The sun had just begun to rise, and Rala woke up at 6 a.m. He climbed to the roof and sat crossed-legged, beginning to meditate. Rala felt the mana circulating through his body and passing through his cells like the one he felt during the transformation.
This energy entered his body through his pores and diffused through his lungs. It appeared to be floating in the air like a dust particle, and as they approached his body, they were pulled towards him, entering his body like a magnet to metal. His body responded instinctively, and the energy appeared to scatter after entering his body, strangely disappearing.
Rala realized the issue after seeing what was going on inside his body. He studied the respiratory system unit in biology and knew how inefficient this absorption method was, which could be fatal if he ran out of energy. Our lungs have evolved to take in oxygen in the most effective method possible, which is by taking enormous amounts of oxygen at once. It would be far more efficient if this energy followed the same path as the oxygen when we inhale.
Rala succeeded in inhaling a considerable quantity of the strange particle into his mouth at the same time, traveling down his trachea into his bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli. But instead of being diffused like oxygen, they suddenly disappeared. For a moment, Rala was perplexed, wondering where the energy could have gone.
Suddenly, he remembered the strange mist in the white room. "But how could I get into that strange roo-" Rala didn't get to finish his thought as he suddenly found himself in the same white room.
Rala was surprised as he thought, "So I just have to think about coming here, and I will magically appear here, neat!"
Looking around, Rala noticed the mist kept getting bigger although slowly to the point you wouldn't think it was until you watched for a while. Another thing Rala noticed was the first time he got there, the mist was surrounding the cat statue, funnelling into it. But this time, it was just floating around aimlessly with no purpose other than growing.
After a couple of minutes, Rala left the room, and his consciousness returned. He cleared the dirt off of his pants and got ready to go to school.
As Rala was heading to school, he overheard Ned and Peter discussing something.
"You could have died, you know," Ned stated as he examined the damage inflicted by the laser beam. Peter didn't respond, but his expression indicated that he recognizes the danger. "Why was he about to die?" Rala chose to play a little game with Ned. "Well, ah, since he was here to.. get a sandwich," said Ned.
"Oh, sandwich, in the middle of the night," Rala responded, his expression doubtful. "Yeah, because he has this nighttime craving for a sandwich," Ned explained, looking to Peter for assistance. "Yeah, I was especially hungry last night, so I came to eat something," Peter lied.
But Rala didn't seem to care. He was wondering why he was talking to them since he doesn't interact with them personally, probably because Peter was the only super-powered individual that Rala was familiar with.
They got to school, and the rest of the day went like usual except for Ned bumbling and Peter with questions. Their gym teacher showed a video of Captain America. "It's just Spiderman! Did you guys see the bank security cam video on YouTube? He fought off four guys," Liz said.
"Oh my god, she's crushing on Spiderman," exclaimed a guy sitting with Liz. "Oh, gross! What if he's like 30?" he continued.
"I don't care. I would still love him for the person he is inside," said Liz defiantly.
"Peter knows Spiderman," shouted Ned, grabbing everyone's attention. The room fell silent. "I don't know him, like I-" Peter began to deny it, but Flash interrupted him. "They're friends, yeah, like Coach Wilson and Captain America are friends," he sneered.
Rala, who had been sitting quietly in the corner, suddenly stood up and walked towards Flash, giving him a meaningful gaze. Flash tried to ignore him, but Rala wasn't having it. He climbed the rope at lightning speed, leaving everyone in awe.
"Why? You're friends with Parker now?" asked Flash, reluctantly.
"Yeah, so?" shot back Rala, causing Flash to back down. The bell rang, signalling the end of gym class. "Thanks," said Peter. "Don't worry about it," replied Rala.
The group dispersed, but the conversation about Spiderman lingered in the air. Liz couldn't shake the thought of him out of her head. She had always admired him from afar, but now she found herself inexplicably drawn to him. She knew it was crazy, but she couldn't help how she felt.
