The somewhat skeptical otaku Markus Ekström has always thought that reincarnation is completely impossible. But he is proven wrong one night when he is killed during a trip to the store for groceries. Upon dying, he is greeted by a person who helps him with what to do now that he's dead. He gets 4 plans to choose from and chooses the 4th one, which is Reincarnation into another world! Along with another person, they spin the wheel that decides what special powerset they're going to get when reincarnating. Markus made a bet internally with all of his luck that he was going to get OP powers. Apparently, his luck wasn't worth much because he gets stuck with some best described 'Unique' powers at his disposal. Now he's forced to live in this new and foreign world with really obscure powers.

"What are you saying!? Reincarnating into another world is completely impossible, right?" I said with a serious tone to the person sitting in front of me.
"Yeah I know that, but come on have some imagination. An otaku like yourself should especially have a fantasy when it comes to stuff like this. Back on topic then, if, and emphasis on IF, you were to be reincarnated into an alternate world, what's the first thing you do?" The person, named Karl, said and gave me an arrogant smile.
I stood up and walked around my room slowly while thinking. I stopped by my bookshelf and picked up volume 1 of the series
'Oh, how the hell did this happen? I somehow got hit by a truck and reincarnated into an alternate world. Luckily, I managed to get some really OP powers and somehow got a major charisma boost because I used to be a lonely Otaku.'
"Despite the title, this series really is a staple of the genre. I think I would do the same thing that the protagonist decided to do, use the powers one got to run an organized crime syndicate. Because, why not? An alternative is to simply acquire a harem and live out one's days peacefully." I said while flipping through the pages in search of the lewdly beautiful illustration contained in this work of art.
"Is that so? Never thought you would be that kind of guy, Markus." Karl said in a surprised manner. The look he had in his eyes seemed to contain an uncomfortable amount of enthusiasm. I closed the book and put it back on the shelf. I sat down in preparation for what Karl was going to say.
"Well for me, I would probably just start working as a mercenary. It's an easy way to earn money and with the powers you get before reincarnating, the job itself will be easy. I mean getting good powers is pretty much a given when we're talking about almost any light novel with powers. Unless we're talking about 'The Law of Ueki(n)', of course"
Karl said and continued to look at me. Immediately upon hearing what he said, I got an urge to correct him and I acted on that urge
" 'The Law of Ueki(n)' isn't a light novel, you idiot! It's not even related to what we're talking about because it's not about reincarnation. It's just a story about a guy with weird powers. Although I will agree on the comment that almost all power light novels contain a person with really strong powers."
"You really are passionate about this stuff, aren't you?" Karl commented after hearing my correction.
"Whatever, could you go home now? I have like 5 different Anime to catch up to. Sometimes it almost feels like a pain to watch so much Anime daily, but who am I to complain?" I said.
"Yeah Yeah, whatever. See you tomorrow at school."
And after that, Karl left the room and went home.
After some time had passed, my mother called out to me
"Hey, Markus! Could you go fetch some things from the store? I'm making some late dinner."
"This late!? It's 7 PM right now!" I said
"Please?" Mom asked of me
"Fine, I'll do it." I said in an unenthusiastic tone and stood up to walk.
I walked down the stairs and grabbed the 100 SEK bill my mom handed me.
…
- Darkness comes quite quickly this time of year, it's quite the contrast to the summer when the sun refuses to go down. Still, I should probably hurry up a bit if I'm going to have enough time to watch Anime. -
I took a right turn and roughly 50 meters in front of me I saw a bright green neon sign that said 'Coop'.
I walked up to the cross-walk with a feeling of unease.
- Why do I feel so uneasy? It's not because it's dark, I've been out countless times before without this feeling. So, why?-
Out of instinct, I took a quick look to the left and noticed that a huge truck was headed my way. Out of shock, I was frozen in place.
The truck only got closer and closer.
Until…
*BEEP (dakka) BEEP (dakka) BEEP*
At that moment, my body was reawakened and instantly moved out of harm's way.
- Whew, that was way closer than it had to be. I'm not an idiot who would let something like that happen in a delusional belief that I would get reincarnated into another world. -
With confident steps, I walked towards the store and entered with a feeling of self-confidence.
But what I noticed to my horror were 3 armed men.
"Hurry up with the money!" The first, blue-clothed, person said
"Wait, look! Someone entered the store!" The second, red-clothed, person said
"What!?" The third, yellow-clothed, person said.
"Aw, For fuck's sake. It's one deadly force after anothe----" I said but got some unappreciated interruption
*DAKKA*
In an instant, my body that had lived through 16 years was ended.
My lifeless body fell down to the floor with an empty *DON* sound.
The yellow-clothed idiot had apparently accidentally shot me in a state of fear and shock.
…
-Nnh, Why the hell am I still able to think? I'm pretty sure that was a clean headshot, although this time the shooter isn't gonna get extra points but probably some extra prison time. -
I was suddenly given the ability to open my eyes and when I did, I was sitting on a chair in some dark space with some soft golden light pointed from the 'floor' upwards.
