Chapter 28: The Breaking Point 2/?

Xandar was in ruins. The once-majestic city, home to the Nova Corps, was now nothing more than shattered buildings and twisted streets, ripped apart by Ethan's overwhelming power. The sky above was fractured, with swirling black portals tearing open rifts in reality itself. Debris hovered in the air, caught between dimensions, while the ground cracked under the strain of the battle.

The Vanguards fought desperately, but despite their combined might, Ethan, The Spot, was stronger than ever. His mastery over the spotted dimension had reached a terrifying peak. Every attack they launched was countered, redirected, or swallowed by his endless portals.

Tony Stark flew overhead, his nanotech armor shifting constantly as he dodged the debris and energy blasts Ethan flung his way. His HUD flickered with data as he activated his advanced arsenal. Missiles, plasma beams, and energy blasts shot toward Ethan, but each attack vanished into one of Ethan's swirling black circles.

"I can't get a clean hit!" Tony grunted over the comms, sweat dripping down his brow. His suit was straining to keep up with the intensity of the fight.

"Keep the pressure on!" Steve Rogers shouted from the ground. He charged toward Ethan, shield raised, eyes locked on the enemy. "We need to force him into a mistake!"

Steve hurled his vibranium shield with pinpoint precision, aiming for Ethan's chest. But Ethan barely acknowledged the attack. A portal opened just inches from his body, and the shield vanished. A moment later, it reappeared behind Steve, hurtling toward him at incredible speed. Steve managed to catch it just in time, but the force sent him stumbling back.

"You're still trying to fight me like you understand what I am," Ethan said coldly. His voice echoed through the battlefield, calm and controlled, as if he were speaking to insects. "You're outmatched in every way."

Ethan raised his hand, and portals erupted around the Vanguards, swirling black holes of destruction. From each portal, waves of energy shot out, hitting the heroes from all angles. Thor barely managed to block the attacks with his lightning-infused hammer, while Natasha and Clint dived for cover behind the wreckage of a collapsed building.

But not everyone could escape.

A portal appeared directly in front of Scott Summers, Cyclops, just as he was unleashing a powerful optic blast. The energy beam was instantly redirected, and before Scott could react, the redirected blast slammed into his side, sending him crashing into a pile of rubble. He lay still, his body smoking from the impact, his visor shattered.

"Scott!" Storm screamed, her eyes widening in horror as she saw her leader fall. She summoned a massive gust of wind, lightning crackling in the air around her. "You will pay for this!"

But Ethan was relentless. A portal opened beneath Storm, and before she could react, she was yanked through it, reappearing high above the battlefield. Disoriented and off balance, Storm couldn't regain control of her flight, and she plummeted toward the ground.

Sue Storm, Invisible Woman, managed to catch her in a force field just before impact, but the damage was done. Ethan was systematically picking them apart.

"Enough of this!" Reed Richards shouted, his body stretching across the battlefield as he tried to wrap Ethan in his elongated limbs. But Ethan anticipated the move. With a thought, a portal opened around Reed's arm, severing it at the shoulder. Reed's form snapped back, his face twisted in pain as he tried to regroup.

"You think your body can keep up with me, Richards?" Ethan sneered. "You're nothing."

Without warning, Ethan launched himself into the fray. His black circles rippled across his body as he moved with blinding speed, appearing and disappearing through portals as he engaged the heroes in brutal close combat.

Thor, glowing with divine power, swung Mjölnir in a wide arc, but Ethan ducked under the blow, opening a portal beneath Thor's feet. Thor fell into the portal, only to reappear directly in front of Ethan, who delivered a devastating punch to the Asgardian's face, sending him crashing through the ruins of a nearby building.

Tony flew in low, attempting to flank Ethan, but before he could fire, a portal opened in front of him, absorbing his repulsor blast. Ethan appeared behind him, grabbing him by the back of his armor and slamming him into the ground. Tony groaned as his HUD flickered, the suit struggling to repair itself.

"You think this armor can protect you?" Ethan hissed, his hand crackling with energy as he prepared to deliver a final blow.

But before Ethan could finish him, Hulk, now fully merged with Bruce Banner, charged into the fray. "Get away from him!" Hulk roared, his massive fist crashing into Ethan's side, sending him flying across the battlefield.

Ethan skidded to a stop, his black circles absorbing the impact. He stood up, unscathed, and smiled. "Ah, Hulk. You're finally fighting with your brain. Impressive."

But Ethan was done playing games. He opened a portal beneath Hulk, and the green giant vanished, only to reappear miles above the battlefield. Hulk hurtled toward the ground at breakneck speed, and when he hit, the impact caused a massive shockwave that shook the entire city.

Hulk groaned, dazed from the fall, but before he could recover, Ethan appeared beside him, delivering a series of rapid punches, each blow reinforced by the power of the spotted dimension. The ground cracked beneath Hulk's body as he was beaten into submission.

As the battle raged on, Clint Barton, Hawkeye, moved through the wreckage, trying to find an opening. He notched an explosive arrow, his eyes locked on Ethan.

But Ethan had already seen him.

A portal opened directly in front of Clint, and before he could react, a black tendril shot out, wrapping around his chest and pulling him into the void. Clint screamed, his bow clattering to the ground as he was swallowed by the portal.

Seconds later, his body reappeared, limp and broken, high above the battlefield. Clint fell, hitting the ground with a sickening thud.

"Clint!" Natasha screamed, rushing toward her fallen comrade. But there was nothing she could do. Clint lay motionless, his eyes staring blankly at the sky.

Natasha's face twisted in anguish, tears streaming down her cheeks as she cradled his lifeless body.

Ethan watched with cold indifference. "One by one, you fall. You are nothing compared to me."

The remaining heroes regrouped, bloodied and battered, but not broken. Steve Rogers stood at the center, his shield cracked but still firm in his grip. Tony hovered above, his suit sparking as it tried to repair itself. Thor limped toward the group, his face bruised, Mjölnir in hand. Reed Richards, still reeling from the loss of his arm, used his remaining strength to protect the injured.

"We're not done yet," Steve said, his voice filled with resolve.

Ethan laughed. "You don't understand. I control this entire battlefield. I can kill you all with a thought."

"Not if we stop you first," Tony growled, his eyes narrowing.

But just as they prepared for another assault, the sky above them darkened. A massive shadow fell across Xandar, and the ground trembled beneath them.

The heroes looked up, their faces pale with shock.

A massive fleet of ships had appeared in the sky, led by the imposing figure of the Sanctuary II.

"What… what is that?" Peter Parker whispered, his voice barely audible through the comms.

Steve narrowed his eyes. "Something else is coming."

From the center of the fleet, a massive figure descended toward the battlefield, his purple skin glinting in the light of the collapsing city. His eyes burned with cold fury, and the Infinity Gauntlet, though incomplete, gleamed on his hand.

The heroes stared in stunned silence as the figure landed before them, his gaze sweeping across the ruined landscape.

Thanos had arrived.

For a moment, the battlefield fell silent, the only sound being the crackling energy from Ethan's portals.

Thanos looked at Ethan with a mixture of curiosity and disdain. "So, you are the one causing this disturbance in my universe."

Ethan smirked. "And who are you supposed to be?"

Thanos' eyes glinted with menace. "I am Thanos. And I will restore order."

The heroes exchanged confused glances. Few of them had ever heard of Thanos, but they could feel the weight of his presence, the overwhelming power that radiated from him.

Ethan tilted his head, intrigued. "You think you can challenge me?"

Thanos took a step forward, his voice a low growl. "You have tampered with forces you cannot comprehend. Now, you will face the wrath of a true god."

The battle for the universe was far from over.
