Chapter 9

Life seemed to fade in and out for Jade. Blurred visions of everything around him seemed to flood him like crashing waves of a tsunami. It felt to him like his very life in that moment was over as his entire body was colder then he had ever felt before. This was his second life and yet in that moment all he could see was a blurred vision of Silvester hovering above him as the man threw Jade's wing away like trash. There were drops of blood in the air around him as he found himself falling towards the city.

In that moment as he fell everything felt like it was slowing down. He could see the memories of his past life flashing before his eyes. Things seemed ironic in a way for him as he thought about how he was living a second life and yet it was his first one that he thought of in such a situation. He only had one wing left on his back and every so often he could muster up just enough strength to try and slow his fall but the pain he felt in his body seemed endless. It was like nothing he had experienced before.

"Jade! Bitch, snap out of it!" He could hear a familiar voice yelling out to him from below. It was a voice that he usually only heard over the phone. He had only met the person a few times in person when situations required it.

Ah.. I'm too tired.. Jade thought to himself as his eyes slowly closed themselves.

The sudden impact to the ground jolted his eyes back open with a loud gasp as he inhaled sharply. There was not enough strength left in his body to scream from the sudden pain. He wanted to fly back up after Silvester in that moment for causing him to fall to such a state. In his mind he swore he would kill the man if he ever got the chance. He had mistaken his target and that was all on him for thinking of things from such a simplistic view. His body had never been wounded to such an extent before. Would he even heal from what the man had done to him?

Everything felt hazy to him but he was certain he could see a pair of blue eyes glaring at him with a worried expression. At least he thought it was a worried expression but he did not trust his own judgement enough in the state he was in. Just like always there was also something hidden behind the expression the man was giving him. He was certain what he was looking at was the man from the phone who hired him for the targets he went after. The blue eyes and tan hair of the well dressed man was not something he could easily forget; given the fact he rarely communicated with others in this world.

"Lo... Logan.." The weak and trembling Jade forced out the name of the person he was sure he was looking at while the world was fading in and out around him.

The more time passed the more things faded in and out. Most of the night he could not recall a thing that went on around him. One second he was certain he was glancing at his blood soaking the white shirt that Logan was wearing as he was being helped to Logan's car. In the next moment he would open his eyes to see his apartment building. There were even times when he could have swore he heard the man calling out to him but everything that was spoken to Jade was incoherent given the state he was in.

"Mmphm.." The bright light shining from the windows began to force Jade from his deep slumber.

"You're up?" Logan called out to him from across the apartment in the living area. He was sitting with a cup of coffee while reading something on Jade's laptop.

"Hah.. So it wasn't just a nightmare." Jade spoke out loud as if he was reassuring himself that the events last night really had indeed happened to him. His hand slowly slid up til his arm was covering his face. His teeth were grit tightly shut as he could still feel the burning pain in his body and his back was extremely uncomfortable as it felt like something very dear to him was missing. It was like someone had carved out a chunk of who he was and left him feeling even emptier then he already felt on his own.

"If you know that you should listen to me next time before diving into sh-"

"Seeing your face really is a nightmare.. Hah.." Jade forced out a joke in the moment to try and stop the man from going on a rant. He was not in the mood to hear someone talking so much to him. Glancing around slowly he could tell that he was home and for that he knew he should thank Logan for pulling him out of the gutter last night but there was something inside Jade that just told him to leave it alone.

"Your life isn't a game. If you don't take things seriously at the beginning of it all than at the end of the day when you lose you can't get a replay." Logan said before taking a drink of the coffee in his hand. His voice was cold towards Jade as if he was angry at him for jumping in without listening to him more.

"The hell are you now a philosopher?" Jade's face darkened at the thought that Logan was acting kind towards him since he was wounded.

"Bitch, I will leave your ass on the street to die next time." Logan glared at him with a slight killing intent. If it was Logan who said he would leave him to die than Jade surely would believe that. Logan was the one who paid him to kill the names he gave him so if he wanted Jade dead he was certain the man could easily find the way to have it done. Most things about Logan were a complete mystery but there were still a lot of things that were obvious to the eye when enough time was spent dealing with him.

The man was clearly rich given the amount of cash he was able to throw away at the drop of a hat just to see someone die. He was not the type to involve himself personally in an affair unless he wanted something out of it or felt his presence was needed. When it came to those who worked for him he had them watched very closely so that when they became useless in his eyes he could easily get rid of them. If Jade was known as a devil than when comparing him to Logan it was like Jade was merely Lucifer while Logan was Satan himself. He could come off harmless but that was only if you tread carefully enough not to set him off.
