I Can Fight, Too! - II

Kai was sure of himself as he gave the command this time. The answer had been in front of his skull throughout his time in this place. It was a cruel world where the ones who survived did so by taking things from others.

"I was truly an idiot," Kai whispered to himself.

He had been approaching even life-and-death situations with a certain level of humour whenever possible. If he acted as if it was all a play, perhaps it would be. To protect himself, he made jokes and if nothing else, entertained himself.

Not that he would change that about himself, but what if his half-hearted actions cost the life of that kid?

His zombies' groans turned into shrieks. They threw themselves at the demons one after another with a single goal: to rip them apart however possible. One of Kai's undead bit into one of the demons albeit getting killed in the process. But the damage was also done.

What Kai didn't know was that the zombies were still creatures with a very slight level of sentience. They would unknowingly preserve themselves, or at least wouldn't destroy themselves to get their teeth in. When they attacked, it was to eat, or perhaps to destroy. But when Kai ordered the death of those demons, even that bit of sentience the zombies had disappeared.

A necromancer's control over its undead creatures was comparable to his or her closeness to death itself. The understanding one had over death greatly influenced their power. And although he never noticed, he was the embodiment of death in the current body he occupied.

His purple eyes glowed threateningly with enough intensity to burn into the souls of the demons. There were few things scarier than someone who you know has already decided to take your life. When this person is a towering skeleton, it is absolutely terrifying.

The Crow analysed that these demons were veterans, so Kai's burning gaze only served to make them cautious, not afraid. Even though they were low levelled soldiers only powerful with their numbers, a well-trained soldier was nothing to scoff at, nonetheless.

She understood that if they had a skilled commander with them, even a score of them would be hard to handle by herself. Perhaps she would have to ask for Bear's and Deer's help.

"Wow, Big Bro Skelly sure is cool!"

The Crow opened her eyes wide and took a defensive stance in a split second. The voice had come from the kid she had made to sleep. Arthur showed no fear nor hostility. He was neither cautious nor did he even emit any feelings of dislike against her.

The Crow's speciality lied with her mental strength rather than her brawn. Through her connection to spells of such quality, she was a master at sensing the feelings and, if the person was simple enough, even thoughts of others in a certain radius.

The reason she was on guard against Kai was due to the quality he had displayed to save this kid currently in front of her. If one had the quality of absorbing the magic in the air as Kai did, it was possible why he looked like a black spot in the world to the Crow in her mind's eye. She leaned in, still wearing her mask signifying a crow and asked the kid,

"Are you not afraid of me?"

The Crow could read this kid quite clearly, yet he still managed to hide himself while approaching her. The Crow never let her voice be heard by others, yet there were two exceptions today. Furthermore, this child only looked at her with true wonder, even though there were dead bodies around and she was covered in their blood.

Arthur scratched his head in confusion and asked, "Why would I be afraid of you, lady?"

The Crow's eyes softened, and her attitude became more amiable against the kid. She turned her head at Kai, signalling the kid to do the same. The two wore kind smiles on their faces as they watched Kai and the demons slaughter each other.

However, the Crow kept an eye on Arthur, studying him further. Albeit being a regular child with no special abilities whatsoever seemingly, he looked to be in tune with the universe itself. She attributed the kid's skipping through her detection field to his harmony with the world around him.

"Just give up!" yelled a demon soldier as it hit Kai with his shoulder at full strength, tearing through his zombies. The demons became more anxious by the second.

"If the witch recovers, we'll die for nothing!" yelled yet the second demon and hit Kai with a mace he picked up from one of the corpses. If they could somewhat break him, they could at least bring him away.

With an adrenaline rush, the demon's hit actually caused Kai's ribs to slightly crack and sent Kai flying towards the Crow and the kid next to him. Arthur may be an odd child, but he still didn't want to be crushed under a hulking skeleton.

He closed his eyes and yelled in fright, "AAAAAAHH!"

Arthur heard a whooshing sound in the air, a thump, the sound of bones creaking in that order. When he opened his eyes again, he saw the Crow standing as if she had just punched something. The skeleton hurled towards them seemed to be flying in the opposite direction.

"FUCK YOOOOU!" Kai yelled as he flew back at the demons.

Certainly, he seemed almost impervious, but he could also see that the Crow's punch had taken yet another ten minutes off his life.

*19:59:59*

That last punch had finally dropped him under 20 hours. However, he didn't lose his resolution. Even though his zombies were almost completely destroyed. There was still one of them standing.

Also, the demons were also looking pretty beaten up. They were made of flesh and were tired of fighting already. Kai could continue. He issued a new mental command to his one good zombie that could still help with his Light of Death spell active.

The remaining zombie suddenly collapsed on the ground and moved no further. Kai was alone. He appraised the demons from left to right. Albeit being veterans, these enemies were lower-ranked demons. He had a better chance.

Hello again!

The next chapter will follow today so that this battle does not give anyone PTSD that some of us got from certain anime series when we were kids.

What do you guys think about the new cover? Better, worse?
