Volume 2 Episode 2

The first class of the day was just a basic introduction of the rules and regulations of the academy followed by short introductions by the teacher and the students. The homeroom teacher, Mr. Kang, was a middle-aged man who looked to be in his forties. He interacted with the students quite well and the students quickly came to be relieved of the tension.

After the first class going without a problem, the second class was about to start when a boy walked up to Lin's desk.

"You're Lin Hamill aren't you?"

Lin, who was sitting and reading a book at the time, looked up to see the boy smiling at him. But, it wasn't a nice smile that he had on his face.

"Yes I am, what of it?"

"My name is Kenta. My family had to go through a lot of problems due to the interference by your family's company. My dad had to go through all sorts of trouble just to get your family of our back, but that resulted in us using most of our money and falling in debt."

What the fuck is he talking about? Why is it so vague with the description?

Well to be fair, you definitely wouldn't tell every detail of your financial situation to your child but still…. You could at least ask around to get more information about what his parents did to fall in such a debt and how his family made them do that.

As he thought the nonsense spewing from the kid's mouth, Lin couldn't help but sigh.

"So you have a bone to pick with me is what you're saying. What? My family isn't scary enough to you, is that it?"

"Hehehe… this is Drakon Academy, your family influence may get you admissions and have provide you with special rooms and what not, but what it doesn't do is restrict the students from challenging fellow schoolmates. The rules state that only if you give up on the ring shall the challenge be considered ended and giving up before entering the ring isn't valid. You knew this, didn't you?"

"So as long as I give up at the start of the fight, it's considered to be concluded?" Lin, having heard the rules, asked.

"Yes it is, but you definitely wouldn't do that now would you? I mean, your family values power, money and respect over everything else and they sure as hell wouldn't like it if their favorite child gave up at the start of the fight without even trying like a chicken now, would they?" Kenta sneered at Lin, attempting to get a reaction out of him. But Lin's face which was calm didn't move a muscle, leaving him disappointed.

"So what you're saying is that you want to challenge me right now?"

"Yes! I want to beat you to get revenge for hurting my family."

Did he really not think this through? Is he really this dumb or does he have something up his sleeve? Amused by the blatant provocation from the fifteen year old, Lin thought whether or not he was actually a blockhead.

"Did your family die or something?"

"Huh?"confused by what he had meant, Kenta turned to look at Lin, who slowly repeated the question.

"I asked, did your family die?"

"No, they're alive, why are you asking me that?"

"Are you really this dumb or are you faking it? I'm honestly not sure… but I really want to find out."

Startled and in confusion of what Lin was saying, Kenta looked at him flustered.

"Ar-are you threatening my family??" Kenta, having figured out what he was trying to tell him, shouted.

"Hey, I never said anything like that now did I? Don't put words in my mouth. Although why didn't you expect such a response to come? What? Did you think I wouldn't be able to threaten you in broad daylight? Is that why you were so intent on provoking me? Didn't you use your head you little shit? Like you said, I may not have the complete power here as opposed to outside the campus, but that protection that you thought you had only extends to the people that are part of the campus. Why do you think your parents chose to, like you said, compromise with my family. Do you think they didn't think about revenge? They didn't care about righteousness? They didn't care about justice? No, they used their head, unlike your dogshit excuse you call a brain. They knew that they would lose what they care about if they took up the path to revenge. So they chose to come to a compromise. What would they think when they hear that all that they've done had gone down the drains when their stupid ass brain dead son recklessly tried to fight the son of the family that they compromised with in the name of vengeance? Boy, I would sure love to see that. How about that? Would you be so kind as to show it to me? Huh, would you?"

Lin finished speaking, and the entire classroom was silent. One could even hear a pin drop. Nobody moved. Nobody talked. The kid, Kenta, who was all proud of himself just a few moments ago was scared out of his pants. He looked at Lin as some sort of monster. Even Luke, who used to make fun of him, was shocked beyond words.

"So.. what do you say? Want to fight? Want me to join you on the ring? Or do you want to go back to your seat?"

"... I.. want to go back to my seat…."

As Kenta answered, he kept his head lowered and went back to his seat. The rest of the students also moved to their seats, not daring to look at Lin anymore. They had truly seen a blatant and yet effective use of threatening today, and no one wished to be in the same situation.

Lin moved to his seat as well, and started reading the book where he had left off.

After a while, the second teacher arrived and started to teach them about the various courses you can apply for. There were a lot of courses specializing in fire magic, but he had chosen to go with Warrior Course which was a general course containing every magic type. The Warrior course dealt with training for Guilds and Commerce. In short, they were intent on producing the strongest and the commercially successful people.

As the first day of the academy ended, Lin packed up his books and moved to his room. Unlike other students who lived in dorms, he used his connections to get a private apartment inside the academy which was left for the wealthy. The apartment had a huge sum of rent only payable by the richest of the rich.

Lin opened the door and moved inside. The apartment was really nice, as one would expect from a ridiculously priced room. After putting his books away and taking a shower, he walked towards the basement door. "Well, time to get back to work." He told himself as he went down to the basement.
