Chapter 214: Avengers' Thoughts - Let's Get Rid of Star-Lord!

[10 chapter daily on Patreon]

And so, Bucky Barnes rode the motorcycle ahead, Steve Rogers drove the car behind in pursuit, and Sam Wilson was speeding towards them through the air.

Since Steve Rogers had taken the lead in the car, he quickly caught up to Bucky Barnes on the motorcycle.

T'Challa, who had been crouched at the back of the car, noticed this and leaped from the car's roof to its front. He lunged at Bucky Barnes, who was on the motorcycle.

Bucky Barnes turned around, one hand steering the motorcycle, and with the other, he reached into the air and grabbed T'Challa by the neck. T'Challa kicked off the side of the tunnel with his legs, flipped his body, and pulled Bucky Barnes down.

Fortunately, Bucky Barnes had his left arm in a metal sleeve, and he pressed his metal hand against the ground, allowing the motorcycle to continue moving forward.

A long trail of electric sparks followed the contact between his metal palm and the ground.

In the end, Bucky Barnes kicked backwards, sending T'Challa flying. He used his left hand to push himself back up onto his feet.

T'Challa quickly recovered from being kicked and immediately leaped onto the flying Sam Wilson. Sam Wilson looked down and forcefully kicked T'Challa with his foot.

However, T'Challa was incredibly agile. Not only did he not fall off Sam Wilson's leg, but he managed to flip himself onto Sam Wilson's back.

In the meantime, Bucky Barnes had just ridden out of a tunnel entrance. He casually threw a bomb toward the tunnel entrance, and with a loud explosion, the entrance collapsed.

Nevertheless, T'Challa burst out from the debris, his claws latching onto the motorcycle and causing Bucky Barnes to tumble over.

Steve Rogers also emerged from the rubble and continued to try to prevent T'Challa from catching Bucky Barnes.

As the three of them faced off, a large number of police officers surrounded them, with helicopters hovering overhead.

Bang!

War Machine, James Rhodes, descended from the sky, palms charged and a large gun mounted on his shoulder, aiming at the three of them.

The surrounding police officers all held submachine guns and had a look as if they were ready to open fire at any moment.

"Congratulations, Captain, you're a criminal now," James Rhodes said.

A swarm of police officers began to approach, placing handcuffs on Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes.

The video ended here.

"Mr. Barnes, sometimes I really envy you for having a friend like Captain Rogers who believes in and supports you unconditionally, no matter what," Scott Lang couldn't help but say to Bucky Barnes after watching the video.

"It's true that having Steve around is my good fortune," Bucky Barnes looked at Steve Rogers and smiled. "I never thought that when I turned a hundred, Steve would still be by my side."

"I never thought so either," Steve Rogers said. "You see, my previous dream was just to be able to join the military. I could never have imagined that at the age of a hundred, I would still be wearing the stars and stripes, fighting to prevent the destruction of the world. This situation is something I couldn't have foreseen."

[The eighth question begins, please prepare.]

[Before the battle on Titan with Thanos, how many possible futures did Doctor Stephen Strange observe?]

[A) 14 possibilities]

[B) 1400 possibilities]

[C) 140,000 possibilities]

[D) 14,000,000 possibilities]

[If you answer this question correctly, you will be rewarded with the Diamond Body - your body can transform into diamond. If you answer incorrectly, one year of your lifespan will be deducted.]

"Indeed, Stephen can observe the future," Tony Stark commented after reading the question.

"This ability is quite overpowered," Steve Rogers said. "No matter who the enemy is, as long as you observe the future first, then follow the path to victory, how could you possibly fail?"

"In theory, as long as the power difference isn't vast, Stephen would never fail," Bruce Banner said.

"It seems that the gap in strength between us and Thanos isn't so huge after all. Many of us could exchange a couple of blows with Thanos. Now that Stephen can also observe the future, it's hard to imagine any scenario where we would fail."

"Even though Stephen can observe the future, isn't this option a bit exaggerated?" Thor pointed at option D, "How many zeros are there? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, six zeros! Fourteen million!"

"Indeed, fourteen million possibilities is quite exaggerated," Pietro Maximoff also chimed in, "Does it take a very short amount of time for him to observe the future? Otherwise, would Thanos really give him enough time to see all those fourteen million possibilities?"

"Pietro, your imagination is seriously lacking," Tony Stark said, "Observing the future is completely unknown to us. Do you really think that Stephen observes the future like we watch videos in this answering space?"

"Then how does he do it?" Pietro Maximoff asked.