I looked around the place and didn't find anything special, although there was a wooden desk next to me with a couple of stacks of paper. I was going to stand up and check out the papers but before I had the opportunity to do so, a staircase suddenly popped up to my right and on the top of it, a girl with silver hair stood.
While she walked down the staircase, I glared at her in confusion. She was wearing some sort of loose blouse and had a blue-colored halo above her head. She also had silver eyes that matched her hair in a way that exerted calmness.
When she had finished walking down the stairs, she sat down on a chair that also popped up out of nowhere.
I was the first one to say anything
"Ok… So, are you God?"
The girl almost seemed surprised at the answer and answered
"No, I'm not. My name is Oraine and I'm an employee for 'Godly Works Inc.'. FYI, the CEO is indeed God."
I continued to ask questions
"So are you a for-profit company and if so how much do you make quarterly? Do you have any competitors and what is your market share?"
Oraine leaned back in her chair and crossed her legs in an intrigued manner
"I've never had a question like that asked to me, but I shall answer. Godly Works Inc. is a non-profit organization that helps people after they're dead with a variety of things. I'll go through our services with you soon. Our biggest competitor is obviously 'Devilishly Delicious Inc.', they currently have a market share of 14%. Our market share is currently 54% so the market is currently in our majority. But there have been some other competitors coming up, like 'Straight Up Dying Gang Inc.' and 'It's Cow Time Inc.'."
I looked at Oraine in shock and interest
- Who would've thought that straight up gods would be so bad at naming companies, Like seriously? I'm being so calm right now because the fact that I still exist after dying probably hasn't really settled in yet, for obvious reasons. -
"Now could you tell me about your services?"
Oraine continued to sit still and said
"I have to say, you have to be one of the calmest people I've ever met during my meetings here. Very well, I shall go through them.
The first plan is the most popular one, Heaven. You get to ascend to heaven and live out the rest of your eternity there. It's quite popular and has a massive population.
The second plan we offer is, Resting. With this plan, you basically get to disappear and thus 'rest'. It's not very popular probably because, from what I've observed, Humans are generally very scared of just disappearing.
The third plan is, Transfer to company. Our company is constantly searching for workforce for the growing population of 'normal earth' and thus we are prepared to give you a relatively big salary of Soul Coins. Before you ask, Soul Coins are the currency of the non-alive world.
And we have our newly introduced fourth plan, Reincarnation. Lately, we have gotten some mail from our 'Magic and forever stuck in medieval times Earth'-division saying that they need some new people to come and live at their earth. Usually nerds and NEETs who spent their lives reading stories that take place in such places pick this plan. For the promotion of their project, they're providing everybody that signs up with Powers. The powers are randomly picked in 'sets' from a wheel.
Those are the plans we offer currently, please do pick one of them."
My jaw was on the floor in amazement.
- To even think that a thing so close to 'Konosuba(n)' could exist. I know that I talked shit about this being impossible earlier, but now that I have the chance I'll totally take it! -
"Hit me with that 4th plan, please."
Oraine stood up from her chair and walked up to me. She slapped me in the face. I immediately said
"I obviously didn't mean literally!"
Oraine got a surprised look on her face and said
"Whoops, my bad then.
I forgot to mention, but you need to be two people per sign up to participate. That's why most NEETs and nerds don't manage to get to the world. I don't mean that because they're lonely, it's just that someone needs to die within the minute you did and they have to pick the exact same plan for it to work.
But luckily for you, we have a person who fits those requirements! I'll teleport in her right now."
- Well, aren't I lucky? Hehe. -
In an instant, a girl was teleported into the room and she was sitting in a completely similar chair. The girl was really cute and seemed to be somewhat annoyed. She had dark black hair, brown eyes and was wearing a school uniform. The girl was also visibly Asian.
"Here she is! This girl died in China 37 seconds after your unfortunate demise and she also decided to pick this, relatively unpopular, plan! Go on, introduce yourselves!"
I took that as a cue for me to stand up and greet the girl.
I said
"My name's Markus Ekström. I died of an armed robbery."
The girl slowly took my hand and said
"The name's XueSheng Hao. Died by a car accident."
I looked at the girl in suspicion. I said
"No, it's not. You can't fool me, I had Chinese in Junior high and high school until I died. There's no way your name is 'Student Good'."
The girl looked away and said
"Looks like you're not a complete simpleton at least. Still, I'm way out of your league for you to even know my name."
A mental arrow pierced my heart as I fell back to my seat.
"Ouch, that hurt mentally, and physically for some reason. Probably because I fell back to my seat. This is exactly why I'm scared of talking to girls, immediately when I do it; I get rejected and my self-confidence goes through the floor."
Oraine awkwardly interrupted our interaction and said
"Now when you know each other a bit, it's time to spin 'the wheel of powers'!"
I turned around and faced Oraine, I said
"Doesn't matter though. Because at the end of the day, I'm still going to get to travel to an alternate world with some OP-ass powers! This is why we nerds live! Or 'die' would probably fit in better there… Either way, I'm gonna get OP"
My eyes were glued to the wheel that had been teleported in. Specifically the 'If you get this, you're pretty much set for the rest of your life' part of the wheel that had caught my eye.
