Chapter 1: It Begins With A Death

Well this is incredibly cliche.

I'm pretty sure I'm dead right now. How do I know this? Well, because the last thing I remember was frantically running across the street to push a child out of the way of a speeding truck. Which is also incredibly cliche, considering my current circumstance.

But at least, my death was quick and painless. The speed at which that 16-wheeler struck me insured that my brain was already mushed long before it can even register any pain signals. Thank God for small mercies, am I right?

Anyway, back to my current situation. Looking around, I am standing in a completely white room. A familiar white room. I've read so many novels and fanfics in my short life that I'm not entirely surprise to find myself standing here. One might say, I've been prepared for this all my life.

"Ahem, are you going to come join me anytime soon?"

Of course, to continue with the cliche, there is also an elderly Gandalf type man sporting a great white beard with matching white robe sitting in the middle of the room. He must be God or perhaps just a god. If this is like those novels I've read, he must be here to offer me some gifts before sending me off into another world.

Walking up to him, I sat down at the offered chair.

"Are you done admiring the view young man?"

"Yes, hello. So, am I dead?" I asked the old man sitting a crossed from me.

"Haven't you already answered that for yourself already?" The old man replied. Clearly amused by my question.

"I just wanted to make sure that all of this was real and not some drug induced dream. And that I didn't actually somehow survive that truck and my body is currently comatose and on enough drugs to knock out an entire frat party." I rambled on with a slight shivered hoping that this really wasn't a dream.

"Well, I guess fortunately for you this isn't a dream. You are indeed dead and I am here to grant you a wish before sending you off to another world." The old man answered. Albeit a bit too enthusiastic when announcing my death.

"So then what are the rules? How many wishes do I get? And where am I being sent afterward?" I questioned him.

"You get one wish. And that wish can be whatever you want that is within my power to grant. And then I will choose where to sent you after you've made your wish." The old man declared.

"That doesn't really answer too much old man. How am I suppose to know what you can grant and what's out of your power?" I argued.

"Just think of it like wishing on the dragon balls. Goku couldn't simply wish to be the strongest in the galaxy because that is above the power of the Earth's Shenron. I can grant a lot of things but if you start wishing to be a god or entity beyond my authority, like say a God of death, I won't be able to grant such wishes." The old man explained.

"So if I were to wish to be a Demi-god of death for example, that's ok?" I asked

"Sure, you'd have to pick a pantheon to associate with though. Is that your wish?" The old man replied.

"No, I was just asking an example." I quickly clarified. Obviously that's not my wish. If I wanted to be a god, I would want to have my own pantheon not join someone else.

Staring at the clearly amused old man before me, I starts to think about what I want my wish to be. I don't know yet where I will be going, and the old man refuse to tell me where he is going to send me.

Should I wish for an OP bloodline like Uchiha? Or maybe wish to be a Saiyan? Krytonian? No, I can't do that. As strong as any of those bloodline are, they are also very restrictive. Since I don't know where I am going, I don't want to end up stuck in a situation where I'm restricted to just chakra or ki or just plain kryptonian physique.

I need something more versatile. A Reality Marble? Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon? A Celestial Forge? Again no. Sure any of those would be plenty of power and versatility. I still feels that it would be such a waste of a wish to get only one. Call me greedy, but I do want all of that. An OP bloodline along with the awesome firepower of the Gate of Babylon and unparalleled crafting capabilities of the Celestial Forge.

Why am I hesitating? I'm suppose to be ready for this. I've played this situation out in my head countless times. Where I want to reincarnate. What powers I want. If it's versatility I am looking for as well as the potential to acquired all of the other powers I want, then there can only be one thing to wish for.

"I've made up my mind! I wish for a system that will belong to me and loyal only to me. This system will help me acquire other powers and to develop my strengths." I finally declared my wish to the old man.

"Hmm an uninteresting wish. Is that your final choice? Locking it in? No regrets?" The old man questioned. Clearly trying to psych me out.

"Yes, that is what I want. Now hurry up old man and tell me where you're going to send me." I said hurriedly, anxious to know where I am headed to. Oh I hope it's not some deadly world like Warhammer 40k. That would suck.

"Yare yare, kids these days. No patience. Alright, your wish is granted. You will be getting a system that will belong to you and you only. Absolutely loyal. And will be there to assist and help you develop and grow stronger." The old man declared nonchalantly.

"As for where you're going. For an uninteresting wish you will be sent to an uninteresting world. Congratulations! *Drum rolls* You will be reincarnated into the Marvel universe!" The old man declared in a mocked enthusiastic tone.

"What do you mean uninteresting shitty old man. You should've said earlier if I was going to Marvel. Why all the secrecy?" I asked angrily. I could've totally been a Kryptonian or a Saiyan and spank some Mad Titan around the galaxy.

"Uninteresting because everybody chooses to go to Marvel, or Naruto, or One Piece nowadays. And everybody wants a goddamn system. It's like you mortals have forgot how to make wishes and just make the lazy choice of asking for everything by wishing for a system. If you had wished for something different I would've sent you somewhere else." The old man ranted to me.

"Well then what were your criteria for choosing where to send me?" I asked feeling adequately chastised.

"Well, depending on how powerful your wish was I would've sent you to a correspondingly powerful and dangerous world." The old man answered while leaning back into his chair. His earlier bitterness now gone from his tone.

"So where would you have sent me if I had wished to be a Demi-god of death or something similar?" I asked curiously.

"Hmm well, depending on what pantheon you associate with. I probably would've sent you to some dark DC comic verse or something. Or had you chosen to not join any pantheon, I would've sent you to Warhammer 40k and tying you to one of the Chaos Gods." The old man answered easily.

I stared at the old man. Wishing he was joking with me. Because, are you freaking serious!? I almost could've been sent into freaking Warhammer kill everything and anything not human blood for the blood God freaking 40k!? Holy crap I dodged the proverbial bullet!

"You know what old man. I'll stick to my uninteresting wish. And I'm ready to go to an uninteresting world. Send me off!" I declared after attempting to strike this freaking old man down with my nonexistent heat vision. After seeing that my glare had absolutely no effects, I decided to just give up and move on with this situation.

"We'll alright young man. If you're sure and ready to go. I'll send you off. As the young people say! Sayonara!" The old man waved goodbye to me.

And with a snap of his fingers, I was gone.

Hey guys! Here’s my take on the reincarnation/wish granting chapter. I’ve read so many of these that these days, I tend to just speed read through or simply skip them altogether.

So I hope my attempt at making a slightly more fresh take on an otherwise stale trope works as intended.