"I don't know either, I can't imagine it," Tony Stark replied, "But one thing's for sure, it definitely wouldn't take a very long time. Remember what Stephen had hanging around his neck? The Time Stone. We're the ones being played by time, while he can manipulate time."

"Stephen observes the future to find a way to defeat Thanos. Once he finds it, he won't keep looking. He only keeps looking if he hasn't found it yet," Steve Rogers said, "So from the frequency of his observations, we can also deduce the gap in strength between us and Thanos."

"Exactly, the bigger the gap between us and Thanos, the smaller the chance of winning, and the more future possibilities he has to explore," Bucky Barnes added.

"But I feel like the gap between us and Thanos isn't that big. Do we really need to explore fourteen million possibilities to find a winning future?" Nick Fury said.

"I agree," Stephen Strange said, "So, I think we should eliminate the lowest value of 14 and the highest value of 14 million, and choose between options B and C."

"You decide," Tony Stark said, "It's another question to answer based on your gut feeling."

"I choose..." Stephen Strange paused, "I choose B!"

In his view, 1400 possibilities were already excessive, but there were no options with a slightly lower number, so he went with the closest one.

[Answer incorrect! Deduct one year of lifespan!]

He got it wrong.

"Could it be 14 times?" Stephen Strange murmured.

"Perhaps it's 140,000?" Bruce Banner suggested.

"140,000 times?" Stephen Strange found that number absurd, "Is it really necessary to explore 140,000 times to find a winning future? It's impossible, right? Thanos isn't that formidable!"

"It's probably 14," Steve Rogers said, "With Stephen, Carol, Hulk, Tony, and Wanda all working together, I believe we can defeat Thanos."

Soon, the video began to play.

This time, members of the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy appeared together. Peter Parker, Tony Stark, along with Drax, Peter Quill, and Mantis stood together, seemingly discussing something.

"Do your friends do that often?" Mantis asked in astonishment, looking in one direction.

Everyone turned to look, and they saw Stephen Strange levitating with his legs crossed above the ground, his hands wrapped in a green halo, his entire body constantly phasing in and out.

"Strange, what are you doing?" Tony Stark couldn't make sense of it and couldn't help but ask.

"I followed time through parallel worlds a few times. In those worlds, I saw the outcomes of the great battle," Stephen Strange continued to phase for a while before explaining.

"How many outcomes did you see?" Peter Quill asked.

"Fourteen million, six thousand and five," Stephen Strange replied.

"How many times did we win?" Tony Stark asked.

"Once," Stephen Strange remained silent for a while before slowly giving the answer.

"What? Fourteen million times!" This number shocked everyone in the answering space. Tony Stark exclaimed, "That's way too many."

"Exploring fourteen million possibilities in such a short time..." Scott Lang was astonished, "That's incredible."

"Exploring fourteen million possibilities, and we only won once. The probability is incredibly low," Nick Fury's expression wasn't very optimistic.

"I still can't believe it. Exploring fourteen million possibilities, and we can only win once. Is Thanos really that powerful?" Natasha Romanoff said.

"I told you before, you've been judging his strength based on fragments of battles against Thanos in videos. His strength isn't just what you've seen in those videos," Loki interjected.

"Even if we've misjudged Thanos' strength, exploring fourteen million times is too much. Our chances of winning are only one in fourteen million..." Bruce Banner, the usually calm individual, couldn't believe it either, "This probability seems to tell us that fighting Thanos is almost as good as giving our lives away."

"I think everyone should ignore this data. Whether it's ten million times or a hundred million times, it's just possibilities of the future," Steve Rogers, the World War II veteran, remained unchanged in demeanor, "The ultimate result is that we won. The probability of losing is high, but it's just a probability. The fact is, we won."

"Captain is right, we won," Tony Stark also agreed, "We need to focus on the facts and not be too disturbed by probability numbers."

In the video, a portal opened, and Thanos' figure appeared.

"Oh, you're here," Stephen Strange sat there and greeted Thanos in a tone of an old friend, "You truly live up to your name."

"I guess the people I sent didn't make it," Thanos stood there and said, "That's truly a shame." Thanos' gaze fell on the Time Stone on Stephen Strange's chest, "But at least he fulfilled his mission."

"You will regret this," Stephen Strange said, "It was him that made you have to come and face me personally."

"Do you even know where you are right now?" Thanos asked.

"Let me guess, your old home?" Stephen Strange replied.

