Chapter 22

Rowan knew as soon as Astrid fell asleep.

Her heart rate slowed down and her breath came out evenly across his chest. If his heart beat like a human’s, he imagined that it would be racing. To watch all of her walls come down and just completely relax in his arms felt far more intimate than the kiss they had just shared.

He knew that he had fallen in deep. He had never felt such contentment before. It startled him so much that he debated waking her up immediately. But she just seemed so tired. Her body was warm and cozy against his. And while his resting temperature was just a few degrees lower than normal, her touch warmed him right up.
