__________

The duelling tournament final eight came on 4th May. Charlus invited his friends over to watch him perform. He was excited since he was part of the top 8 students below 14 years. The only sixth years that participated were those who were born in May.

Charlus was very excited when he got onto the stage with his first opponent for the day - a fifth-year named Hugo. Charlus stood in front of Hugo and calmed down.

"Begin."

Both Hugo and Charlus waited for the other to make the first move. When he saw that neither wasn't doing anything, Charlus tested the waters with a simple rictusempra. Hugo defended it with a protego.

Charlus didn't do anything else and waited. After some time, he became impatient.

"Incendio."

Charlus aimed the spell at Hugo's feet. Hugo jumped back, but the spell hit the stage. The stage was made out of wood. The wood started burning. The burning slowly grew towards Hugo. Hugo jumped off the stage the minute he saw the fire.

"Winner - Charlus."

After announcing the winner, the referee took out his wand and stopped the fire.

"How is he the winner? He put a fire. I couldn't do anything other than get off the stage. It's your mistake for making the stage wood."

Everyone looked towards the commotion. One senior went towards them to resolve the trouble.

"Anything wrong here?" The senior asked.

Hugo expressed his dissatisfaction with Charlus' win. The senior looked at the burnt stage and laughed.

"Bravo. I never got that idea. Well done Mr Potter. You are brilliant. You deserve the win."

"What?" Hugo was not happy.

"Mr Potter used a spell to make you get off the stage. It is commendable. One must note that the stages are coated with a slightly fire-resistant carpet, so Mr Potter's spell was very powerful. However, to make sure that this loophole will not be exploited, we must change the stages to another material. Brick perhaps."

Charlus was very happy with himself and proceeded to the semi-finals. He got matched to a sixth-year named Rosa. The duel was very close.

Charlus had started off defending as he knew that he had to have a very high accuracy to hit the girl. Rosa applied a lot of pressure and used spells like Incarcerous which made him dodge instead of using a shield.

After some time, Charlus felt that Rosa was becoming slower and decided to fire a stunner as a surprise. The stunner missed Rosa and her next spell knocked him off the stage.

"Winner - Rosa."

Rosa shook Charlus' hand and left the stage. Charlus was disappointed that he lost but still okay with his result. He finished in the top 4 in the fourth and fifth years. That meant a lot to him.

Charlus went over to his friends.

"That was an amazing duel man! Well done."

His friends congratulated him on his performance. They were ready to leave but Charlus stopped them.

"Why go? We have nothing to do anyway. Why not watch the final match?"

His friends agreed and stayed back.

The other semi-finals was between Robbie and a third-year named Arthur. Arthur crushed Robbie. He had effortlessly dodged most of the spells and his final spell and went through Robbie's shield as a knife went through butter.

The final battle between Arthur and Rosa wasn't close. Rosa tried to give a fight but she wasn't able to hold on. While she didn't receive a crushing defeat like Robbie, she was defeated fairly quickly.

Charlus was very impressed by Arthur's overwhelming win. He was disappointed that he no longer had anything to do though. After the duelling tournament, he had nothing to do for the next 2 weeks.

He went along with his friends to play a mock game of Polo but he was still worried about what he had to do the next day.

When he was going to bed that day, he remembered that his seniors would have their tournament over the next week. He suddenly brightened up. He quickly went to sleep and waited for the night to pass.

Over the next few days, Charlus sat through all duels of his seniors. While some would say that he was just passing time, he wasn't. He was observing each duel and learning more about duelling with each one. While it wasn't as effective as duelling himself, he was still progressing in the right direction. He did this for the entire week.

After watching the duels on Sunday, he returned to his dorm. On his way, however, he was stopped by a group of adults.