"Indeed." Thanos clenched his fist, and a red light flashed on the Infinity Gauntlet. The ruins before them instantly transformed into a beautiful landscape with mountains and clear waters. Thanos spoke, "This place used to be beautiful, just like other planets. But there were too many people, too many to sustain. When everyone was on the verge of starving to death, I came up with a solution."

"The Decimation?" Stephen Strange said.

"It was random, fair to all, without distinction. They all called me mad, but I guided this world through its adversity," Thanos said in a somber tone, "I'm just a survivor."

"An executioner attempting to murder trillions," Stephen Strange corrected.

"With the six Infinity Stones, I just need to snap my fingers lightly, and they will all vanish in an instant," Thanos raised his hand and snapped his fingers, the surrounding environment changed. He looked at Stephen Strange, "Don't you think this is a form of mercy?"

"And then what?" Stephen Strange stood up.

"And then I can finally rest, watching the vibrant new world illuminated by the setting sun," Thanos spoke with anticipation, "The hardest choices require the strongest wills."

"You'll find that our will is stronger," Stephen Strange extended his hands, and golden discs appeared on his palms.

"Our will?" Thanos caught the key point in Stephen Strange's words. He sensed that something wasn't right. He looked up and saw a ship descending straight towards him. In the next moment, the ship crashed heavily onto him.

"That was a piece of cake, Quill," Tony Stark flew in the air, pushing the ship. He saw Thanos being crushed and said happily to Peter Quill.

"Yeah, if you manage to tick him off," Peter Quill held his guns and charged forward.

Tony Stark flew even faster, overtaking Peter Quill in the blink of an eye and arriving in front of Thanos. He extended his hand, ready to attack, but the blue and red gems on Thanos' gauntlet shimmered one after another. The ship that had crashed suddenly turned into a swarm of moths and flew away.

Smack! A clump of spider silk suddenly plastered over Thanos' eyes, obstructing his vision. Drax, the Destroyer, approached, wielding his twin blades. He slashed at Thanos' leg, engaging in close combat.

Stephen Strange emerged from a portal and joined Drax in attacking Thanos. However, the result was that both Drax and Stephen Strange were repelled by Thanos.

Peter Quill also rushed forward. Stephen Strange reached out his hand, and spatial discs appeared, creating a pathway for Peter Quill to run on. Peter Quill used the discs to get close to Thanos and planted a bomb on his back.

Boom! The bomb exploded on Thanos, causing him to tilt forward slightly, but it didn't deal much damage.

"Don't let him make a fist," Stephen Strange instructed his cloak. The cloak flew over and wrapped around Thanos' left hand.

Stephen Strange began to draw circles, creating portals around Thanos that shifted him back and forth, confusing his movements. Peter Parker emerged from one of the portals and hammered at Thanos, but after a few hits, Thanos grabbed Peter Parker by the neck and slammed him onto the ground.

"Ant!" Thanos exclaimed and tossed Peter Parker aside like a toy. Then he struck Stephen Strange, sending him crashing to the ground.

Thanos ripped off the cloak that was entwined around his left hand.

Boom! At that moment, a massive explosion erupted behind Thanos. Tony Stark was attacking. He flew over, continuously firing missiles from his shoulder.

Suddenly, Thanos was engulfed in raging flames.

However, it was in vain. Thanos extended his hand, and the Infinity Stones on his gauntlet absorbed the flames. He then waved his hand, causing the flames to erupt again, swallowing Tony Stark, who was flying in the air.

Peter Parker arrived in time, using his spider silk to grab Thanos' hand and pull it away, preventing the flames from reaching Tony Stark.

Peter Parker used the silk to try and pull Thanos towards him, but Thanos remained steadfast. He pulled back, yanking Peter Parker towards him, and then delivered a powerful punch that sent Peter Parker sprawling.

After Peter Parker, Nebula lunged forward. She wielded her weapons and glared at Thanos, "You should have killed me back then."

"It's not too late to kill you now," Thanos replied.

"Where's Gamora!" Nebula angrily charged at Thanos. She attacked fiercely, but after a while of struggling, Thanos emerged unscathed, while Nebula was sent flying by a single punch from Thanos.

Stephen Strange took action. He extended his hands, releasing streams of red energy that entwined around Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet, attempting to remove the gauntlet.

Drax took advantage of this opportunity to dart in from behind, delivering a kick to Thanos' left leg, causing him to kneel on the ground.

Swoosh! Peter Quill launched a piece of metal that emitted a blue light, attaching to Thanos' right hand.

Peter Parker jumped in, continuously firing strands of webbing at Thanos, entangling him.

