That’s Enough

"But I recognize your voice," Christopher stated coldly.

The man's voice was distinct, and Christopher could never mistake it.

"I'm sorry, I was wrong, spare me! I know I was wrong!"

Christopher's response was merciless: "Oh I am not gonna kill you, but just gonna break you hands, that's all."

His leniency towards the man was already a gesture of mercy. Any other super villain would have eradicated everyone associated with him, not just the individual himself.

The man continued to plead, banging his head against the ground until it bled, tears streaming down his face. "Please, don't hurt me, I beg you..."

Christopher tore through the wall, entering the man's room. Christopher proceeded to break the man's limbs.

This was the consequence of weakness daring to challenge strength.

Christopher leaped out of the house, landing in the middle of the street. His voice rang out, commanding and defiant: "Who else dares to challenge me?"

The thunderous roar reverberated through the air, shattering windows near Christopher and echoing into the distance, a testament to the power unleashed.

As the sound gradually faded, a heavy silence descended, broken only by the faint murmurs of the awakened residents who wisely chose to quell their anger.

Observing the subdued response, Christopher regained control of his emotions, reverting to his usual state before swiftly firing off several shots and gracefully returning to the rooftop from whence he came.

Mary, gazing upon Christopher's imposing figure like a god of war, felt her eyes welling up with tears of admiration. In her heart, she couldn't help but exclaim, "This is the man I desire."

Recalling Peter's timidity and constant reprimands from his boss, Mary contrasted his behavior with Christopher's assertiveness. Peter's reluctance to stand up for himself paled in comparison to Christopher's readiness to silence any challengers with his strength.

Regardless of Christopher's feelings towards her, Mary found herself drawn to him irresistibly, captivated by his masculine charm, dominance, and sheer presence.

Driven by her impulsive emotions, Mary rushed forward, enveloping Christopher in a tight embrace as she pleaded, "Christopher, please accept me!"

Concern etched on his face, Christopher gently rebuffed her advances, "Mary, why must you do this again? If you continue, I will have no choice but to...."

Mary lifted her tear-stained face, her eyes pleading for understanding, "Christopher, do you despise me so deeply?"

"It's not about hatred, Mary as friends, we're fine, but your behavior—" Christopher hesitated, struggling to find the right words.

"Are you doubting my sincerity towards you?" Mary interjected, her voice tinged with hurt.

"No, it's not that," Christopher reassured her.

Releasing her grip on Christopher, Mary swiftly scaled the guardrail, determination gleaming in her eyes. Turning back to face Christopher, she declared, "I will prove my sincerity to you now."

With unwavering resolve, Mary closed her eyes and leaped into the void.

Swiftly, Christopher shot out a strand of spider silk, wrapping it securely around Mary's waist to prevent any harm. With careful precision, he eased her descent, ensuring a safe landing.

Only when Mary was safely on solid ground did Christopher hoist her back onto the rooftop.

Mary's face bore no trace of fear or panic, only a radiant smile of contentment.

"What on earth are you doing? Are you out of your mind?" Christopher was bewildered.

How could someone who had just jumped off a building still find reason to laugh?

"You understand my sincerity, and I know you care about me, even if you won't admit it," Mary said, smiling.

"Ah," Christopher sighed.

He was utterly confounded by Mary's behavior.

Mary approached, enveloping Christopher in a gentle hug, resting her head against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat, and murmured softly, "I love you, and that's enough, whether you reciprocate or not."

Mary's words were undeniably moving.

Yet, Christopher couldn't shake off the memory of Mary and Peter declaring their love for him that very night.

He hesitated to accept Mary's sudden affection.

Love today could easily shift to someone else tomorrow. It seemed utterly unreliable.

Christopher remained silent, reluctant to say anything, for Mary was unpredictable. He feared that saying the wrong thing might prompt her to leap from the building again.

Thus, Mary clung to Christopher by the guardrail, motionless.

Half an hour passed.

Mary drifted off to sleep, unaware.

Christopher retrieved his phone and dialed Spider-Man's number. "Peter, your girlfriend's asleep. Come get her."

Christopher's well-intentioned message, however, met with an unexpected fury from Spider-Man.

"Christopher, you've gone too far. I entrusted Mary to you. But you slept with her, and you want me to pick her up. Do you take me for a pimp? Let me make it clear, while I may not be able to defeat you, I won't cower either," Spider-Man roared. Already green-skinned, he seemed to radiate anger in every hue but green.

"Uh—" Christopher began to explain, but before he could, Spider-Man delivered a blow that shattered his words.

"Are you trying to tell me you were playing 'snake and the lader' on the rooftop? Or do you think you haven't humiliated me enough already?" Spider-Man's voice reverberated with fury.

"For God's sake, Peter, can't you calm down?" Christopher retorted, his own temper flaring.

Mary, nestled in Christopher's arms, stirred slightly but remained asleep. Perhaps the trauma of Dr Lizard's confinement had taken a toll on her mental state, rendering her slumber deep.

"You slept with my girlfriend and expect me to stay calm?" Spider-Man bellowed.

"Listen, I didn't sleep with your girlfriend," Christopher explained desperately.

"Haha! Who are you kidding?" Spider-Man's tone dripped with sarcasm.

"Damn it, you—alright, if you're so insistent that I've slept with your girlfriend, then I might as well sleep with her now," Christopher snapped angrily.

His attempt to reconcile Spider-Man and Mary had backfired spectacularly. Frustrated by Spider-Man's unfounded accusations, Christopher's anger surged, propelling him to retaliate.
