Chapter 38 - Mass Hunting (2)

Lily stayed on the ceiling of the tunnel for a while, listening in on the conversation they had below.

They weren't speaking about anything particularly important. It was mainly small talk between the young girl, who was seemingly called Cara as her name— or maybe a nickname of some sort— and the lady wearing the odd hat, whom Clara called Dreamer.

Hearing the name that she called the lady made Lily remember one of the mutants in the Marvel Comics she had encountered before while browsing.

It was a very minor memory, which was why she didn't instantly think of it— after all, she only read about it once or twice at most— and she usually wouldn't even remember it. Still, thanks to her increase in mental capabilities, her memories were much better than before.

Beautiful Dreamer, she was a Morlock that had some sort of confrontation against the Power family in one of the comics.

Lily never read all the comics or actively kept up with them, only reading the few she came across or trendy ones, so she didn't know much about what happened in that particular comic.

But she did remember a bit about the lady's powers; she could alter memories.

It was a handy ability, but it also had its limitations; one of those was going to be very helpful to Lily in dealing with her.

And that was the fact that it took time to do. She couldn't instantly alter someone's memories— she had to carefully craft the new memories with her mind.

That way, Lily could deal with her quickly before she had time to mess with her mind.

As for the other lady, Lily knew nothing about her.

She rarely spoke, her personality didn't seem the best, and the other two mainly conversed among themselves without even mentioning her name or anything.

So Lily had no idea what her name or abilities were, which may prove to be dangerous when she attacked them.

However, even if she didn't know their powers, she would still attack them because it was necessary for her plan.

It would simply be a waste to not devour them. Especially so for Dreamer, who had an ability that could prove to be very useful for her.

But she didn't act rashly because of this revelation— she spent a little more time listening in, just a few more minutes.

"Poser and Matchstick said that they met the X-Men!"

Spoke the young girl to Dreamer as they were conversing. Lily could hear the excitement and jealousy in her voice.

"X-Men? Where did they meet them?"

Replied Dreamer as she was curious about the story.

"I don't know. But they did say they met them."

"I see. Do you want to meet them?"

Dreamer asked the girl, but she didn't even need to ask to know the answer was going to be a yes.

"Of course, they are so cool. I can't believe more people don't know about them. They are heroes!"

Ah, her innocents made Lily even more reprehensive to kill her, but she didn't allow her lingering emotions to get in the way of her growth. Instead, she began to act, crawling above the group slowly and softly.

"When is she coming?"

Spoke the other lady that had been quiet all this time.

Dreamer turned to look at her before glancing down the tunnel path and looking back.

"I'm not sure. She should be here by now."

She replied while shaking her head.

They were naturally talking about the old lady from before— even Lily could figure out that much— they most likely had plans to meet up for something, but that wasn't going to happen.

Now that the old lady was late, she was starting to get impatient and antsy, so Lily decided to act.

Just like with the old lady, she dropped down from the ceiling and crashed directly onto the lady whom she knew nothing about.

She didn't want to take the risk of her power being dangerous, so she had to get rid of her first in a surprise attack. Plus, this way, the other two would be confused and stunned for a while, allowing her to act.

And she was right— when the girl suddenly dropped from above and came crashing down onto their comrades— breaking her back and killing her in the process— they were both stunned and horrified.

Especially Cara, who was still young and hadn't seen something so graphic up close before.

"What the hell!?"

She screamed in shock as Lily dropped on top of the dead woman's corpse before turning to look at them.

Lily didn't give them time to reorganize themselves before acting, her nails extending out like blades as she swung at the young girl's neck, slicing it.

She tried her best to make it as quick and as painless as she could because while she may have been a murderer, she didn't want to be a heartless one.

The girl died before Dreamer could even react, and by the time she realized that both her allies were dead, the realization that she was next had already dawned on her.

"Ah!"

She screamed in surprise and horror before Lily swung her hand at her face, gouging her claws into her left eye and killing her instantly.

She did this for two reasons, the first was that she wanted to kill her quickly and easily before she had the time to mess with her mind, and the second was the fact that she wanted to preserve as much blood as she possibly could from her.

Stabbing through her eye would leave only one wound that she could block from bleeding out, which she did with a piece of the woman's clothing.

She didn't want to risk not gaining enough information to make her ability.

'Three more down.'

She thought to herself as she retracted her nails and looked down at the bodies around her.

'Was it this easy to kill mutants?'

No, it wasn't, they were just weak, and she knew that.

Not to mention she wasn't weak by any means, compared to the higher or even street-level heroes; sure, she was weak, but those that dwelled in the sewers were much weaker than she currently was.

At least most of them were; she still had to be wary of the leaders and hidden abnormalities.

For anyone wondering, the mutants in this chapter are called;

Carapace

Beautiful Dreamer

Lightning Bug

They appeared in some of the comics, but there wasn't a lot of information about them.
