Chapter 24: Not Human
A few minutes later we arrived outside Grey’s cabin. He shifted into his human form and went inside for a pair of jeans. I followed, leaving the door open.
“It wasn’t Nikki,” he told me as he pulled on the jeans. “Declan is watching her today. She drove her grandmother somewhere and has been gone since first thing this morning.”
How did the woman get so close to us without you smelling her?” I asked.
“I was a little distracted.” His eyes twinkled into mine. “And the woman’s scent wasn’t shifter.”
“Is she human?” I asked. What would a human be doing with the rogue shifters who broke into the house to kill me?
“No, I don’t think she was human.” Grey’s brow furrowed. “Her scent was different from any other I’ve smelled.”
“She must have something against me,” I mused. “She almost hit me with that rock.”
