22 I Can Fight, Too!

"I don't need the help of one of your kind!"

It was her voice again, yet Kai only heard it inside of his head. She sounded almost disgusted, but neither scared nor angry. As soon as she sent him that message, Kai noticed that she was certainly right, perhaps she wasn't in a tight spot. Kai clearly saw her getting cut multiple times and her heart was pierced.

But her wounds were visibly healing, her punctured chest had already almost closed, and there was no more blooding coming out. It seemed that perhaps she wasn't playing tough, she actually needed no help. Against more than twenty demons, she alone was more than enough.

And even though Kai's help seemed monumental, and his timing was perfect, his zombies were far too weak. Every time a demon fell to the Crow, Kai raised him, hiding behind her. And even though his zombies were weak, they wouldn't be rendered useless by losing their limbs or getting slashed. Their head would have to be severed or completely destroyed.

"Summon Undead, Summon Undead!" Kai kept mumbling whenever he found the chance.

*Summon Undead Level 2 has been achieved*

*Player's undead are more tenacious. Range increased to 10 metres*

"Fuck yeah!" Kai yelled as he ran back further to a safer spot. "Get me here if you can!" he screamed at the demons, riling them up.

Each time the Crow struck, another demon would fall or at least lose a limb. Some of the veteran demons, seeing that it wasn't even possible to win anymore with the added help from the skeleton, decided to withdraw.

In a matter of minutes, multiple squads had either fallen or would fall soon. Even the crazed attacks from the younger demons mattered not. The veteran demons opened up a path for one of the younger demons to return and bring more of theirs. Even if should they fall, the veterans knew they would be avenged.

One of the younger demons, scratched and bitten by Kai's weak undead, was given passage with the aid of the senior demons, bent on bringing the news back to Barbas, the Revered Scholar.

The number of undead currently numbered ten while there were only a few older demons left defending their path. The Crow could easily catch and dispatch the last one, as well, but she respected their sacrifice, even though they would be nameless figures fading away from her memory soon.

She grabbed another of the demon soldiers by the throat and squeezed with her claws until she bathed in his blood. The Crow hated these civilizations wantonly destroying nature, and just as they said she was given exceptional treatment, in her eyes, so were they. But trespassing into her own home, now that was a foolish move.

The remaining three demon soldiers were on guard and shaking in front of this beastlike creature staring right at them. They didn't even know it was a 'she' with her attire symbolising a crow covering her body.

It was the unknown which brought the most fear. And the forest witches have always been a enigma. For some reason, even higher demons like Lady Naamah didn't directly clash with them unless the matter was something crucial.

Kai felt an excitement surging from inside of him the more undead he raised. It felt good to rule the dead. It felt right. He even felt more confident and stood next to the Crow.

The Crow's breathing was even and she seemed calm, excluding the fact that she had just bathed in the blood of her intruders. But even her anger seemed to have vanished. She took a step back and send another message into Kai's head,

"Finish them off."

"What?!"

"…"

There was no more response, it was only her yellow and demonic eyes staring at Kai to make a move.

"Are we… good now?" Kai asked. Yet, there was still no response.

Kai took a look at his undead and felt more confident. His undead were weak for sure, but since the material he used to make them was a lot more powerful, so were the undead. Kai felt a little afraid again. As soon as he felt a bit of fear sprout in his soul, his undead turned to look at him. They looked like they were about to turn back to attack him.

"Run, or you will die!" Kai yelled at the remaining demons. "Remember to never return!"

"Come with us, skeleton! Lady Naamah will look after you well!" yelled one of the demons. Seeing the skeleton's hesitation to kill them, they figured that the Crow must have been hurt really bad or tired. And they didn't believe the skeleton's weak undead were a problem.

Necromancers always had weak bodies, this wouldn't change even if the necromancer had an undead body. Even if they hadn't seen it before, they had heard of similar paths some necromancers took to lengthen their lives.

As unusual as it was, they could believe it. They were sure that, right now, they had an edge. And if they managed to bring the skeleton back, they would be hailed as heroes. Just to imagine that Lady Naamah would perhaps know their names brought them immense joy.

Understanding that the demons would prefer not to run but fight him made him hesitate. Even if they were called demons, they seemed to be another civilization like humans. There were many other species in this underground system.

"You will die if you don't run right now!" Kai repeated himself in a serious tone. His voice rang solemnly, yet these demons were veterans.

The demons lunged at Kai's zombies with a grin on their faces. They were now sure that this skeleton was only biding for time. They would be heroes.

As they thought, Kai hesitated and took a step back. The distance between Kai and the demons were closed in a second and he had to fight. The Crow only watched from the sidelines in silence. Kai was still unsure whether they were now on good terms, whether she'd attack later or perhaps his existence was only tolerated but nothing more. While Kai was lost in thoughts, two of his undead were already destroyed.

He felt something inside bubbling yet again. This something always felt like it was there, yet he didn't want to unleash it. He was afraid of the fact that he may enjoy the slaughter, and the battles. If he did, he would perhaps lose the last fragment of humanity inside of him.

"Rip them apart…" Kai shared a mental command with his minions.

At the side, albeit not seen behind her mask, the Crow flashed a smile.
