve whipped up one hell of a show. For those of you who are new around here allow me to introduce myself, my name is Lucifer Morningstar and in my spare time I like to reincarnate mortals into worlds of fiction. The masterpiece you will be reading is called MHA Paragon, where I take my own personal spin on the world of My Hero Academia. In Paragon, humans aren’t the only beings capable of awakening their quirks. Animals have as well, warping them into monstrous forms called Dread Beasts and completely flipping the food chain. Humanity lost their foothold over the earth and has been pushed back into heavily fortified cities called bastions. Now it’s up to the heroes you know and love to repel the Dread Beast invasion from completely wiping humanity out. But that’s not all, in this universe quirks are constantly evolving granting their users tremendous levels of power. So if this sounds appealing please join in and watch as our MC Kenji Aotoma a reincarnated mortal comes to grasp with his new reality after a lifetime to solitude and loneliness. With a muffled groan of pain Kenji pulled himself out of the small crater he had formed after slamming into the earth at mach speed. But as he stood up Kenji was shocked to find that none of his bones were broken, in fact he was practically unscathed.

'Well I guess I have you to thank for that,' Kenji thought as he inspected his newly minted void armor, which was far different from what Kenji expected. Instead of heavy plate or even reinforced leather, Kenji was covered in a black, tattered robe made out of a heavy, layered fabric. The edges of the fabric were frayed and torn, giving the garment a battle-worn look, with wide sleeves and a sash clinching the robe around Kenji's waist. A hole cut out in the back allowed Kenji's tail to move around freely and feeling a bunch of material around his neck Kenji reached up to find a heavy hood that could obscure his features if he needed it.

Doing a few stretches and running in place Kenji tested his range of movement and found the armor didn't restrict him whatsoever and could barely be felt despite its dense appearance.

'This is incredible,' Kenji thought as he clenched his fist only to hear the clink of metal reminding him of the chain woven around his arm, 'I probably could have used this earlier.'

Pushing aside his forgetfulness Kenji looked up only to see a small dot of light far in the distance like a star in the night sky, "It's going to take me forever to climb all the way back up there."

Turning to look around, Kenji's view was heavily obscured by large pieces of stone and compacted dirt, some piled so high that Kenji had to crane his head back to see the top, 'Definitely not climbing on those, one wrong move and I can cause a landslide.'

Exhaling through his nose Kenji faced the last thing of note, a wide tunnel dug into the earthen wall of the sinkhole. The pitch black mouth of the passage was a foreboding sight, "Definitely not going in there either, so I guess I'm climbing."

Sighing Kenji was about to deactivate his void armor when a soft clicking sound reached his ears, like someone clicking their teeth together in freezing weather. But the noise wasn't continuous, it came out in steady pulses and for a second Kenji could help but think of dolphins using sonar to find food in the ocean.

Facing the sound's origin Kenji stared into the pitch black mouth of the tunnel and an intense sense of foreboding fell over him. Then from the darkness a slim pair of antenna came into view, waving erratically through the air sampling it for something of interest.

'Fuck.'

Kenji could only watch in stunned horror as the antennas' owner was revealed. Its chitinous exoskeleton was dark segmented and adorned with jagged spikes. The head, a grotesque fusion of mandibles and multiple glowing eyes, surveyed its surroundings with a predatory intelligence. And its elongated body the size of a small truck was supported by spindly, claw-tipped legs,

The same chittering sound echoed from the ant as it clacked its scythe-like mandibles together and Kenji felt the wave of sound wash over his body.

In an instant the ant went from wandering to lasering in on Kenji's position, its antenna stiffening to point directly at him.

The Dread Beast clacked its mandibles one more time before it lunged forward, closing the gap between them far faster than Kenji expected. The ground beneath Kenji's feet rippled and he slid back standing on a personal wave of pitch black liquid.

With a vicious snap the ant's mandibles sliced through the air where Kenji had just stood. While his armor had just received a powerful upgrade Kenji didn't want to test its durability in life or death combat.

Surfing behind the monster Kenji tried to find the ant's weak point, he had no doubt its carapace was just as strong as it looked so tackling it head on was out of the option. Before Kenji could formulate a real plan, the ant's abdomen curled up over its head and started to throb menacingly.

Changing his direction on a dime Kenji skated back just as the ant released a viscous blue liquid from its posterior. Still within range Kenji threw his hand up creating a pitch black barrier between him and the substance.

With a hiss the glowing blue acid splashed across Kenji's shield, and he could feel the potent corrosive nature of the acid as the imaginary distance created by his abyss was quickly eaten up to eliminate the threat.

Letting the barrier drop, Kenji spilled the leftover acid onto the ground where it quickly ate through the solid bedrock. But he couldn't afford to watch the phenomena as the ant let out three more quick bursts of its acid.

Weaving through the projectiles on his wave, Kenji's eyes were calm and collected, as the ant let out a chattering screech before rushing forward its six legs flying across the ground in an undulating wave.

'Alright it's time for you to redeem yourself.'

Pulling back his sleeve Kenji let the chain unwrapped around his arm and pool on the floor, then with a mental nudge Kenji covered the weapon in the abyss. Like a creeping black tide the chain's rusted surface was covered in the familiar pitch black substance.

Feeling a connection from Kenji ordered the chain to hover off the ground and grinned when the connected metal links floated into the air in a serpentine pattern.

Grabbing the chain with his other hand Kenji started to twirl the length of steel, starting slow at first before picking up seed. In a matter of seconds the chain was a blur of darkness and Kenji grinned as his mind filled with new possibilities, 'I would have preferred a big can of raid, but I guess this will do.'

Kenji's robe billowed in the gust kicked up by his chain and with a grunt he threw the weapon with all his strength.
