Chapter 10

"Why are you here, Logan?" Jade asked as he tried to force himself to sit up. The air of the room caused his back to sting and a burning sensation flooded his veins causing him to hiss out slightly.

He could see Logan slowly placing his cup of coffee down which made him wonder how serious the situation was that could have Logan finding him in person. Logan closed the laptop that he was staring at before and turned his eyes towards Jade. There was a stern look to him as if he wanted to scold Jade for something.

"How many times have I told you to stop hanging up on me?" Logan asked him bluntly with a sense of rage in his throat that deepened his question. It caused a shiver to run down Jade's spine to hear his voice sound so stern.

"If you didn't hang up on me last night you would have been aware of what you were going into. It was a meeting for damned demi humans who are hiding among this city. I used you for it because you could have blended in if you paid attention!"

"Well, I-" Jade wanted to say something to calm the man down because he had started to yell at him but he only got cut off.

"Shut up! If I hadn't been here last night and caught the live feed of that bastard chasing you over the damn city you could have bled out and died like the trash you are!" Logan shouted so loud that it wouldn't surprise Jade if the whole city itself had heard him screaming at him. It was not possible in reality but that was how it felt in the moment.

"I'm sorry." Jade said the only two words he could think of in hope that Logan would calm down. He was use to being insulted by the man so he felt the best thing was to just accept it for now and let it go. He was in no position to fight back right now and he needed the man to continue paying him in the future. There was no way Jade wanted to go back to being some weak person like he was in his past life so he was not willing to stand against the one person who could easily pay him and help him keep his title as a devil feared by all.

"You're to stay low for a while and heal yourself. I don't want some half dead idiot getting himself killed on the job." Logan said as he stood up.

"Stay low?! If I do that wont that risk-" A million thoughts started to flood his mind as Jade began to panic over being told to himself while he heals his wounds. If the city began to forget about him what would become of his title as the city devil?

"Risk? What risk? Your already all over the web.. The city's Jade Devil was torn down from his throne by another!" The words Logan spoke were so cold as if he was mocking him for destroying his own undefeated title as a killer in the city. If there was one thing that held true for this world it was that the strong were the ones who stood at the top and at the slightest sight of weakness a person's life could crumble before them. The fact that Jade had been so publicly humiliated by Silvester was something that could easily cause everything that Jade had worked for to fall apart before his own eyes.

My life.. What.. What do I do now.. Jade thought to himself as he sat there on his bed. What good is a devil who can be dethroned? No matter how he looked at it even if he was to become and angel tomorrow what use was an angel with one wing? His whole life had been thrown into turmoil and now he did not know which way his future would turn for him.

Logan only took a few more moments to glare at him as if he was judging whether or not he had any future worth for him. It would not surprise Jade if the man gave up on him being useful to him given the situation but he only sighed slightly. Turning to leave the apartment he never gave Jade so much as a goodbye or any further words towards the given situation. If he had use for Jade in the future he would contact him at that time and not a moment before it.

With what little strength he could bring himself to stand up he paced himself towards his living room. He wanted to sit on his sofa but he barely managed to make it to his living room before his body gave out. Using his arms he managed to drag his weak body towards the coffee table and open his laptop. His side was leaning against the sofa while he sat there on the floor. Pulling up the local news he could already see the articles about himself all over the place. His humiliation really did run deep this time and he was not sure how he would get past it.

"Sil... Silvester.." He cursed the name of that man under his breath with so much hatred he could feel his body burning at the mere thought of the man.

"Mew~" The small calico cat hopped onto the sofa behind him. It's body was rumbling with a welcoming purr to show that it was happy to see it's master. Jade's body was shaking from the pain and his nerves but the warmth of the sound seemed to soothe him slightly. He could feel the calico cat's head as it repeatedly rubbed it's head against his shoulder in attempt to get attention. If it was able to speak he was sure the cat would be asking him why he was on the floor and not up on the sofa to give it attention. No matter how cute the small thing was there was no calming his heart over everything going on but at least he could pretend in that moment that he did not feel as alone in the world as he felt.