Tony Stark flew over as well, grabbing Thanos' left hand along with Stephen Strange, attempting to remove Thanos' gauntlet.

The members of the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy worked together and finally managed to restrain Thanos!

With his other hand, Stephen Strange drew a circle, and a golden portal appeared above Thanos' head. Mantis dropped from the portal and landed on Thanos' neck, her hands covering his head.

"Ah!!" At first, Thanos shouted, but he quickly closed his mouth, and his eyes began to change, showing a controlled expression.

"Is he being controlled?" Tony Stark asked on the side, "Hold on."

"Faster!" Mantis exerted all her strength, "He's too strong."

"Spider-Man, help!" Tony Stark shouted, using his webbing to pull Peter Parker towards Thanos, "She can't hold on much longer."

Peter Parker rushed over and also grabbed onto Thanos' gauntlet, pulling downward.

"I thought you'd be tougher to handle, but it seems my plan worked perfectly," Peter Quill flew over, standing near Thanos, "You can't stand up now, can you?" He took a couple of steps closer to Thanos, "Where's Gamora?"

"My Gamora," Thanos answered dazedly.

"Nonsense!" Peter Quill demanded, "Where's Gamora?"

"She's in great pain," Mantis reminded, "She's very sad."

"What is this monster so sad about?" Drax was skeptical.

"Gamora is dead," Nebula spoke up at this moment, "He took her to Vormir, he brought back the Soul Stone, but Gamora didn't return."

"Enough, Quill!" Tony Stark saw where this was going and quickly intervened, "You need to calm down now, do you understand?"

Peter Quill slowly turned his head. His expression indicated a volcano about to erupt. What did he care about the word "calm"?

"Don't, don't, don't be impulsive!" Tony Stark shouted loudly, "We're about to remove the gauntlet!"

"Tell me she's lying," Peter Quill looked at Thanos, "Damn it! Tell me you didn't kill her!"

"I..." Thanos spoke slowly, "I had to kill her."

"No, no, you're lying!" Peter Quill, full of rage, swung his fist, hammering Thanos' head.

Seeing this, everyone in the answer space was stunned. This guy actually did something like this?

Seeing that Thanos had been hypnotized, his consciousness lost, all they needed to do was remove his Infinity Gauntlet. Without the stones, what could Thanos possibly do?

And at such a critical moment, this guy actually went ahead and hammered Thanos' head for personal reasons?

Was he afraid Thanos wouldn't wake up and specifically tried to wake him up?

Damn, this was a trap!

"What the heck are you doing, Quill?" Tony Stark, in the answer space, looked at Peter Quill in shock, "Did you lose your mind? You chose to attack Thanos at that moment?"

"I had a hunch that Mr. Quill would mess things up," Clint Barton said, "He was going to wake Thanos up."

"It seems Gamora was your sweetheart," Tony Stark remarked to Peter Quill, "I get that you're sad about your sweetheart's death, but you're out of your mind! Even if you really couldn't resist hitting him, couldn't you have waited a few seconds? Wait until we've taken the gauntlet away before striking?"

"I wouldn't do such a thing," Peter Quill quickly distanced himself, "That wasn't me, definitely not me!"

"Quill, congratulations, you've single-handedly wreaked havoc on the entire universe," Stephen Strange chimed in.

"Thanos might not wake up. Everyone, let's not be so quick..."

Peter Quill couldn't finish his sentence because, in the video, Thanos had actually woken up!

At the very moment when Peter Parker was about to remove the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos opened his eyes!

In an instant, he yanked the gauntlet back with one hand, and with a swift motion, he threw the Mantis off his shoulder. Then he lifted his leg and tossed Drax, who was clinging onto him, sending him crashing into Tony Stark and Nebula.

Thanos then pulled his right hand, releasing the red energy band that had bound Stephen Strange's right hand, sending him flying.

And thus, all the effort to restrain Thanos was in vain, as he threw aside all those who had managed to hold him down. Thanos was now free.

Tony Stark, shooting while flying, came over, but with one swing, Thanos sent him tumbling. Peter Quill, Nebula, and Gamora charged forward, but just as they were about to reach him, Thanos waved his left hand, a blue light flashed, and the three were sent flying mid-air.

Tony Stark flew over once more, the armor transforming into a sharp weapon. However, he barely landed a punch on Thanos before being knocked away by a headbutt.

Tony Stark was trying to stand up when Thanos extended his left hand, directly pulling down a planet from the sky. Even before the planet arrived, fragments of it were already hurtling down, creating flames as they clashed with the atmosphere, resembling a series of deathly meteors.
