Chapter 23

After the incident that day Jade never did try to clear things up with Noel right away. In fact he was so worried about what Logan might do that he avoided even going to the bar for the next few weeks. To avoid running into Noel in the building he'd leave by leaping from his apartment if he had somewhere to go and went as far as to avoid going back home during the hours that he knew Noel could be around. It almost felt as though he was trying to avoid a plague in his own home.

It was not without incident, however, because Logan had begun randomly showing up at his place without a hint of warning. At times if Noel was passing by the hallway he would deliberately latch his arm around Jade's neck to add fuel to the fire that he had already lit. As much as Jade felt a desire to fix the situation he refrained from doing so. He could see the clear look of pain in Noel's eyes every time he'd catch the glance of Logan around Jade in the hallway. Something about the whole situation reminded Jade of a dog marking its territory.

"How long are you going to keep doing this, Logan?" Jade asked as he laid there on his bed flat on his back. His eyes were closed as he tried his best to think of a way to fix his current situation. There was no telling for him how much longer he could continue to deal with a territorial Logan taking over his apartment.

"Doing what exactly?" Logan asked as his eyes glanced over at Jade from where he stood.

"You know what I mean.. I told you before that there is nothing between me and the barkeep. He's harmless and you're deliberately trying to piss him off." Jade sighed heavily.

"Nothing.. Harmless.." Logan muttered the two words under his breath as a smirk slowly formed on his face. He did not buy into Jade's words in the slightest and he was aware that Jade wanted to believe it. If there was one thing he knew about Jade it was that the man did not like to make attachments to others so the idea of him gaining feelings for another was not going to be something he would allow himself to realize without reason.

"What?" Jade asked as he failed to hear what Logan had muttered. Jade leaned up slightly on his arm as Logan started to pace himself over to the bed.

"You really do not understand the threat he is to you.." Logan reached out his hand towards Jade's face. His fingertips just barely grazing against the man's face as they slowly traced their way downward against his neck he so desired to strangle. He found Jade's skin beautiful yet the idea of another touching it made him desire to grasp that neck tight until the life breathing from it faded from existence. Retreating his hand from Jade he placed it lightly against his own mouth as he fell into a deep thought.

"What is it?" Jade asked as he tried to understand the look on Logan's face. It was not something he felt comfortable seeing and chilled him to the bone.

"It's nothing." A smile filled Logan's face as he began to stand up. "I shall head out now."

"You're leaving? Really?" The idea of Logan leaving so easily was not something he had expected to hear from his own mouth.

"Yes. I have something to take care of." Logan quickly fled from Jade's apartment before he could hear anything further from him.

It was not until he was out of the building and a block away before his figure slipped into a nearby alleyway. The area was shaded heavily so it was hard to make out the appearance of anyone who stood too close to the buildings but he could see the shape of a man standing ahead of him. The man was wearing all white and had long white hair. As he stepped out of the shadows towards Logan his glassy blue eyes stared deep into Logan's for a moment before he paused and stood in front of him.

"You wanted to see me?" The man in white asked while looking around to make sure no one was able to hear their conversation.

"Yes, I need you to look into someone for me." Logan got straight to the point. He was not in the mood to drag things out longer then required. Especially not when it came to talking with the man in front of him. It was hard enough to keep the man under control without setting him off.

"You want me to look into that bird boy of yours, right? What was his name again?" The man sighed as he responded with a question as if he had forgot all about Jade.

"Right and his name is Jade. You couldn't have forgot his name already given what I had you do that day. After all he is the same thing you are so I know you're aware of doing that meant." Logan waved his hand in the air as if he was trying to forget the whole thing himself.

"It's not like that's his real name the damn guy keeps that shit sealed tight ever since I heard his name going around this city. Don't worry about it though I'll take care of it." He responded as he turned to walk away.

"Silvester," Logan called out to him before he could leave his sight. "don't get him involved. Not yet."

"Got it." The man in white responded with a smile that was sweet only on the surface. It was obvious that he wanted to get further involved so that he could truly toy with Jade.

Logan knew that Silvester had taken an interest in Jade the moment he realized the man had no knowledge of what he truly was. Silvester did not meet many of his own kind very often so finding another was truly something fascinating to him. It only made it more interesting to know the man was unaware of his own species. Controlling Silvester when he had no interest was hard enough but when he became interested in something it made it all the more difficult for Logan to keep that man under his control.
